文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。讲述了Francis Kéré通过自己不断的努力,最终在建筑领域卓有建树。

3 . On March 15, 2022, Francis Kéré became the first African architect to win the Pritzker Prize, the most important award in the architecture discipline. “Can you imagine?” he exclaimed. “I was born in a little village where there was no school in Burkina Faso. And my father wanted me to learn how to read and write very simply because I could then translate or read him his letters.”

Francis was the first of his community to attend school. As there were no educational facilities in the area, at age 7 he went to live with his uncle in the nearest town. Thanks to two scholarships offered by German institutions, he was able to start studying carpentry (木匠) in 1985 and, ten years later, to start studying architecture. Although he began studying architecture at the age of 30, Francis’ career path is particularly fast. He built his first building, Gando Primary School, when he was still in college. In this project, Francis understands that his design is the result of combining basic needs, limited budgets and convincing communities to work as a team, of course, without sacrificing the beauty of architecture.

Impoverished countries (贫困国家) do not have enough influence to shape and deliver their own culture or brand to the world, but are left in the charge of what developed nations understand. For this reason Francis is aware that “The West knows how to present its culture. Everybody is dominated by the images produced in the West and, therefore, his challenge is to create a local architectural language, one of the many that African architecture can coin (创造), without falling into the stereotype of the impoverished village or violent slums (贫民窟) at polluted outskirts. ”

The first black winner of the Pritzken Prize has already receive numerous honors in his field, including the Aga Khan Award for Architecture and the Thomas Jefferson Medal. “Francis Kéré is pioneering architecture—sustainable to the earth and its inhabitants—in lands of extreme scarcity (缺乏),” said committee chair, Tom Pritzker, in a statement. “He is equally architect and servant, improving upon the lives and experiences of countless citizens in a region of the word that is at times forgotten. Through building that show beauty, modesty, boldness and invention, and by the integrity (完整性) of his architecture, Kéré gracefully upholds (维护) the mission of this prize.” The Pritzker jury (评审团), by awarding him, also rewarded a way of practicing architecture that happens in different latitudes (纬度) of the word: The adaptation of local techniques as an effective response to the climate crisis and the scarcity of resources.

1. Which year was Francis Kéré probably born in?
A.1978.B.1977.C.1955.D.1965.
2. What does the underlined word “dominated” mean in paragraph 3?

3. Which of the following is true about Francis Kéré?
A.He studied architecture for his father at the beginning.
B.The Pritzker Prize is the first prize he won.
C.He wants to break the fixed image of underdeveloped areas.
D.His first building showed modesty, boldness, without the beauty of architecture.
4. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Francis Kéré is a servant serving in his buildings to improve citizens’ life.
B.Francis Kéré likes creating and challenging things in architecture.
C.Francis Kéré’s work focuses on sustainability of the earth.
D.The mission of the Pritzker Prize is to practice architecture in response to the climate change.

文章大意:这是一篇新闻报道。文章是关于一个低碳生活的试验,讲述为了将Astypalea岛屿打造成希腊第一个无碳旅游地,大众汽车和政府合作采取的措施及其存在的问题。

4 . A butterfly-shaped island in the central Aegean hopes to become Greece’s first carbon-free tourist destination. Under a deal with the government, Volkswagen, a carmaker, has donated several new electric vehicles for use by Astypalea’s public services; it will sell others at cost price to its 1,200 year-round residents. In return, the government has offered more financial assistance for islanders to buy electric cars and will build a solar and wind-fuelled power plant to replace polluting generators.

Unlike other nearby islands, Astypalea is not connected to Greece’s electricity providers. With only 3,000 rooms for visitors in small hotels or flats, tourism is still low-key. Many residents make a living the old-fashioned way: raising goats, keeping bees and fishing. The island was selected for Volkswagen’s experiment after Nikos Komineas, the go-ahead mayor, contacted the transport ministry for help in finding an electric bus to try out on its rough roads.

Most islanders sound keen on the project. Mr Komineas expects the number of private cars on Astypalea to fall by a third over the next five years. Its residents, he says, will get around on electric minibuses, which will be free, linked to a mobile-phone app and available round the clock.

