Chinese volleyball superstar Zhu Ting has inspired a new English word. "Stay awesome and ZHUperb!" wrote a blogger at a US-based volleyball website. The word combines "Zhu" and "superb (卓越的)", to describe the 27-year-old player.

Zhu's excellent scoring performances put her among the Top 10 Global Outstanding Athletes for this year's Heracles Prize of the Big Ben Award. As the captain, Zhu "created the new golden age of women's volleyball in China", the award said. Zhu is considered a national hero by many in China, with good reason. Before this year's World Cup victory, she helped the national volleyball team win the 2015 FIVB World Cup, the 2015 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship, and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Although she's a superstar now, it hasn't been easy for Zhu to get to where she is. Born to a farming family in Henan province, Zhu earned a chance to attend a local sports school at age 13. No trip to the beach would be complete without a group of hungry gulls. But be careful, because one of those gulls may soon go after your food. “There's a very small number of very daring individuals that seem to harm the reputation of the whole species.”

Neeltje Boogert, an animal behavior researcher at the University of Exeter, studied the food-snatching habits of gulls in seaside towns in the southern U.K. and found that very few-only the bravest, would actually take the food or make that the bite.

The experiment went like this: A researcher crouched near a gull, then set out a plastic bag of French fries. For those brave gulls that then started to approach, the researcher either stared straight at the gull, as in “I see you, thief,” or simply looked away. And it turned out, staring down at the gulls made them hesitate 21 seconds on average before approaching the fries.

Gulls aren't the only ones who behave better when being watched. A 2006 study found that people paid three times as much for their drinks at an unattended honor-system coffee bar when just an image of staring eyes was displayed nearby.

As for the gulls, Boogert points out that we need to learn to live with them—because the particular species she studied is on the U.K.'s Red List of Birds of Conservation Concern.

“The thing is: people don't want to have a seaside holiday without gulls there. So it's just trying to find ways to live together with one of the only wildlife species we still have around in these coastal areas.”

“So don't turn your back on the gulls,” she says. “Both seemingly for conserving the species and, of course, actually—for conserving your lunch.”

12. What does the author want to say about gulls in Paragraph l?
A.People go to the beach mainly for the gulls.B.People think highly of gulls' courage.
C.Gulls have a bad reputation for wasting food.D.Gulls sometimes steal food from beach goers.
13. What is the research method used by Dr. Boogert and her team?
A.Doing experimentsB.Completing questionnaires.
C.Referring to documents.D.Making interviews.
14. What does the underlined word “unattended” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Not being loved.B.Not being involved.
C.Not being watched.D.Not being needed.
15. What does Dr. Boogert mean in the last paragraph?
A.British people are fond of gulls.B.British people care little about gulls.
C.British people should protect gulls.D.British people should be warned of gulls.

Are you often getting angry? Do you often feel gloomy and down in your life? If the answer is “yes”, then maybe you have a Type D personality.

People with a Type D personality usually lack confidence and have a great fear of disapproval (反对).This stops them from opening up to others.    16    The right thing is that they might be interested in people but afraid of communicating with them, because they don’t want to be turned down by others.

Additionally, bad feelings such as worry, stress, depression (抑郁) and anger visit Type D people more often.A small event that is usually overlooked by others can upset them a lot, or even ruin their moods.

17    The first thing you must understand about personality types is that they have nothing to do with genes (基因).Having a Type D personality doesn’t mean that you can’t change it.Learn to control your emotions, overcome the fear of disapproval and learn to express your feelings to others.

Or, are you a Type A, B or C person? The personality theory describes Type A people as outgoing, energetic and organized.     18    .They set deadlines (截止日期) and achieve them strictly. They also hate delays of any kind.“I’m late.I’m late!” could be their pet phrase. For their attention on time, people with a Type A personality also tend to feel anxious and over-stressed.

Different from Type A group, people with a Type B personality are laid-back.They have the ability to relax and enjoy small achievements. They seldom get stressed or depressed. However, individuals with such a personality have their weakness.     19

To be brief, people with a Type C personality are perfectionists (完美主义者).They tend to take their time and check their work over and over again.Time is not that important to Type C people.     20    Because of their focus on details, they like to get to the bottom of things, and are often asking “why” or “how” something works.

A.What really matters is the detail.
B.What can you do with such a personality?
C.There is a misunderstanding of personality.
D.Time is of the utmost importance to them.
E.They are often the last ones to complete their work or study.
F.They spend a small portion of their time doing something to relax.
G.But thinking that Type D people lack social interests is not correct.
