What will our life be like in 50 years? Although we don’t know the answer, we believe that it will be very different from the life today.     1     Here is what life will be like there.

First of all, transport should be much better. Now, our spaceships are too slow to carry lots of people to space-it takes months. However, in the future, it will take us two or three days to get to Mars by spaceship!

Secondly, human beings need food, water, and air to live. Scientists will be able to develop plants that can be grown on Mars.    2     However, can these plants give water to us? There is no answer now.

There is a problem for us. Mars pulls us much less than the Earth does. This will be dangerous because we can easily jump too high and fly slowly away into space.     3    .

4     Many people believe that robots will do most of our work, so we will have more time for our hobbies. However, life on Mars may not be better than that on Earth today.

Food will look like pills and will not be as delicious as it is today. Also, space travel will make many people feel ill.

【推荐1】A Smart Home
When you’re not at home, many worries may start to crowd your mind. Did I turn the coffee maker off? Did I lock the door? Are the kids doing their homework or watching television? With a smart home, you can quiet all of these worries.
A smart home is a home with a communication network. This network connects devices(装置), such as lights and TV sets, and allows them to be controlled from far away through electrical wiring, mobile phone communication or WiFi over the internet.
More and more people may start to consider owning a smart home, because it makes life much more convenient. It can help keep your room at a certain temperature. It can record what happens inside the home and send the video to your phone. When you are on vacation abroad, you can use a smart home controller to switch on or off the electricity when necessary. Some smart homes can receive a visitor, allowing him to come in and offering him a drink. They can even feed the cat and water the plants.
Besides, smart homes are easy to fix. Most smart home technology and devices are wireless and can be set up with a minimum of tools, using only the guiding information. When a problem appears, you can deal with it yourself without paying a professional.
However, for home-users, the smart home technology is far from perfect. It can be rather expensive to own the technology and the devices. Also, because the smart home system allow its owner to get home information from anywhere, it leaves the home easy to be attacked by hackers(黑客),who may secretly use or change the information in the system.
Now, many scientists are excited at the future of smart home technology. Imagine being able to get fashion advice from your mirror, or receive food shopping suggestions from your refrigerator. While there are others who worry that those smart devices will make people lazier and lonelier. Whatever it is, one thing is for sure---smart home technology will change the way we live and work.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,介绍了加利福尼亚公司将通过在轨道上建造一家酒店,为人们提供在太空度假的机会。并介绍了这家酒店的一些特色。

【推荐2】Can’t find any place on Earth for your next holiday? Lucky for you, Space tourism is no longer a thing of science fiction. A Californian company is going to offer you a chance to take a vacation in space by building a hotel in orbit (轨道).

The Orbital Assembly Corporation plans to build Voyager Station, a space hotel that includes rooms for tourists, in 2026, and open it in 2027. It will be able to carry up to 400 people.

The space hotel will be shaped like a large wheel, with 24 space pods (舱) around the outside of the 200-meter-wide structure. Each pod is 24 meters long and 12 meters wide. The pods will be used for restaurants, bars, gyms, rooms for tourists, laboratories for research and so on.

The company says that some pods will even be private homes that people can buy. “Finally, going to space will just be another choice for people’s vacation, just like going on a cruise, or going to Disney World,” said Tim Alatorre, senior architect (建筑师) of the space hotel. He said that the space hotel may even include a concert hall and a movie theater.

The company says that the space hotel will have gravity (重力) that is about one-sixth as strong as Earth’s. The low gravity means people can do things like jump higher, lift heavier things and enjoy sports such as basketball in a new way.
