China showed the official mascots on Tuesday for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympic Games. 5,816 designs were received from 35 countries, and were discussed and selected by Chinese and international experts for about 84 days.

One of the mascots is a panda whose name is “Bing Dwen Dwen” in Chinese. Bing means “ice” in Chinese, while Dwen Dwen means “health” — the quality of pandas. The bright circle around the mascot’s face means ice and snow tracks. The oval is one of two new competition places in downtown Beijing.

The other mascot is “Shuey Rhon Rhon”, as “snow” and “forbearance” can stand for their Chinese meanings. It shows the feeling that is warmth, friendship and the refreshment of disabled athletes.

The color of red is a perfect fit for the event, especially as the Games will meet China’s Lunar New Y ear celebration in February and March.

China’s winter this year may be less cold and snowy, according to a weather report on Thursday that said temperatures across the country would be higher than the past winters.

According to the National Meteorological Center, the cold air will be generally mild over the next week, leading to temperatures 8°C to 12°C higher than the same period in the past years. Areas south of the Yangtze River that have already entered winter may even experience autumn temperatures under the abnormally warm weather pattern next week.

The report said that the maximum temperature in many cities in the south will be above 25°C. The film, which has got 600 million yuan in only three days, is Ne Zha. For most Chinese born in the 1980s, their knowledge of Ne Zha comes from the ancient novel Fengshen Yanyi, as well as the 1986 TV series The Journey to the West and the 1990 hit drama Fengshen Bang.
