Here, I’d like to talk about our experiences about Garbage sorting (垃圾分类). In October 2016, the government chose our neighborhood to be part of a pilot (试点的) program for garbage sorting. To help the program run     1     (success), we set up a volunteer team. I am one of the     2     (volunteer). Several of us, however, questioned whether we could lead people in the building to change their habits.

We began with the usual ways. We handed out notices around the neighborhood. We also went door to door to tell people how     3     (deal) with the garbage.     4     , they made many mistakes. For example, many didn’t know wet rubbish meant food waste. Instead, they thought it meant rubbish that was wet. Some people     5     refused to sort their garbage.

As a result, we volunteers had to do lots of sorting ourselves. At the same time we went around explaining the rules. We kept     6     (talk) to those who refused to sort their garbage. We let them know we had sorted their garbage for them. It was a matter of time and patience (耐心). We believed they would     7     (final) change their mind.

We didn’t get success in changing people’s mind     8     six months later. People in my building began sorting their garbage. Some people even joined us to help us. I hope everyone knows garbage sorting is     9     (true) good for them.

A blind boy sat in front of a building.     1     was a hat and a sign near him. The sign said, “I am blind. Please help.” But only a few coins (硬币) were in the hat.

A man     2     walking by. He dropped a few coins into the hat. He then turned the sign around and wrote some words on it. He put the sign back so     3     everyone would see what he wrote. Soon more people began to give money to the blind boy and the hat soon was filled     4     coins.

Later, the man came to see how things were. The boy recognized (辨别出) his footsteps and asked, “Could you please tell me what you wrote?” The man said, “I only wrote the truth. I said what you said in     5     different way.”

What he had written was, “Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it.”

Animals are our friends, but    1    ['hju:mən] beings often kill them for meat, fur and money. What should we do to protect them?

Our    2     ['gʌvənmənt] has done something to protect animals. Under the law, we mustn’t hunt    3    kill these animals. And we mustn’t destroy their    4    (nature) living environments. On the other hand, we shouldn’t eat wild animals. We should ask more people to keep them     5    from our dinner. As a result, there will not be wild animals on sale and the hunters and killers will become    6    .Last, we should not pollute our environment so that animals can have a good living    7    [kən'dɪʃ(ə)n]. We should stop people from    8    (cut) down trees. Wild animals will lose their homes    9     (with) trees. And we’ll lose our animal friends.

All of us should do our    10    (good) to protect animals.

An elephant and a monkey were arguing.

“Look, how big and strong I am!” the elephant said.

The monkey disagreed, “Look, how fast I can run and climb! Can you?”

At last they asked a     1     (英明的) tiger, “Which is better—to be strong or to be quick?”

The tiger said, “Go     2     (通过) the river and pick the fruit on that tree for me, then I can tell.” So they went to the river, but the     3     (水) ran fast and the monkey was afraid. “Get on my back,” said the elephant proudly. “I shall     4     (搬运) you.”

Soon they crossed the river. There stood the tree. But the fruit was too high for the elephant to reach. He also tried to pull the tree down, but failed.

“Don’t worry.” The monkey climbed quickly up the tree, and picked the fruit.

Then they     5     (返回) and gave the tiger the fruit. “Which is better—to be strong or to be quick?” The tiger smiled. “Neither of you could get the fruit alone. It took both the elephant’s strength and the monkey’s quickness to get it.”

Do you know how to train dogs? Some schools     1     the US are giving students a chance to learn how to do so.

At Hutto High School in Texas, there is     2     guide dog training program. It     3     (start) two years ago. Students train dogs to help blind people. Many other schools have some similar programs in Texas.

In this program, students first learn how     4     (take) care of dogs. After several days, they can get a dog of their own and then start to train     5     (they) in different places. They can     6    (have) the dogs for one year.

Harris     7     (be) a 15-year-old girl. She joined the program about a year ago. She has kept her own guide dog for five     8     (month). She trains the dog to ignore(忽略) things like food     9     people. When she’s in class, the dog sits or lies     10     (quiet) between her feet. She spends lots of time with the dog.

Yesterday we visited a nature（自然）museum with my classmates. And I learnt a lot of amazing f    1     about man and animals. I am i    2     in some stories and fond of some animals.

Do you know how much TV you w    3     in your life? A man watches TV for about 2,900 hours. This means you sit in f    4     of a TV for 8 years. Do you know how long your hair can be if you don’t cut it? It can be 9 meters l    5    .

I don’t like camels before. But now I know they have some amazing abilities. Camels can run over 15 meters in a second and they can keep walking for days w    6     having any food or drinks.

I think we should be kind to animals. I d    7     to be an animal lover from then on. And I also want to be a scientist when I g    8     up. It will be great to study animals and do s    9       for them. Let’s work hard to make the world a b    10     place for both man and animals.
