文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍的是《左传》的相关信息。

1 . 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

The Zuo zhuan, generally translated as Zuo Tradition, is     1     ancient Chinese narrative (叙述) history that is considered as a commentary on the ancient Chinese chronicle (编年史), the Chunqiu—the Spring and Autumn period (770-476 BC). The Zuo zhuan focuses mainly on political, social and military     2     (event) of China’s history. It explains its historical background, and contains much rich and lively     3     (describe) of the Spring and Autumn period history and culture. The Zuo zhuan has more Chinese sayings and idioms     4     any other classical work, and its simple flowing style came to be held as a model of elegant classical Chinese. It was, for many centuries, the primary text through     5     the Chinese gained an understanding of     6     (they) ancient history.

Although the Zuo zhuan     7     (regard) as “a masterpiece of great historical narrative” for a long time, its early textual history is largely     8     (know) and its author has been widely debated. The “Zuo” of the Zuo zhuan’s title was     9     (traditional) believed to refer to one “Zuo Qiuming”—a figure of the 5th century BC thought     10     (be) a blind student of Confucius—but there is little actual evidence to support this. Modern scholars now generally believe that the Zuo zhuan was originally an independent work finished during the latter half of the 4th century BC that was later rearranged as a commentary to the Chunqiu.
