3 . A Georgia mom is winning praise for the way she’s teaching her children, aged 13,10 and 6, about money.
Shaketha MeGregor, a single mother in Dublin, Georgia, knew she needed a solution after frequent requests from her three kids for things like new toys and money to do things with their friends.
She came up with the unique idea to host a “job fair(就业展览会)”for her three children, Jahkeem, in seventh grade, Takeia, in fifth grade, and Serinity, in first grade. The three positions at the job fair were the kitchen manager, lead housekeeper and laundry supervisor(洗衣房主管).Children had to earn their pocket money by doing a job.
Jahkeem, Takeia and Serinity each picked the job they wanted to apply for, filled out the application and had interviews with their employer-their mom.
“My oldest and my youngest both applied for the lead housekeeper,” McGregor said.“ As to my 6-year-old daughter Serinity, I was more impressed with her application and her interview than my 13-year-old son Jahkeem.”
”I want them to be familiar with the process when they are older,“ she said. ”Whether they’re applying to a school or for a new job. they can look back and say, “I did this with Mom years ago.” As a parent you want to protect your children as much as possible, but you know that eventually they’ll have to experience it on their own and a child’s greatest lesson in life is going through the process.
MeGregor’s post on Facebook where she shared her job fair idea now has more than 200,000 likes. She said she hoped it inspired other parents to think outside of the box and let their kids’ voices be heard.“ What I’m realizing is that kids just want to be part of something. The first-hand experience is the best way to educate children,” McGregor said.

Dottie's Thanksgiving Dinner
Dottie, a puppy, knew today was special. It was Thanksgiving and everyone was getting ready for a big dinner. The doorbell kept ringing as cousins, grandparents, uncles and aunts all came to visit.
Amazing smells were coming from the kitchen. Dottie was not allowed to be in the kitchen today. Mom said that she would get in the way. Dad said she would lick (舔) everything she could reach. They were both right.
The children had been asked to keep the dog out of the way. They did, at first. However, once their cousins arrived, they forgot about Dottie and started playing with each other. The dog got closer and closer to the kitchen. Everything smelled so good! On the edge of the table was a plate filled with slices of ham (火腿) . Before she had a chance to eat it, Dad saw her.
“No! Leave that alone, Dottie! No food for you,” he said. Then he let the dog out into the yard where some family members were playing football. Dottie smiled. This was good! She liked running. She grabbed (抓住) the football from a small boy and wouldn’t give it back. He started to cry, and Dottie got in trouble.
“That's enough, Dottie,” said Uncle Bill, taking the ball away from her. “Maybe you should go back in.” He opened the door again, and the sad puppy went inside.
The puppy went into the dining room and no one was there. Dottie went under the table. The tablecloth was so long that it hung down to the ground. This was a good place for a sleep, she thought.
In the kitchen, everything was ready. Mom and Dad began carrying big bowls and plates of delicious food into the dining room. “Before we get started, we should take a family picture,” suggested Mom. Dad agreed. They went to tell everyone to go outside for a Thanksgiving photo together.
Dottie's nose woke up before she did. She came out from under the table. She looked around. The house was empty. She remembered what Dad had said. “No food for you.” He was wrong.

Many students are unwilling to do housework at home, say that they are too busy studying. However, in my opinion, students should spent some time helping with housework. Here are some reason. If we left all the housework to our parents, it will make them very much tired. For our part, being independent is really benefit. As a matter fact, the earlier we learn to be independent, the better our future will be. Doing housework can help us to learn to look after us. Now we are no long small children, but we ought to help with housework to reduce our parents’ burdens.

9 . Scientists have discovered a common household item is the perfect host for bacteria: the kitchen sponge (海绵块). According to the new research, a sponge is a better habitat for diverse bacterial communities than a laboratory petri dish.
Some bacteria prefer living with a collection of microbial species, while others prefer solitude. “Bacteria are just like people living through the pandemic — some find it difficult being set apart while others thrive (繁育),” says study co author Lingchong You, a professor of biomedical engineering at Duke, in a statement.
In their study, researchers distributed different strains of E. coli (大肠杆菌菌株) onto plates with different numbers of wells, which functioned as physical separation. The large wells allowed microbial species to mix freely, while the small wells let species keep to themselves. After 30 hours, they looked at the number and types of bacterial on each plate, which had anywhere from six to 1, 536 wells. The scientists found that a moderate level of physical separation, similar to the structure of a kitchen sponge, allowed both kinds of bacteria — those that live in groups and those that live alone — to thrive.
After the researchers ran their initial experiments, they recreated the experiment on a sponge. They found that the bacterial community growing on a kitchen sponge was more diverse than those produced in laboratory petri dishes, which are designed to host bacteria. “Sponges are not really well-suited for kitchen cleanness.” says Markus Egert, a microbiologist at Furtwangen University. “There’s hardly any sterile surface at home, but the kitchen sponge is probably the most thickly populated item at home.”
To keep bacterial growth to a minimum (最小量), Markus recommends microwaving your kitchen sponge for one to two minutes, keeping it away from raw meat, and replacing it every couple of weeks.
