Coffee is increasingly earning scientists’ approval. Studies continue to suggest that the beverage (饮料) may have some __________ effects on health.

In the latest analysis, published in the BMJ, researchers scanned nearly 220 studies on coffee and found that__________, coffee drinkers may enjoy more health benefits than people who don’t drink the brew.

Scientists learned that people who drank coffee were 17% less likely to die early during the study period from any__________, 19% less likely to die of heart disease and 18% less likely to develop cancer, compared to people who did not drink coffee. Research group found that the strongest benefit __________ among people who drank around three cups of coffee a day.

Other studies have tried to figure out which ingredients in coffee __________ to its health benefits. The only negative health effects the review found were __________ women, who were at slightly higher risk of developing cracks in the bones if they drank more coffee. Pregnant women who drank more coffee __________ have higher rates of miscarriage, more premature births and more babies born with low birthweight than women who drank less coffee, the study found.

The findings should be reassuring for coffee drinkers, as long as they drink__________. Further studies will hopefully look deeper into the type and __________ of coffee that brings the most health benefit.

It’s no secret that non-alcoholic beer tastes much worse than regular beer, but scientists in Denmark now claim to have developed a way of making it taste just as satisfying.

What non-alcoholic beer lacks is the flavor from hops (啤酒花). When you remove the alcohol from the beer, for example by heating it up, you also kill the flavor that comes from hops. Other methods for making alcohol-free beer also lead to poor flavor because alcohol is needed for hops to pass their unique flavor to the beer.

“After years of research, we have found a way to produce monoterpenoids (单萜), which provide the flavor, and then add them to the beer at the end of the process of making beer to give back its lost flavor. No one has been able to do this before, so it’s a game changer for non-alcoholic beer,” the Danish professor added.

This method of artificially recreating the flavor of hops using monoterpenoids is currently being tested in factories producing across Denmark, and the plan is to have a plan ready for the country’s entire beer industry by the end of October.

Although non-alcoholic beer has been growing in popularity at a very rapid pace, the new thing announced by Sotirios Kampranis and his team could have major meaning for the entire beer industry and our environment. Growing hops is a very wasteful process, with one kilogram of hops requiring no less than 2.7 tons of water.

“With our method, we skip hops and the water and the transportation. This means that one kilogram of hops can be produced with more than 10,000 times less water and more than 100 times less CO₂,” Kampranis said. “When the monoterpenoids are released from yeast, we collect them and put them into the beer, giving back the taste of regular beer that so many of us know and love.” he added.

Kimchi, which tastes similar to the Chinese Pao Cai, is not only a main dish eaten at nearly every meal by Koreans, but also an important ingredient(配料)in many other Korean foods.

While the most popular variety is the spicy kimchi made of cabbage, there are more than 100 different types of kimchi made of various vegetables, like radish(小萝卜), onion or carrot. Thanks to its unique fermentation(发酵)process, kimchi is selected by the American magazine Health as one of the top five healthiest foods in the world and helps prevent the growth of cancer.

Cabbage Kimchi

Enjoyed by most Koreans, Cabbage Kimchi is made with a whole, uncut salted cabbage mixed with Korean chili powder, garlic, fish sauce(酱)and other spices.

Radish Kimchi

The basic ingredients used for creating this kimchi are the same to those used to make Cabbage Kimchi, except that the cabbage is replaced with radish. The distinct characteristics of this kimchi are that it is pleasantly hard and that it makes a noise when you chew it.

Water Kimchi

This is a less spicy kind of kimchi that uses both cabbage and radish. Using a great deal of kimchi water, it tastes sweeter than other types of kimchi due to the addition of sliced fruits such as apple and pear.

Young Radish Kimchi

Young Radish Kimchi is prepared and eaten in summer when cabbages are not yet ready for harvest. This kimchi is made using young summer radishes, mixed with Korean chili powder and green onions, giving it a unique smell and taste.

Bread, sauce, cheese and all kinds of toppings — pizza has become a favourite food around the world. But a group of New Jersey eighth-graders have bigger demands.

For an assignment in statistics class, the teacher asked students to improve a kind of food they all like. After a short discussion, they came to    28     agreement that they    29    (improve) pizza, a favourite food    30     the students. But how do you improve an already delicious product? “We decided to add everything we kids like and make    31     as crispy as possible,” said 14-year-old Matt Stephan.

The “ultimate (终极的)” pizza the students designed    32    (pack) full. The highlight of their pizza was the bacon topping and macaroni (意大利通心粉) and cheese-stuffed pretzel crust (椒盐脆饼皮).

The note then leads the students to head down to their school multi-purpose room. There, the pretzel-bacon-macaroni-and-cheese pizza    36    (wait) for them.
