Our family went to the Yellow Stone National Park last summer vacation. Our son, Tom, wanted to see bears there. And what an experience (经历) it was!
When we got there, we put up our tent and went to explore(探险). As we returned, we heard our daughter Susie cry out. And then we saw a bear go into our camp.
Tom wanted his father to chase(追赶,驱赶) him away. His father said, “No, it’s dangerous to chase a bear. And don’t let him chase you.”
Susie said, “What should we do? Maybe we should climb a tree.”
Tom said, “No, we have to get him out of there. He might go to sleep in our tent.”
“Maybe we could make him leave if we put some honey outside for him to eat.” Susie suggested(建议).
Then I said, “How are you going to get the honey? It’s in the tent.”
We watched the bear go into the tent and heard him upset(翻倒,弄翻) everything inside. “It’s foolish of us to try to chase him away.” said my husband, “Leave him alone and wait for him to come out.” we waited, but the bear stayed inside. We had to sleep in the car that night.

“Can’t we go to the meadow?” he asked softly. “No, you can’t go now,” his mother answered.

“You’ll find out all about it later when you’re older,” his mother replied. “But,” Bambi asked again, “why don’t you tell me now?”
“Later,” his mother repeated, “you’re nothing but a baby,”she went on in a soft voice, “and we don’t talk about these things to children.” She thought about it carefully and said. “Go to the meadow at this time of day. I don’t even like to think of it. Why, it’s in the daytime now. The sun is shining brightly in the sky.”
“But it was in the daytime when we went to the meadow before,” Bambi said. “That’s different,”his mother said, “it was early in the morning.”
“Can we only go there early in the morning?” Bambi was very curious. He always liked asking questions and wanted to know about everything.
His mother smiled. “Only in the early morning or late evening,” she said, “or at night.”

One dollar a week
The doorway of the house where Chandler has a room. He is dressed in his best clothes, ready for his evening out. He is going out as his friend, Jeff White, comes in.
WHITE What are you doing this evening, Towers?
CHANDLER (Smiling) Tonight I'm going to live like a man with a million dollars!
WHITE What are you talking about? You haven't got a million dollars!
CHANDLER How much money are you and I paid each week, Jeff?
WHITE Eighteen dollars. Why?
CHANDLER And how much of that eighteen dollars do you spend each week?
WHITE All of it, of course.
CHANDLER Well, I don't. Each week I save one dollar out of my eighteen. Then, every ten weeks, I can buy myself an evening to remember.
WHITE What do you do?
CHANDLER I put on my finest clothes, go to one of the best restaurants in New York, eat the most expensive food on the menu, drink the best wine, and then take a taxi home!
WHITE (Surprising) Why?
CHANDLER Why? Because it makes me feel wonderful to sit with some of the richest people in America, and to make them think that I'm rich, too.
WHITE You're crazy!
CHANDLER (Laughing) Perhaps I am!
Mrs Black comes in.
MRS BLACK Ah, Mr Chandler. I wanted to see you.
CHANDLER Good evening, Mrs Black. What a lovely evening!
MRS BLACK Lovely evening perhaps, but you haven't paid me for your room this month. When am I going to get the money?
CHANDLER Soon, Mrs. Black. Very soon.
Mrs Black looks at Chandler’s clothes.
MRS BLACK You can spend money on expensive clothes, but you can't pay for your room. Is that right?
CHANDLER (Hurrying away) Good night, Mrs Black!

A few weeks ago, my school’s ninth grade class went on a trip to the Black Country in England, UK, to learn about geography and history. Many believe the name comes from the 1760s because of the smoke put out by factories at that time. There is also a 1-meter-thick coal seam (煤层) close to the ground’s surface in Black Country.
The aim of this trip was to prepare us for a geography project about rivers. We also learned more about the history of England during the Industrial Revolution (革命). On the first day of our trip, we went to Carding Mill Valley near Birmingham and learned about the changes that could happen to a river as it flowed downstream (下游). Our teacher had given us a few lessons on how rivers worked before the trip, so we were well-prepared for the project we had to do.
The next day, we went to the famous Black Museum where we learned about coal mining (开采) and the lives of the people who lived during the Industrial Revolution. The highlight of the day was when we visited a coal mine and watched a skilled man make iron chain.
The trip was truly satisfying. I like how we got the chance to experience what we learned in class and practice it in real life. It was a useful way to get us more interested in what we were learning about. It also showed us the importance of the journey while learning something new.
