Naomi Cooke was walking with a friend and their dogs through her local park in Burnside, on Tuesday when she heard someone shout to watch out. Cooke turned and hardly had time to react before a flying disc hit her in the face with a "big bang”, leaving her right cheek swollen almost to the size of a golfball.

Two men playing disc golf at the course in Jellie Park were about 20 metres from the pair when one of them threw the disc hard, aiming for a nearby goal.

After being hit Cooke immediately went to the emergency department, where two CT scans on her face and cheek found she had escaped any broken bones. "I'm lucky it didn't hit my eye because I think I would have lost it." Cooke said.

Cooke often walks her dog at the park and said it was always busy with people playing disc golf, but it was not until after Tuesday that she became concerned about public safety there.

There were no signs about the disc golf course in the park, she said, and the area is shared with children and people walking their dogs.

“If it had hit one of the kids in the head, it could have killed them.” Cooke did not think she was the only person who had been hit before, and said there would be others who share her concerns.

Cooke planned to go to the council, saying it needed to realise how dangerous it was for the space to be shared by everyone and to provide disc golfers with a space where they can play safely. "There should be rules about how it's done, making it safe for everyone.”

A.She was struck by a golf ball.B.She was hit by a flying disc.
C.She was beaten by two men.D.She was frightened by a mad dog.

A.Cooke and her friend.B.Cooke and her dog.
C.The two disc golfers.D.The two CT scans.
6. How did Cooke feel about people playing disc golf in the park?
A.Acceptable.B.Shocked.C.Angry.D.Worried.
7. Why did Cooke plan to go to the council?
A.To get the two men in trouble.B.To call for a ban on disc golf.
C.To ask for personal protection.D.To call for safer places for disc golf.

A Singaporean company will feed airport food waste to mealworms before turning them into fish feed, aiming to cut the country's use of imported feed and offer a continuous alternative.

Blue Aqua International will partner with Dnata, an air and travel services provider, to change organic waste at Singapore's Changi Airport into insect protein for aquacultural use, according to a statement Tuesday.

The project looks to replace traditional fish and soybean meal as the main sources of protein for aquafeed. The insects will eat the food waste and change it into part of the body containing about 60 per cent protein. The dried baby worms will then be made into feed.

These mealworms can be a continuous solution to several problems. Using a small land and giving out less carbon, they turn food waste into feed and offer an alternative source of protein. Ynsect SAS, a small French business that keeps mealworms to feed fish and pets, attracted money from investors including Iron Man movie actor Robert Downey Jr. in a round of fund-raising last year.

The deal will give Singapore's farmers access to domestically produced animal feed, which is traditionally bought from abroad. The Southeast Asian nation imports more than 90 percent of its food and has set a goal to produce a third of its food locally by 2030. It also aims to achieve a general recycling rate of 70 per cent by then. Presently, less than 20 per cent of Singapore's food waste is recycled.

As part of the partnership, Dubai-based Dnata will add Blue Aqua to its list of suppliers to buy locally farmed seafood for its catering service.

8. What is the function of mealworms?
A.To cut the use of imported fish feed.B.To eat food waste and make fish feed.
C.To domestically produce animal feed.D.To replace traditional fish and soybean meal.
9. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A.The producers of the feed.B.The purpose of the project
C.The advantages of the project.D.The composition of the feed.
10. What can we infer about Singapore from Paragraph 5?
A.It is a rich country.B.It is short of self-produced food.
C.Its recycling rate is very high now.D.Its farmers don't support the deal.
11. What is the text mainly about?
A.A new way to produce fish feed.B.An introduction to a company.
C.A plan to reduce food waste.D.A deal to protect farmers.

Addiction to smartphones will result in poor sleep, according to a new study.

The study, published Tuesday in Frontiers in Psychiatry, looked at smartphone use among 1,043 students between the ages of 18 and 30 at King's College London. Researchers asked the students to complete two questionnaires on their sleep quality and smartphone use, in person and online.

