1 . Because of the COVID-19, many people had to stay at home. Some people made bread, some played computer games and some read. What about 17-year-old Mariella Satow? She not only learned American Sign Language (ASL), but also created an app (应用). Thanks to the app, now deaf Disney fans can enjoy Disney movies fully.
Mariella started learning ASL in 2020. She wanted to use TV shows as learning materials (材料), but she found that few of them offered on-screen sign language. After further research, she discovered that deaf people especially deaf children, were not able to fully enjoy movies. Then she decided to change it. Using the money she made from dog-walking, she worked with ASL experts and a deaf community near her neighborhood to create SignUp.
Users can download (下载) the free app by searching “SignUp” from the online software (软件) store. Since it came out, a great many people have visited the website (网站). Many parents of deaf children have used it and shared their love of the app. Teachers have also used it in their classrooms. It made teaching easier than before.
SignUp is a big deal for kids who can’t read or who have other problems with traditional captions (字幕), or who maybe just prefer signing. It is really a wonderful invention. Thank you, Mariella!

7 . What will our life be like in 50 years? No one knows the answer exactly (确切地), but we are sure that it will be very different from the life today. My brother Jill White makes some predictions. Here are some of his ideas.
First, people will have less work to do, and robots will do most work. People will use robots to make cars, do the housework, look after sick people and teach students. People will spend most of their time playing sports and traveling. So people will become stronger and healthier, and they will live to be about 200 years old.
Second, cars will become very small and computers will control their speed. So there will be fewer accidents on the road. Planes will be very popular, and most people would like to take them to travel.
Third, people will be able to live in the sea, on the moon or on Mars. The earth won’t be crowded or noisy. So there will be much space for people to plant trees. There will be less pollution, and the air will become much fresher.
Finally, water shortage will become one of the most serious problems. If people don’t save water now, there will be water wars in 50 years.
