Welcome to the New Town School Sports Day
To all the students:
The New Town School Sports Day this year will be held on Saturday, July 15th at the City Stadium(体育场) from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be the following events.
100 meters race The high jump
400 meters race Shot put(推铅球)
1,000 meters race Discus throw(掷铁饼)
2,000 meters race The long jump
Each event will have four competitions. There will be one for girls, one for boys, one for older students and one for younger students.
If you want to take part in any of the events, you should tell Mr. Wilson. He will be in the school gym from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday next week.
All the students are required(需要) to come to the stadium on time. Teachers will put down the names at the stadium gate as students arrive. Students who don’t take part in it must bring a letter from their parents to tell why.

The 8th Inter-School Musical Show! The school is hosting the 8th Inter-School Musical Show for Grades 9-Grades 11 on December 19 at Harrington Center, Bank Road at 9: 00 am. 7 . Recently, a group of college students have translated lyrics(歌词) of over 60 Chinese songs into English in order to help foreigners better understand and enjoy local music. The team, named MelodyC2E, is made up of some students from Shanghai International Studies University who love Chinese culture, the English language and music.
Pan Jianghao and Lin Hongying are the first two members of MelodyC2E. While Pan is mainly in charge of translating and singing these songs, Lin puts them on WeChat. “We feel that many Chinese people know much about the latest English songs while most foreigners don’t know much about Chinese songs,” said Lin.
To bring out the beauty of Chinese songs and introduce them to foreigners, they posted their first song on WeChat in September 2016. Through sharing and reposting, the song received warm feedback(反馈). More students got to know the group and recognized their efforts. Together they founded a student association(社团) which now has over 70 members.
According to the team members, they are not only translating but also recreating the lyrics of each song, looking for the right expressions to make them easier understood. Now, they put a new song on WeChat every Saturday, along with its vocabulary and translations, as learning materials for other students. Some of their recreated songs have gained over tens of thousands of views on the Internet.
After their graduation, both Pan and Lin will begin new plans. MelodyC2E, however, will live on. “I hope MelodyC2E will hold onto our original aspiration (最初的愿望), which is to bring touching Chinese stories and songs to people around the world,” said Pan.

I’m Jerry. I write this letter to tell you something exciting. We had a sports meeting in our school last Friday!
At about 8: 30 am, all the students arrived at the playground. I took part in the first event (比赛项目）-the 100-metre race. Steve got first place. My classmate David took part in the long jump and Lisa took part in the high jump.
The tug-of-war (拔河比赛) between Class Three and Class One was the most interesting event in the morning. It was at 11: 00 am. And Class Three won it.
The events in the afternoon were the 400-metre-race, bicycle race, basketball game and tennis game. My classmate Maria took part in the 400-metre-race. But she fell down and could not move. Frank is the best basketball player in our school. He helped his team win the basketball game.
