Toronto in Canada is one of those cities that people visit and then dream of living in. It’s large, but not too large; prosperous（繁荣的）, but not expensive. But most importantly, Toronto is very open and tolerant（宽容的）. The city, the capital of Ontario, is one of the world’s most multicultural cities.

The fact that 140 languages are spoken in the city tells a story. What’s more, 12.5 percent of the citys population is Chinese.

With all the different groups in the city, you’d expect a variety of foods to try. And, sure enough, there are many different restaurants in Toronto, from Vietnamese to Ethiopian. Many of them are are found in the Kensington Market area, where there’s also music to hear and art to see.

This multicultural background is probably one of the reasons why many people consider it a mysterious place. Speaking to BBC News, blogger Alyssa James said, “The city doesn’t give up its secrets easily. I love Toronto because I really have to love and know it.”

Toronto is a great place to explore if you want to get the most out of it. James mentioned the beaches, which are close to the city and have wonderfully clean sand and water. The good thing is that getting around in Toronto is easy, since it has a very good public transport system. It also has a reputation of being home to many talented computer geniuses. So, if you’re hoping to work in the technology industry, Toronto is a place to consider moving to.

With all this to offer, it’s not surprising that this Canadian city is an attractive destination, whether you’re going on a vacation or even looking for a home.

Nov. 21 is World Hello Day. It began back in the 1970s as part of an effort to make the world more peaceful. It was created by the United Nations just after the war between Israel and Egypt in 1973. The philosophy (理念) behind it is: Say “Hello” and stop war.

It sounds like a fine idea, but most of us know that simply saying “Hello” won’t bring about world peace. Still, on a smaller range, the simple act of saying hello to someone can make a lot of difference.

This might not be obvious. After all, it’s such a casual thing and requires so little effort. You raise your head to someone as you pass by them in the school corridor (走廊), say “Hello’ then it’s over.

Although we might not realize it, a small thing like a greeting can mean a lot to a person. Many people are lonely because they’re shy. They find it difficult to communicate with people, even though they want lo. It leads to them feeling cut off.

On this basis, maybe it’s a good idea, not just on Nov. 21, but every day, to remember to say “Hello” to as many people as we can. The stranger who hears your greeting may secretly smile in their heart. You might even make their day.

Greeting other people is the easiest way to be polite. Politeness is the way we individual humans link up with the rest of the human world outside of our circles of family and friends. Politeness is one of the aspects of culture that make us a society rather than just many individuals living in the same space.

No one said it better than the French author Joseph Joubert: “Politeness is the flower of humanity’’. A “Hello” to a stranger is a small thing, and often neglected (忽视), but through it we can make the world better for another person.

Do teenagers know how to sleep? If you’re the parent of teens, you might be laughing to yourself. That’s all they know how to do. In truth, teens might not know enough about how to sleep, when to sleep and why.    11     .

Just as we focus on our diets and exercise for health, we need to consider sleep necessary to our mental, physical and psychological health. “Good” sleep is sleep that is long enough to allow your brain to remove the side effects of daytime brain activity. Consistent bed times and wakeup times are the key to keeping our sleep cycles.    12    .

Teens are social creatures, and the most attractive social “gathering” place these days is on their digital devices.    13    . Ideally, we should avoid blue light for at least half an hour before bed. But social media and homework that requires screen time mean too many kids are powering up their devices when their bodies should be powering down for the night.

Therefore, I recommend sleep education. Otherwise, we won’t necessarily solve the health, safety and economic issues of sleepy teens.
