1 . What is heritage? The word can be difficult to define. Heritage is always something that is passed down by families or other groups for many years.
Many parts of the natural world are also important to cultural heritage. This can include bodies of water, plant life, landforms and more. One example is the Nile River.
The intangible group includes any part of cultural heritage that you can’t feel through touch. Maybe you’ve read about forms of dance, like Flamenco dancing. You might know about the music of Mariachi Bands or holidays like Eid. These are all examples of intangible heritage.

4 . To give a tip or not? If so, how much? They can be headaches even for the most experienced tourists. This week, the main political parties in the UK have finally come to rescue by passing laws to forbid bars and restaurants taking tips from the customers.
However, not every country in the world takes the matter as seriously as the British, who are believed to have invented the custom in the 17th century — originally as a noble practice of giving small gifts to the so-called “inferior (低等的) classes”. Later, tipping has become a habit widely accepted in the world, although it is influenced by a nation’s culture and values.
A common joke among Americans is that only getting tax return is more confusing than tipping. Tips were imported into the country in the 19th century, when wealthy Americans began travelling to Europe. The custom was originally disapproved in the US. Critics accused tippers of creating a class of people who “begged for favors”. Fast forward to the 21st century and you will still find Americans debating the pros and cons. But tipping is now completely ingrained (根深蒂固的) in the national soul.
Like many Asian countries, China is largely a no-tipping culture for decades it was actually prohibited and considered illegal. To this day, it remains relatively uncommon.
Japan’s complex manner system includes tipping. It is socially acceptable on special occasions such as weddings, but on the other occasions, it can actually make the receiver feel ashamed, if not abused. Even on occasions where tips are expected, the money is expected to be sealed in special envelopes as a sign of gratitude and respect. Otherwise, it will be refused because tips are usually included in the payment for the service.
1. What’s the original purpose of tipping?A.To please the ordinary people. |
B.To praise people’s good deeds. |
C.To indicate people’s thanks to the poor. |
D.To show noble kindness to the lower class. |
A.Americans are used to giving tips. |
B.It is quite normal to tip in America. |
C.Tipping is very complex in the US. |
D.Getting tax return is simpler than tipping. |
A.Tips are totally forbidden in China. |
B.Tipping will become popular very soon. |
C.Good services should be put before tips. |
D.Tips can be accepted for special celebrations. |

5 . The concept “China chic”, or guochao, has become popular in recent years. According to relevant data, from January to July 2022, the search volume for “Guochao” as a keyword has increased by 392. 66% year on year. China chic mixes unique cultural elements with the latest trends in various industries, which not only satisfies younger consumers' needs for pursuing personality and fashion, but also plays a role in bringing back traditional culture. The rise of China chic is the result of China's rapid economic development and has some cultural motivations behind it. Besides, the continuous improvement of the consumption power of Chinese people is an important reason for the rise of China chic.
Most importantly, cultural confidence is the driving force for the rise of China chic. Five thousand years of Chinese civilization has left us a rich cultural heritage. Guochao is, in many ways, the perfect representative of the new wave of Chinese nationalism. Starting in the fashion industry, this trend shows Chinese consumers' newfound interest in Chinese cultural heritage. The guochao trend is at its strongest among young adults who live in an even more powerful China and thus have a strong feeling of national pride. China's national strength is increasing, and its soft power is also on the rise. Even so, we still have a long way to go to carry forward this China chic. But as it has become a part of people's lives, no doubt there will even be more diverse China chic products showing Chinese charm in the future.

I'm delighted to know you showed a great interest in Chinese table manners. Now I would like to share you how to behave properly when inviting to dinner.
To begin with, the host will reserve a special seat for the guest, that is highly honored on such a occasion and is expected to be the first to taste the food served. Beside, chopsticks and spoons are usually used when you are eating in China. Third, you are not supposed to make a noise while drink soup. Last but not least, remember to thank the host for the delicious food he has been offered, which will surely make him happily.
I hope my advices will be of help to you.
It was raining pretty hard on Halloween, but actually that wasn't going to stop my little sister Kate and me from trick—or—treating. We decided to start at Miss Parson's house. Miss Parson, a warm—hearted and lovely lady, was greatly loved by us kids who lived in the nearby neighborhood because she often shared her self-made cookies with us. We usually finished them in a second, happily talking and laughing, especially when we were very hungry after class. At times, when we visited her or did something for her, she always gave us some big surprises.
Kale and I wondered what kinds of treats she would offer us that day. As we walked down the street, I held an umbrella, a bag for Candy, and my sister's hand, Jack—o—Lanterns gave off soft light along the streel. Spider webs hung in all the windows. Parents who were dressed up like monsters(怪物)stood in doorways. After we had walked a few blocks, we were wet from head to toes, and I felt Kate was trembling with cold. It was cold.
There was a light on at Miss Parson's house, but there were no ghosts, goblins(小妖精),or Jack—o—Lanterns. We climbed up the steps and saw Miss Parson through a window.
She was drinking a cup of hot tea.
“Maybe she doesn't celebrate Halloween,” Kale said with a sigh, clearly very disappointed.
“Well. even if she doesn't, she usually likes it when we visit her.”I said and knocked on the door cautiously.
Miss Parson seemed to be very surprised when she opened the door and saw our dressing. “Is today Halloween?” she asked. "I completely forgot. I am so sorry!"
Miss Parson rushed us into her house.
