A former Walmart employee(雇员) said he was fired from his job this week after defending himself against an attack in the store's parking lot. Kristopher Oswald, 30, had been working at Walmart for about seven weeks when the incident occurred. He was eating in his car during a break, when he suddenly heard the sound of a woman screaming. It appeared to be a man pushing a woman up against her car. When Oswald asked the woman if she needed help, the man suddenly attacked him with a series of blows to his head.
The man continued beating him while yelling ,“I'm going to kill you. ”Fighting back, Oswald told the Action News that he was able to gain the upper hand by holding the man down, but was unexpectedly attacked by two other men. It was then that Livingston County sheriff deputies(警官)arrived on the scene and stopped the fighting.
He was quickly fired the following day for breaking company policy “at his lunch break”. It remains unclear which policy Oswald broke,as Walmart's guidebook does not clearly forbid employees from helping individuals in clear danger or exercising self-defense in the face of bodily harm.
“We had to make a hard decision and he's no longer with the company,”a spokeswoman for Walmart told the Associated Press. “The last thing I expected was to not have a job,” Oswald told WXYZ. “I don't even know what to put on an application about all this. How do I say this ended?”Despite the negative result ,Oswald told the news station that he would do it again. “I will always do the right thing,” he said.

A drug that is used to treat serious bleeding could save thousands of lives for mothers' giving birth. A study of the drug found it reduced the risk of deaths caused by bleeding during childbirth by nearly one third. The study involved 20 ,000 women in 21 countries, mainly in Africa and Asia. The trial was carried out by London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. The drug is called tranexamic acid(凝血酸). It is low-cost and researchers said it does not cause serious side effects for mothers or babies.
The drug is used to treat mothers for serious bleeding during childbirth. Postpartum hemorrhage(产后出血) is the leading cause of maternity(产妇的)death worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.
Haleema Shakur is the project director of the trial. She says though medical conditions are improved in many countries , serious bleeding after childbirth remains a big problem in some parts of the world. “It's one of the biggest killers of mothers. In Africa and Asia, about 10 percent of women will end up with serious bleeding. ”The drug works after a mother gives birth.
Shakur said the best results were reported when the drug was given to women as soon as possible after childbirth. “The earlier you give it- so within the first three hours of giving birth- the better the effect is. ”
The next step will be to find where the drug is needed a and provide training for doctors and nurses on how to use it. During the trial, women were given the drug in a hospital. But researchers are looking for easier ways to use the drug so it can be more widely used in small clinics and rural1 areas.
