1 . Every new person added to the planet needs food, water, clothes, and so on.    1     Those things require extra natural resources，including land and water. But Earth’s riches are limited. Less than 1 percent of Earths water can be used for drinking and washing. One out of every thirteen people around the world does not always have enough clean water.     2    .Too many people are using too much water, especially in the already dry areas of the southwestern United States.

Food shortages(不足)are even more common. Worldwide, one out of every seven people does not get enough to eat.     3    . Over time, the soil loses its nutrients (营养）and the farmland becomes useless for growing food. As the world becomes more crowded (拥挤的）， more land is needed to make way for growing cities.    4    . That’s a problem because trees help take in a gas called carbon dioxide. Humans produce carbon dioxide by burning coal and oil. Fewer trees mean more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The buildup of carbon dioxide traps heat and pollution above Earth.

    5    , although every person uses the planet's resources. The richest billion people, Americans especially, use the most resources. They also produce the most waste.

2 . Walking down a path through some woods in Georgia, I saw a water puddle (水坑) ahead on the path. I walk around to the side of the path that wasn’t covered by water and _______. As I reached the puddle, I was suddenly attacked! Yet I did nothing for it was so _______. I stepped back and my attacker stopped attacking me. _______attacking more, he flied in the air with its graceful _______ in front of me. Had I been hurt, I wouldn’t have found it amusing but I was unhurt, it was _______ and I was laughing. After all, I was being attacked by a butterfly!

I took a step forward, and my attacker rushed me again. He pushed and _______me in the chest with his head and body over and over again with all his might. It’s just not everyday that _______ is attacked by a butterfly, so I stopped to find out the _______. My attacker moved back as well to _______ on the ground. That’s when I discovered why my ________ was charging me only moments earlier. He had a mate beside the puddle ________ he landed and she was dying.

Sitting close beside her, he opened and closed his wings as if to fan her. I could only ________ the love and courage of that butterfly in his concern for his mate, even though she was ________ dying and I was so large. He did so just to give her those extra few ________ moments of life. Now I knew why and what he was ________. I couldn’t do anything other than reward him by changing my ________ to the more difficult side of the puddle. He had truly ________ those moments to be with her, undisturbed. I cleaned the mud from my boots and left.

Since then, I’ve always tried to remember the ________ of that butterfly whenever I see huge ________ facing me. I use that butterfly’s courage as an inspiration to ________myself that good things are worth striving for.
