Gulangyu, which is also called “piano island” or “museum of global architectures”, is an island off the coast of Xiamen, southeast China’s Fujian Province. The little island     1    (think) of as a name card of Xiamen City and of Fujian Province as a whole.

Gulangyu saw rapid growth in     2    (it) culture and education in modern times, with schools, hospitals, newspaper offices and libraries     3    (build) by people from both home and abroad.

The island became a famous tourist destination in     4     late 1970s. Unfortunately, efforts to protect the local historical sites and cultural heritages (遗址) fell behind because tourists     5    (flood) to Gulangyu island. As a result, the     6    (protect) of Gulangyu became necessary.

Bagua Mansion (八卦楼), or the Eight Diagrams Mansion, was built in the early     7    (twenty) century and is one of the attractions on the island. Later on, it was badly in need of repair but there was no enough money to do it.

In 1986, the Xiamen government decided to repair the mansion. After that, Bagua Mansion became the only museum of pipe organs (管风琴), a kind of traditional instrument (乐器) in China    8     the largest of that kind in the world. The mansion, along     9    52 other historical sites, forms a whole part of Gulangyu’s multicultural heritage,     10    (make) it a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.

The worst part was when the __________ arrived: they felt really terrible because of the wind and rain. Because of the weather they had to stay another night in the small hotel with nothing to do. They finally arrived in San Antonio three days later and someone told them the weather there had been wonderful all the time!

Lake District

Holiday World

Family-run Holiday World has developed into one of the most successful regional theme parks in the US, offering unlimited free soft drinks, free parking, free sunscreen and free Wi-Fi. The park is divided into four lands, each themed around a different holiday. Understandably, given that the park is located in Santa Claus, Indiana, one of these is Christmas, with the others being Thanksgiving, Halloween and the Fourth of July.

Belonging to one of the world’s leading movie studios, Universal Studios Hollywood features attractions showing the art of movie-making. The park is divided into three main sections—the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the Upper and Lower Lots, including Jurassic Park, The Ride, Revenge of the Mummy, The Ride and Transformer, etc. Visitors can explore those sections by themselves.

SeaWorld San Diego

SeaWorld San Diego offers the chain’s standard selection of live shows interactive animal exhibits and other theme park attractions. Located on Mission Bay, it combines thrilling rides with up-close-and-personal experiences, and also offers children’s favorite performances starring sea lions, dolphins and even cats and dogs.