Using a 10-question scale that was developed to judge smartphone addiction in children, nearly 40% of the university students qualified as "addicted" to smartphones, the study found. “Our findings are in agreement with other reported studies in young adult populations globally, which are in the range of 30-45%,” lead author Sei Yon Sohn and her co-authors wrote in the study. "Later time of use was also significantly connected with smartphone addiction, with use after 1 a.m. increasing a 3- times risk," the authors wrote.

Students who reported high use of smartphones also reported poor sleep quality, the study found. That foils in line with previous studies that have found overuse of smartphones at night to be associated with trouble falling asleep, reduced sleep duration (睡眠持续时间)and daytime tiredness. That's likely because use of smartphones close to bedtime has been shown to delay the body's normal sleep - and - wake clock.

In fact, the No. 1 rule is "no computers, cell phones, and ipads in bed and at least one hour before bed Dr. Vsevolod Polotsky, who directs sleep basic research, said in a recent interview. That's because "any LED light source from electronics (电子设备)may further hold back melatonin (褪黑激素)levels," Polotsky said. Melatonin is often referred to as a "sleep hormone," because we sleep better during the night when levels reach the top.

“This is a cross-sectional study, and it cannot lead to any firm conclusions about smartphone use as the cause of reduced sleep quality, said Bob Patton, a lecturer in clinical psychology at the University of Surrey, via email.

12. How did Sei Yon Sohn's team begin their study?
A.By publishing researching papers.B.By responding to others’ concern.
C.By collecting firsthand data.D.By turning to related experts.
13. What did the study find about sleep quality and smartphone use?
A.30-45% of the university students are addicted to smartphones.
B.High use of smartphones is related to poor sleep quality.
C.Overuse of smartphones leads to shorter sleep duration.
D.Use after 1 a.m. will result in smartphone addiction.
14. What is Polotsky's opinion on electronics ?
A.We should stop using them an hour before going to sleep.
B.LED light source from them will delay normal sleep- and- wake clock.
C.Reduced sleep quality has nothing to do with them.
D.No electronics should be used in bed at any time.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Say No to Smartphones
B.Sleep Quality Can Be Improved
C.LED Light Source Causes Great Harm
D.Smartphone Addiction Ruins Sleep

Lifestyle Habits to Reduce Stress

A little bit of stress is good, and necessary for survival, but serious or continuing stress can increase the risk for stress-related diseases, including depression, cancer and others.     16    Here's how to start making healthy changes to reduce your stress levels.

Find a hobby you enjoy

17     Anything that takes you away from day-to-day concerns is helpful for lowering stress levels. The key is to focus on what you are doing to block out the rest of what is going on.

Avoid strict dieting

If you are cutting down calories too much in order to lose your weight, you may actually be doing your body harm. Eating enough carbohydrates is important, since they encourage the brain to make serotonin, which has a calming effect in the body.     18     Doing so can cause drops in blood sugar, which can worsen stress.

Enjoy nature

Getting outside and spending some time in nature can help relieve stress, improve your mood and increase feelings of happiness and well-being.     19     Being near green spaces in particular has been associated with reduced stress, and is associated with reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Seek support and connection

20     It's through our social connections that we keep our stress levels down. If you can't be with a friend or loved one in person, a phone call or Zoom meeting can help you stay connected.

Now that you have these tips, let's get started. Pick one strategy to start with this week, and then add another one the following week. Put reminders on your calendar so you will have your own personalized week — by — week plan for fighting against stress.

A.Humans are meant to be social.
B.Playing your favorite tunes can reduce stress levels.
C.It's also important to avoid long periods without food.
D.Feeling calmer and sleeping better are some of the benefits.
E.That can mean practicing an instrument, painting or cooking.
F.Research has shown numerous health benefits from being in nature.
G.It's unbelievably important for our sense of well-being to manage stress.