Some observers smell green washing in the project. A bid for a solar park that would generate half the island’s electricity within three years will not get under way before the tourist season ends. A single wind-fuelled engine will be set up only in 2026, assuming the licensing process goes smoothly. That is not normally the case in the Aegean, where islanders worry that tourists will go elsewhere if the view is spoiled by an engine 200 meters high. And even then, the solar and wind-fulled power unit is planned to cover only about 80% of summer demand. But it is a start.

1. Why has Volkswagen signed the deal with the government?
A.To control car prices.B.To help generate electricity.
C.To promote public transport.D.To build a zero-carbon island.
2. What makes Astypalea different from other nearby islands?
A.It has an aggressive leader.
B.It is out of the national electricity network.
C.It is a crowded tourist destination.
D.It has various goats, bees and fishes.
3. What can be inferred from the text?
A.The experiment will come to nothing.
B.There are barriers in conducting the project.
C.Green tourism will become a trend in Greece.
D.The islanders are unwilling to change their lifestyle.
4. What does the author think of the project?
A.It’s pioneering.B.It’s practical.
C.It’s destructive.D.It’s costly.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了一种全新的旅行方式——沉浸式文化旅行。

5 . Travel allows us to experience the world. But as we travel, we are also leaving our footprint on every place we visit. This is why culturally immersive (沉浸) travel is so important. Because the wrong kind of travel badly influences the world. One of the reasons we started this blog was to help others travel better and feel comfortable getting off the beaten path (常规路), communicating with locals, and take you “Beyond the traditional Bucket”, if you will.

People who only get 2-weeks off per year are often just looking for an easy destination with a beach to relax on. This isn’t travel. This is a vacation. But “immersive Travel” or "Cultural Travel" is an entirely new type of trip. It is about experiencing and protecting the various traditions around the world. It’s about being open to new experiences and willing to step into another’s shoes. Cultural travel is jumping in with both feet and leaving your idea about what your trip should be behind you. It’s eating local dishes and sleeping in guesthouses. It’s building genuine connections with locals. It’s learning about the history of a country and leaving your trip with a greater understanding of the place you came to see and the people who live there.

Often times in today’s age, “travelers” will visit a country just to snap some photos of the famous sights to post on Instagram or to drink the night away, or even just to relax on a tropical beach. But that kind of vacation can be harmful to the very communities you’re traveling to.

Beyond supporting the local communities and the protection of local customs and traditions, you’ll also experience some personal benefits through cultural travels. There’s simply no way to travel this way with a closed mind. You’ll get to know different cultures intimately and understand them a lot better. You’ll also become less judgmental (评头论足的) of others the more you travel.

1. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the first paragraph?
A.To describe the importance of cultural travel.B.To stress the harmful influence of travel.
C.To recommend a totally different type of travel.D.To express his unique feelings about cultural travel.
2. According to the author, today’s travelers tend to ______________.
A.build close connections with the locals during the travel.
B.show more interest in the history of a travel destination.
C.post the photos taken in the journey on the social media.
D.choose a tourist attraction for adventure and exploration.
3. What can be inferred about the culturally immersive travel?
A.It is concentrated on studying local people’s lifestyle.
B.Its major focus is protecting local traditions and customs.
C.Its travelers should be open-minded and understanding.
D.It is a specific way to make comments on other cultures.
4. Where is the text probably taken from?
A.A travel brochure.B.A blog post.
C.A historic magazine.D.An encyclopedia website.

8 . If you are planning on traveling, there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey.

First of all, always check and doublecheck departure (出发) time.It is surprising how few people really do this carefully.Once I arrived at the airport a few minutes after ten.My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought she had said that the plane left at 10:50.When I arrived at the airport, the person at the departure desk told   me that my flight was closed. Therefore,I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting.

The third and the last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination before you leave.I feel sorry for some of my workmates who travel in heavy suits and raincoats in May,when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester,to places like Athens,Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day.
