1 . When first-time visitors imagine California, one of the first things that come to mind is likely the beach. California offers hundreds of beaches to choose from. To help visitors decide which coast to travel to, we have listed four beach towns California offers.
Laguna
One glance at Laguna Beach can leave the viewers amazed at its beauty. Yet there is more to it than its good looks. Laguna features more than 100 art galleries and studios, which won’t let viewers down. Summer is Laguna’s peak travel season when the majority of its yearly festivals take place. Winter will likely bring discounts, but you won’t be able to swim at the beach.
Monterey
What Monterey lacks in swimmable shorelines it makes up for in breathtaking scenery. Monterey State beach is an underrated attraction, offering 4 miles of quiet beach, where you’ll find relatively few beachgoers. Monterey’s central California location subjects it to mild temperatures during the winter, making Monterey an attractive destination year-round.
Pismo
This small beach town offers little to do other than beach activities, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It offers outdoor activities throughout the year, including surfing, kayaking, surf fishing and swimming. Don’t forget to see butterflies at Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove if you’re in town between late October and late February. The best time to visit is during the fall, which offers warm temperatures.
Pfeiffer
As an ideal place for photographers, Pfeiffer Beach impresses with its awesome surrounding cliffs and collection of rock formations. Keep in mind, though, that the beach is not safe for swimming due to its strong currents and underlying rocks. The best time to visit is from September through November when the summer tourists have returned home.

8 . Yosemite National Park has long been a place of inspiration for artists, climbers, and nature lovers.
Yosemite Falls
Repeatedly coming into view over treetops and around corners as you drive through the valley, the falls look different from every angle, and it’s impossible to take your eyes off. You don’t have to hike or even get out of your car to appreciate this waterfall, but the most complete view of the falls is from the start of the Yosemite Falls hike, along the route on the left side of the river. You can walk right to the bass of the falls with minimum effort and feel the mist sweeping over you.
Half Dome
Halt Dome is one of Yosemite’s most famous sites and particularly well-know in the climbing world for being one of the first “big climbs”. This granite icon (花岗岩雕像) looks much different depending on the angle you are viewing it from. Looking up at the sheer rock face from the valley, you can appreciate why climbers have been drawn here. The best place to view it is from the lookout at Glacier Point. From here, you get a true picture of the rock and how much higher it stands than the surrounding mountains.
EI Capitan
Popular among climbers, EI Capitan is a 3,000-footsheer rock face on the north side of Yosemite Valley. Although it may not seem like it, EI Capitan is actually 1,000 feet higher than the face of Half Dome. EI Capitan gained interest with the free solo climb of Alex Honnold in June of 2017, and the Academy Award winning documentary film, Free Solo. He became the first person to climb EI Capitan without ropes, and completely unaided.
Tunnel View
The most classic view of Yosemite Valley is from Tunnel View. This vista, which will feel very familiar to most climbers, stretches out to EI Capitan on the left, Bridalveil Fall on the right, Half Dome in the distance, and also takes in the lush valley at the base of the huge granite walls. The best time to appreciate this scene is in the afternoon, when the walls are bathed in sunlight.

9 . I was 18 years old, fit, strong and ambitious.
It was a very difficult time. I had no idea what life was going to throw at me and I was scared. By my late 30s it was advanced and I had transitioned from a walking stick to a wheelchair. I wanted to be master of my own fate, so I had to recognize my strengths and play to my weaknesses.
People with MD feel the cold. So why did I want to go to one of the most extreme, cold and inaccessible places on Earth? I’d read about Chris Cope, who wanted to go to the north pole to raise money for MD, and it had appealed to my adventurous spirit:
In the two years it had taken to organize the expedition, my muscles had worsened but we pressed on regardless. The unpleasant life coaching and cold training helped me to assess how my body would behave in extreme cold.
I had an amazing team around me, but the four different flights we took to get to the inner Arctic ice shelf were nevertheless discouraging. While we were on the ice the runway split and we had to wait for it to refreeze. Once we reached the north pole, I was bitterly cold, exhausted and a complete mess. I was on the ice for the best part of three long days, then walked the final 350m.
MD is slowly destroying my life but I have chosen to fill it with experiences and I live life to the full.
A.What I tried to do was consult the doctor about the illness. |
B.I wanted to raise awareness about the condition, but I also wanted to find out what I was capable of. |
C.One day, I fell down for no apparent reason. |
D.Of course, that made me aware of what to expect. |
E.What I wanted to make happen was a trip to the north pole. |
F.I was well aware of my disease, but I wanted to make a difference. |
G.The expedition raised £50000 for charity. |
10 . Located three hours’ drive north west of the capital, San Jose, the town of La Fortuna offers a springboard (跳板) to explore the landscape around the inactive Arenal Volcano. The smoke may have stopped a decade ago, but the volcanic energy still inspires adventure here.

It’s so picture-perfect that locals are often spotted in or around the plunge pool posing for wedding photos. Entry $18 (£13). cataratalafortuna.com
HANGING BRIDGES OF MISTICO PARK
This cleverly designed forest walk uses a combination of six suspension bridges and hairpin bends to offer continuous surprises and great access to jungle wildlife, including toucans and hummingbirds (蜂鸟).
