Three Chinese astronauts (宇航员), Nie Haisheng, Liu Boming, and Tang Hongbo, who were sent into space in the Shenzhou-12 spaceship for the space station construction mission (建造任务) on June 17, landed successfully at the Dongfeng landing place on September 17, 2021.
The successful manned mission marks the second time within five years that China’s Shenzhou manned spaceships have taken Chinese astronauts to space and brought them back home safely. Spending 90 days at the space station, the Shenzhou-12 astronauts have set a new record for China’s manned space mission duration and got rich experience for future space journeys.
From building Chinese people’s “new home in space” to entering the space station and carrying out extravehicular activities twice in one space mission, and from one day of the Shenzhou-5 to 90 days of the Shenzhou-12 in space, China’s footprints in outer space show the progress of its space program and the results of people’s hard work for the program.
It is joked that the three Shenzhou-12 members returned to the earth from a business trip to space just in time for the Mid-Autumn Festival. During the Tokyo Olympic Games, the Shenzhou-12 astronauts congratulated Chinese players on their excellent performances, and the players expressed their thankfulness and wishes to the astronauts. The communication between them has become one of the most discussed subjects on the Internet.
At the same time, the sci-tech innovations behind astronauts’ wonderful life in the space station and the amazing pictures taken from space have connected China’s space program with the country’s teenagers and adults. It inspires teenagers to dream of traveling and learning about the unknown, and interests everyone in the country to set off for a beautiful future.

Seven others were so badly damaged (破坏) that their owners had to leave them, and fifteen others had broken windows or broken roofs. One person was killed, several were badly hurt and taken to hospital, and a number of other people received smaller hurt. Altogether over two hundred people were homeless after the storm.
A farmer, Mr. Tan, said that the storm began early in the morning and lasted for over an hour. “I was eating with my wife and children when we heard a loud noise,” he said, “A few minutes later our house fell down on top of us. We tried our best to climb out but then I saw that one of my children was missing. I went back inside and found him, safe but very frightened.”
Mrs. Woo Meifong said that her husband had just left for work when she felt that her house was moving. She ran outside at once with her children.
“There was no time to take anything,” she said, “A few minutes later, the roof came down.”

Artist’s strange “ears”
Photo provided by XINHUA
It looks like this man is wearing two fins(鳍)on his head. But they are not animal fins. They are made of silicon(硅).
Manel de Aguas is an artist from Spain. He put a “weather fin” in each side of his head. The first weigh 500 grams. That’s as heavy as 10 eggs. There is a microchip(微芯片)in each fin. When the weather changes, the sound inside the microchip will tell him about the temperature, humidity(湿度), and atmosphere pressure(气压), according to Oddity Central. Aguas said he wanted to make the fins because of his love of fish.
“The atmosphere sounds inside my head,” Aguas said, “It’s like being in one type of medium or another.”
When Aguas walks down the street,he often gets strange looks. “I’m used to people looking at me in the street, but the truth is that I don’t care about it at all,” he said.

More and more people are using mobile phones now. Smart phones are used as televisions, cameras, and music players. They are also used for sending e-mails or surfing the Internet. If someone talks about mobile phones, many Chinese will think of Huawei.
In China, even in the world, Huawei is a wonder (奇迹). Ren Zhengfei built up (创建) Huawei company in 1987. The company sold 58.4 million smart phones in the first season of 2019. Huawei has got the second place at the mobile market.
Now, Huawei has been the leader in 5G field. It has more than 75,000 top engineers and scientists on research. They try their best to bring digital (数码) and high technology to every person and place. It's more convenient for modern people to live in a rapid way. What a useful technology 5G is!
We are looking forward to seeing a stronger Huawei. It provides a faster and better communication way for us. It also brings “Created in China” to the world.

On Earth, we put food on a plate. Gravity (重力) holds the food down and keeps it in its place. But there is no gravity in space, so food can float away, and astronauts must eat carefully.
Sleeping is very different in space. Some astronauts like to float in the air, but most like to be in a sleeping bag. They tie the bag to a wall so that they won’t float away at night.
Exercise is very important in space. On Earth, your legs carry your body, but in space, astronauts float, so they do not use their legs often. This is very bad for their legs, so they must exercise for thirty minutes every day.
After a day’s work, astronauts relax. They may listen to music, read, watch films, play games, or talk to their friends and family on the radio. Sometimes they just enjoy floating in space.
1. Astronauts tie the sleeping bag to a wall because ______.A.that makes them sleep well | B.in that way they won’t float away |
C.they can’t fall asleep if they don’t do that | D.the sleeping bag is not safe enough |

NASA says space debris like this can travel at more than 28,000 km/h. That’s much faster than a bullet (about 3,500 km/h). Even a pea-sized piece of debris could “wipe out” a space station or kill an astronaut if he or she is doing a spacewalk, says Live Science.
Since the 1950s, humans have sent thousands of rockets and satellites into space. Many are still there, and we now face an ever-increasing risk of space junk.
In 2006, for example, National Geographic reported that a tiny piece of space junk hit the ISS, taking a chip out of a window. In June of this year, a piece of debris ran into one of the station’s robotic arms and left a hole. Scientists are trying different ways to handle the problem. One way is to use a huge net.
In 2018, the UK’s Surrey Space Center caught some space junk with a net in an experiment. It first found the debris, and then collected it with a net and a harpoon.
Another solution is to use robotic arms. ClearSpace 1, the European Space Agency’s mission (飞行任务) to clean space junk, is going to be sent into space in 2025. It will use robotic arms to catch debris. The mission plans to throw the debris into Earth’s atmosphere, where it will burn up as it falls because of intense friction.

The three astronauts’ work starts at 8:00 a. m. They will go over the whole-day work at around 8:00 p. m. with the team on the Earth. Every week, they have one day off.
Nie Haisheng, commander of the Shenzhou-12 manned mission(载人飞行任务), told China Media Group on Sunday that they spent half the day doing some cleaning. Besides that, they also have lots of activities.
“We listen to music while jogging(慢跑). We also play ping-pong and take videos,” said Liu Boming, adding that Nie also plays music.
_________ “We all call home to tell them we are safe. That makes us feel relaxed,” said Tang Hongbo. “I am very happy to call my family and feel close to them when talking to them. That helps allay(缓解)the loneliness in space a lot,” he added.
As their space trip is coming to an end, they are preparing for their return to the Earth. One thing they need to do is to dry and store the extravehicular spacesuits(舱外航天服). “They will be used in future missions,” said Nie.
“We also need to take exercise to keep healthy so that we can return to the Earth successfully and get used to the normal life on the Earth as soon as possible,” the commander said.
