Hi, I’m Toby from Happy School. This is a photo of my school. Walking into the school gate, you can see the classroom building in front of you. It’s where we have lessons. Near the gate, on the left is the office building. Our teachers’ office is in the building. The playground is behind the office building, in front of the sports hall. We play sports there in the PE class and after school. The library is on the right of the classroom building. There are five reading rooms for students and two for teachers. You can also borrow books. The building in front of the library, on the right of the school gate is for science. There are ten labs in this building.

2 . Is your father too busy every day? Does he have no time to play with you? If so, an “hourly dad” can help you.

In America, parents can hire(雇用) a man to act as their children’s father. The “hourly dad” takes a child to and from school and plays games with the child. He also helps the child with his or her homework. But he doesn’t need to eat with the family. People pay the “hourly dad” by the hour.

People like “hourly dads” because many parents have a lot of work and they don’t have time to be with their children. Or children from single-parent(单亲) families need someone like a father.

3 . In ancient China, people have three names: family name, given name, and courtesy name.

Take the famous poet Li Bai as an example. His family name is Li, his given name is Bai, and his courtesy name is Taibai.

People use their given names when they are with their family or friends. And your elders like your grandparents and parents call your given name at home. But in the workplace, people use their courtesy names.

Men usually get their courtesy names when they are 20 years old. Women usually get their courtesy names after they get married.

People’s courtesy names have something to do with their given names. For example, Zhuge Liang’s given name is Liang. It means “bright”. His courtesy name is Kongming. And the meaning is “very bright”.

Welcome to life in the future! You get up in the morning and look into the mirror. You’ve had a new treatment, so you look like a 30-year-old man. And many people at your age can live to be 120 now, so at 60, you’re not old at all. What’s more, science finds amazing ways to keep people healthy. For example, a new technology can help cure many illnesses. And if any part of your body is unhealthy, you can “grow” a new one in a lab.

As you get dressed, you say to your shirt, ‘‘Turn red.” It becomes red. In 2045, you can wear “smart” clothes.

On the way to the kitchen, you want to call a friend. Your phone is by the window because it gets its energy from the sun. But you don’t need to pick up the phone. You can just touch your jacket to make the call.

It’s breakfast time. You reach for the milk, but a voice says, “Don’t drink that!” Your fridge knows the milk is not fresh, and tells the supermarket to replace it. Ten minutes later, you get the new one.

As you leave for work, the lights turn off by themselves. Your home goes into “sleep” to save energy. In 2045, cars drive themselves, so you just tell your driverless car where you want to go.

Will all this come true? Maybe the future is much closer than we think.

8 . In some science fiction (科幻) movies, people in the future have their own robots. These robots are like humans (人类). They help with the housework and do difficult and heavy jobs.

Some scientists think that there will be such robots in the future. But they say it may take hundreds of years. Scientists are now trying to make robots look like people and do the same things as us. Japanese companies have already made robots walk and dance.

James White thinks that it will be difficult for a robot to do the same things as a person. But other scientists don’t think so. They think robots can do the same thing as us in 50 years.

Robot scientists are trying to make robots look like not only people but also animals. For example, there are already robots working in factories. They do easy jobs over and over again. People would not like to do such jobs and would get bored (感到无聊的). But robots will never get bored and tired.

In the future, there will be more robots everywhere, and humans will have less work to do. New robots will have many different shapes (形状). Some will look like humans, some will look like dogs, some will look like hands, and others may look like snakes. After an earthquake (地震), a snake robot could help look for people under buildings. We never know what will happen in the future!

10 . Are you looking for a special place for your holiday? How about having fun in space? Lucky for you, a US company is going to build a space hotel.

The Orbital Assembly Company will start the work in 2025, and open the hotel in 2027. It will be able to carry up to 400 people. The hotel will be shaped like London Eye, a large sky wheel with 24 space pods around it. Each pod is 24 meters long and 12 meters wide.

The company will plan everything for the tourists. The pods will be used for restaurants, bars, gyms, labs and so on. There are even private rooms that people can buy. And the company hasn’t decided the price for that yet.

The space hotel will allow you to enjoy 1/6 of the earth’s gravity. When you are there, something really fun can happen. Less gravity means you can do things like jumping higher, lifting heavier things and playing basketball in a new way.

“In future, going to space will just be another choice for holidays, just like going to Disney World.” says the CEO of the company. He says the hotel may even have a concert hall and a movie theatre.
