When the AFI(American Film Institute) asked me to speak tonight, I said of course. But as George knows, I’ve actually being quite nervous about it. I do so out of immense pride in all that he has achieved. I knew there would be lots of people who could speak to George’s talent. So I thought I should say a few words about his character in real life and why he deserves to be admired.
First he is a gentleman. He is a gentleman in every sense of the word and in a way that seems so uncommonness these days and perhaps evenoutdated. Everyone who knows him will tell you that he has not forgotten his Kentucky manners that developed in his childhood. Once someone told me when filming “confessions” in Montreal(蒙特利尔), George refused to wear a warm winter jacket unless everyone got the same one even though it was 40 degrees below zero.
Second, George is brave enough to expose corruption in Sudan(苏丹), being the first one to be against the War in Iraq(伊拉克). Recently he worked for gun control movement as soon as The Parkland School Shooting happened in America.
Although George modestly says much of the success we are celebrating here tonight comes from good luck, I think it’s his great talent and character that got him here which also make him an amazing husband and father. Our house will always being filled with warmth and laughter so long as George stays at home.
I’m so proud of you, my love. Congratulations on this great honor that you’re receiving tonight. I’m proud of you but I also know that when our children find out not only what you have done but who you are, they will be so proud of you too.

In the past, this street art was not allowed. But in 2009, the city passed a law allowing street art on private buildings. In 2014, Rio de Janeiro became the first city in the world to allow graffiti (涂鸦) in places such as skate parks and the walls that surround construction sites (围绕建筑工地).
People who want to create street art in Rio de Janeiro can’t just paint any wall with any picture, though. They still have to follow some rules. And if an artist wants to create a picture on the walls of someone’s house or shop, the artist must ask the owner first. But getting permission (准许) might not be too hard.
Street art is very popular throughout the city, both with the locals and with visitors. Many tourists come to Brazil just to see it. They can even take special guided street-art tours through Rio de Janeiro. One government officer has also set up a special online street-art project. Volunteers can join the project and travel around the city, taking photos of the street art. They then upload (上传) their photos onto a street-art website, along with other information, such as the location and the artist. This means that when someone paints a new piece of art over an old picture, there is still a record of what was there before.
In some communities, street artists have set up art schools and held festivals to teach young people more about their art. Street art in Rio de Janeiro has not only made the streets more colorful and exciting, but also helped to bring communities together.

Most people may think that Pablo Picasso’s paintings (油画) are all very abstract (抽象的). In fact, the artist tried many different painting styles in his life.
Picasso studied at an art school at an early age. But he was bored with learning all the old things. When he was 18 years old, the young man joined a group of artists who tried new ideas. He wanted to try new painting styles on his own.
In 1901, a close friend of Picasso’s died. The artist was very sad. He started to paint death and hopelessness. This part of his life is known as his Blue Period (蓝色时期).
After Picasso slowly got over his sadness, he started his Rose Period, painting in warm colors, such as pink and orange.
Later, Picasso worked with the artist Georges Braque and Cubism (立体主义) came into being. In this style of art, the painters broke their subjects down into many flat (平的) shapes. They then put them back together in a “strange” way. In 1937, the famous Guernica was born. This great Cubist painting shows the town of Guernica after it was broken during World War I.
