Last night one of my Chinese friends took me to a concert of Chinese folk music. The piece which was played on the erhu especially moved me. The music was     1     beautiful, but under the beauty I sensed a strong sadness and pain. The piece had a simple name, Erquan Yingyue (Moon Reflected on     2     Spring). I looked up the history of it, and began to understand the sadness in he music.

The music was     3     by Abing, a folk musician. His mother died when he was very young. By age 17, he was known for his musical ability by     4     from his father. However, after his father died, his life grew     5    . He developed a serious illness and became blind. He performed on the street for many years. By the end of his life, he could play over 600 pieces of music. He     6     wrote many of them. It is a pity that only six pieces of music     7     were recorded for the future world to hear. Today, Abing’s Erquan Yingyue is a piece which all the great erhu     8     play and praise. It has become one of China’s national treasures.

Erhu is a kind of traditional Chinese musical instrument (乐器). There are many English     1     for erhu such as urheen and urhien. When I     2     to the sound of erhu, I fell in love with (爱上) the instrument. I was born in     3     traditional Chinese family. My grandfather     4     a fan of erhu music. When I was very young, my grandfather     5     played the erhu. Sometimes the melody (曲调) was exciting, sometimes     6    .

I decided to learn to play the erhu     7     the age of eight. At the beginning, I was interested in     8     it. But I found it difficult to play it soon. I wanted to give up. My grandfather encouraged me to hold on. Up till now, I have been playing the erhu for six years. Recently I have passed Level 9. Luckily, I can play it     9     and I’m so proud of myself. I believe I will do better     10     better.

MSF stands for Médecins Sans Frontières. It’s also known as Doctors Without Borders (无国界医生). Médecins Sans Frontières is French. This organization was     1     by some French doctors in 1971. Since then, MSF has sent trained doctors all over the world to help people who have suffered from disasters, such as wars and illness.

Every year, about 3,000 doctors and nurses       2     MSF. And over 27,000 doctors have volunteered for MSF       3    . The organization received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. All kinds of doctors can volunteer for MSF. They need to be     4     to go anywhere in the world. Most of MSF’s work is in Africa. When MSF chooses doctors for a task, they have to go for at least six months.

But why would doctors leave a     5     life and a good pay to join MSF? Some of them say the experience is a great help in their life. And they say that it’s great to give others a helping hand.

When you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they will become weak.     1     you start using them again, they     2     become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory     3     in the same way.

When someone says that he has a good     4    , he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that     5     memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.

If a friend     6     that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault(过错). But if he tells us that he has a     7     memory, many of us think that his parents may be blamed(责备), and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever     8     that some people can’t read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write but they have to remember     9    , they cannot write them down in a small notebook. They have to remember days,names,songs and stories, so their memory is being exercised the whole time.

So if you want to have a good memory, learn     10     the people: practice remembering things in a way as other people do.
