文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。分析了拖延症造成的后果以及怎样克服拖延症的方法。

1 . Summer vacation is over. How many of you have burned the midnight oil to finish your homework over the last few days?     1     Or do you start working on your homework right away when you get home from school?

It can be hard to be this responsible. A lot of people often put off difficult or big tasks until they absolutely must be done.     2     Procrastination is a common problem for many people, in fact. Sometimes it just feels easier to wait until the last minute to do certain things.

3     That’s because you have to work harder and faster if you wait until there is little time left. This means your work will probably be of less quality.

I myself am a bit of a procrastinator. But most of the time, I try to finish my work earlier rather than later. It just makes more sense—if I finish my work now, I’ll have more time to relax or work on other projects later. It can be hard to encourage myself to get started sometimes.     4

Everyone procrastinates from time to time. It’s a natural thing to do.     5     After all, we still need time to relax and take a break from our busy lives. Just make sure you still get your homework done on time!

A.But once I do, the work gets done quickly and with little stress.
B.One reason we procrastinate is that we are trying to do too many things at once.
C.Do you do your homework at the last minute before you need to hand it in?
D.However, this is usually not a good thing.
E.Most of the tasks we procrastinate on seem difficult or big at first.
F.They’re called procrastinators(拖延症患者).
G.You don’t have to beat yourself up over it.

3 . As the Internet is closely linked to almost every aspect of modern life, it’s difficult to avoid having some kind of presence online.

1     It is like the evidence you might leave behind after going camping, such as remains of a campfire, your dinner scraps(碎屑), and the path you carved in the woods while hiking.

2     This footprint tends to fall into two categories, depending on whether you’re leaving an active digital footprint or a passive one. An active digital footprint is data you leave on the Internet because you intended to do so, such as emails and text messages, comments you’ve left on articles or videos, and social media posts.     3     Unintentional data can be cookies and tracking data created by web browsing activity, geolocation data generated when using maps, your IP address and so on.

In some cases, there’s a legal use of your digital footprint. Some website owners and advertisers collect information about your online habits and purchasing preferences to better accommodate your need. But the data can also be used by hackers, criminals and other malicious actors.     4     Besides, criminals can gather enough information about a person to target them for fraud.

It’s inevitable to leave some sort of digital footprint in your wake online. To reduce the risk, avoid using your primary email address when creating online accounts. Don’t overshare your personal life.     5

A.In the case of your digital footprint, the evidence you leave behind is data.
B.You can create disposable(一次性的)email addresses to avoid the risk.
C.Perhaps the biggest risk people face online is having their identity stolen.
D.Likewise, your passive digital footprint is created by your unintentional data.
E.And not giving websites the right to sell your data may also minimize the risk.
F.Increasingly, websites are adding privacy tools to restrict the use of your personal information.
G.The degree to which you leave traces of your online activities is referred to as your digital footprint.

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

When the last customer left KFC, it was already 10:30 pm. Adam, an 18-year-old college student, dragged himself home. He had been working at KFC for over a month that summer vacation.

Entering his room, Adam found his younger brother Bill sitting on the edge of his bed with an uneasy expression on his face.

“Sorry, Adam. I … I did something wrong,” Bill sprang up and said nervously.

“What is it?”

“This afternoon I sneaked (溜) out for a ride on your motorcycle and accidentally hit our neighbor Osman Brook’s car. I was so scared and I … I hurried home in panic.”

“Is the car seriously damaged?”

“The left headlight got broken.”

“It’s truly your fault and it’s really dangerous to ride a motorcycle at your age. Besides, it’s illegal,” Adam raised his voice, obviously annoyed. Hearing this, Bill lowered his head and bit his lips hard.

“Anyway, it’s no use crying over spilt milk. I will deal with it tomorrow. Now you go to bed and have a good sleep.”

The next morning when Adam got up, Bill was still sleeping soundly. Adam was more determined about what he ought to do as an elder brother.

After breakfast, Adam took out all the money he had earned and went out of the house with it. In the yard he saw his motorcycle, on whose side the scratches (划痕) were clearly visible. Adam shook his head and sighed slightly. Then he squared his shoulders and quickened his pace to Osman’s house.

When he arrived, he was welcomed by Osman’s wife Mary, who told him that Osman had gone to the garage to have his car repaired.

“I have something important to tell him. Can I wait until he comes back?” Adam requested eagerly.

“Of course. He should be home soon,” Mary invited Adam in, served him a cup of coffee and began chatting with him.

After half an hour, the door opened and in came Osman. Having said hello to each other, Osman and Adam both sat down on the sofa.
