文章大意:本文介绍了拜访英美人家的一些礼节。

【推荐2】For the British, the home is a private (私人的) place. It is not often seen that one would be invited to a British person’s home. It is rude to knock at a person’s door if you are not invited. If you are invited, don’t ask to see more than the downstairs (位于楼下的) that your British host (主人) invites you into. Never ask how much the house or any of the items in it costs.

To the American, most of them want their home to be a place where they can entertain (款待) and share their lives with their friends. They may be happy to give you a full tour of their houses. They may also be pleased when you show your interest and pleasure in their houses.

Both British and American people will engage in a bit of chat (聊天) before the meal. After the first mouthful, you should say how delicious the food is and ask something about it. Remember, never eat with your mouth open and make very little noise while eating. It would be nice of you to help your host in any way. Maybe offer to pour some drinks or clear up after the meal.

【推荐3】In the eyes of many Westerners,Chinese are the best hosts but the worst guests in the world. This is probably because the guest-host relationship in China is much different from that in some Western countries.

In China, guests are almost like gods.Whenever I enter a Chinese person's home, there is always fruit on the table for me,and someone is quick to bring me a cup of tea or water. In the West, things are different.Acting according to the host's way of doing things is usual behavior for a guest.

And there are lots of things Westerners find difficult to adapt to.For example,my mother-in-law doesn't smoke,so when I see some of her guests smoking in her house,I as a non-smoker,would feel unhappy.Usually I want to stop them directly. But I must realize that,to be a good host in China, she mustn't do that. However,in most North America homes, you should not smoke. If you really want to smoke, you could ask,“Is it OK if I smoke?”But don't be surprised if you get a “no”.In our culture,it's not considered rude at all.

In China, you probably won't need to change the guest-host relationship very much because you will probably only be the host, and Chinese are naturally very good hosts. But if Western hosts invite you to their house, try not to be too surprised if their style of treating you is not what you have expected.

1. Many Westerns think Chinese are the worst guests because .

C.there are cultural differencesD.Chinese are heavy smokers
2. If the writer's guests want to smoke in his house,he will probably say “
A.It's OK.Go ahead.B.Would you like a cigarette?
C.Smoking is a bad habit.D.Sorry,please don't smoke here.
3. In the passage, the underlined phrase “adapt to” probably means “ ”.
A.think back toB.get used to
C.look forward toD.keep close to
4. When it comes to the guest-host relationship, the writer thinks .

B.hosts must do things in the guests' way
C.Western hosts are always nice to guests
D.people should understand cultural differences
