Located in the north-east of Italy, Venice is known     1     "The Floating City". It is made up of over 100 small islands,     2     are connected by waterways and bridges. Unfortunately, water is also putting Venice in great     3    (dangerous). Saltwater is     4     ( slow) damaging the bases of Venice's buildings. The Floating City is, in fact,sinking.

More problems     5     (cause) by floods, which usually hit the city each winter. Last week I had a holiday from work, but     1    (unfortunate) none of my friends had the same week off. I decided that I still wanted to do something, so I booked a train ride to Toronto and reserved a bed in a hostel for one week. One week by myself! Would I be bored? Quite     2     opposite! I was able to do whatever I wanted. I spent hours in museums,     3    would have seemed dull to my friends. I discovered my     4     (independent) and developed map-reading skills that I didn' t know I had. The Most Beautiful Cherry Valley

Taihu lake is located in the south of the Yangze River Delta. Among the numerous lakes on the north of the Yangze River, Taihu Lake is the largest. Here, there is a lake island famous for    1    (it)cherry blossoms. Yuantouzhu is a peninsula (半岛) extending into Taihu Lake.
