阅读理解-七选五(约260词) | 适中(0.65)

How to Deal with People Who Put You Down

It's not a good feeling when someone insults(侮辱)you.     36     You just have to learn to take care of yourself and know how to deal with it when it happens.

1.Avoid reacting immediately.

When someone puts you down, deal with it by not immediately reacting to him. Getting angry will strengthen his behavior.     37     Also,it's not good for you to act out the anger or other negative emotions. You could do or say something you will regret,or you could damage yourself with stress.

2.Understand why the person does it.

38     It is not always on purpose and may not always be meant to hurt you. Understanding what the person's motive is can help you determine how to deal with him. Sometimes people aren't really trying to be mean or hurt your feelings. They may just consider it harmless.

3.    39

The person's words are a reflection of himself, not of you. If he were a happy person,he would not spend so much time putting down other people around him. Also,he most likely does this to other people and not just you. If you let his put-downs get to you, then he wins. Don't allow what he said to make you feel bad about yourself.

4.Ask for support.

You should tell someone and ask for help if the person is putting you down all the time. Tell someone who is an authority figure like a teacher, parent,or supervisor if the person does this to you.     40     They can stand up for you when it's happening or even report what is going on.

A.Don't take it to heart.
B.Hang out with positive people.
C.Using your support systems helps in many ways.
D.These people can surely put you down every time.
E.It gives him what he wants — a response from you.
F.It can also hurt your feelings when someone puts you down.
G.People that put others down may do it for several reasons.

At the very beginning of this term, I did poorly in my English so I didn't give up because I always encouraged by both the people around me and myself. I kept practice speaking, listening, reading and writing. When I was bored, I usually amused me by reading some interesting English story and jokes or seeing English films. What's more, playing word games and singing English songs was also great ways, what at the same time was helpful in my remembering words and pronunciation. In these means, I always made myself cheer and optimistic, full of great enthusiasm for English study. Gradually, I made a progress in my English.

阅读理解-阅读单选(约280词) | 适中(0.65)

Do you still remember your favorite poem during high school or some other important periods in your life? Why is it that decades later it still stands out in your mind? Probably the main reason is that some aspect of that poem resonates (产生共鸣) with you. In the same way, you too as a school leader can touch the hearts of your teachers and students.

Poetry allows us to experience strong spiritual connections to things around us and to the past. The power that poetry has displayed over time and across cultures actually satisfies this common need of the human heart and soul.

As one of the oldest art forms, poetry has successfully connected carious parts of humanity (人性) from one generation to another. Referring to poetry, Hillyer makes a simple yet meaningful statement,” With this key mankind unlocked his heart.”

School leaders can find and make use of the value of poetry for themselves, their students and their teachers. Beyond the simple use of poetry, techniques of poetry such as repetition (重复) can be sued to take advantage of the power of language to transform communication, create meaning and culture of care and attention.

Since schools are mainly about people and relationships, school leaders, like poets, are required to inspire and encourage the human heart. The use of poetry — or even of some techniques of poetry — in school leadership not only helps to improve communication, but also serves to meet the human need for inspiration.

Fear can be fun. Many young people queue up to ride very fast and scary roller coasters(过山车), screaming but enjoying themselves, Other people like to read "goose bumps(鸡皮疙瘩)” books or watch horror movies at night, scared to death but feeling excited. Why do people like being scared?

Fear is an ancient way of surviving. Being scared makes animals, including humans escape from danger and save themselves. It is because of fear that we have lived through millions of years of evolution. Those who lacked a strong fear response were more likely to be killed, leaving the more fearful and careful to pass their genes onto the next generation.

How do scientists explain why shaking over such scary things is fun? "Some kids will go to a scary movie and love it and laugh over it, others will feel anxious and hide their faces and some won't even set foot in the cinema," said Ned Kalin, a US scientist. "Which kind of person you are depends partly on experiences you've had and partly on your genes."

What happens in the brain when something frightens you? Nerves that begin at the eyes and ears lead to a part of the brain called the amygdala, When you suddenly see a snake, for example, the amygdala makes you freeze, sweat, have a quickened heartbeat, or run very fast. However, seeing the snake also uses another part of the brain, the cortex. It analyzes the situation, and if it finds that the snake is only made of rubber it tells your heart and the rest of your body to calm down. Think of the amygdala as the engine and the cortex as the brake.

Back to the first question: Why do some people like to make themselves scared? "One reason is that we can play games with fear, find ways to reduce the scariness by looking away or thinking of something else," Kalin said. "To believe we have control over a situation gives us a feeling of power. " "Scary movies or novels are good practice to prepare young people for the real thing, Thrills such as roller coaster rides also go to the brain's pleasure centre. "

And there might be some evolutionary advantage to being able to adjust this system that is there to protect people.

A.Their cortex is better at analyzing the situations.
B.They are more likely to suffer from potential danger.

49. What is the best title of the passage?
