This is one of the most expensive hotels in Manila as it's near the international airport. My favorite thing about our stay in the hotel was the rooftop view from the top floor of the hotel where the pool was also located. The staff were also very helpful. There's a coffee shop Starbucks on the same building of the hotel and there are a couple of restaurants around the Resorts World area which are easily accessible from the hotel. This hotel turned out to be better than we had expected and it's a great value for your money.
Hyatt Regency Manila City of Dreams
8.8 Excellent
Based on 1785 reviews
Overall, we had a great stay at the Hyatt City of Dreams. There was a minor issue with our room and the Assistant Manager handled our concerns and took care of the situation. The customer service was well deserving of five stars. The rooms are new, modern. We have been to the Philippines many times and we will for sure stay here again next time we are in Manila. Amazing food, new rooms and the best customer service experience: TRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
BSA Twin Tower Ortigas
7.8 Very good

We were a group of four and we wanted to stay in any hotel in Manila for the long weekend. The suite was not that spacious but we did not really mind considering the price we paid. The room was equipped with all the basic services. Room also came with free Wi-Fi but the connection was lost at around midnight. The kitchen was also helpful as we were able to cook items we bought from the nearby supermarket. Although the room was inexpensive, the hotel charged us extra for services that I believe are free in other hotels.

Taniguchi smiles a lot while working on the Hanapepe salt land on the west side of Kauai. It is a piece of land about half a hectare in size with pools of salty water. The salt becomes crystals (晶体)as the water dries.
“The work is tiring, but for me it’s also play,” Taniguchi said with a laugh. Taniguchi’s family is one of 22 families who make salt, following a cultural and spiritual tradition. Hanapepe is one of the last remaining salt lands in Hawaii. Its salt can be traded or given away but must never be sold. Hawaiians use it in cooking, healing, and as protection.
Over the past 10 years, there have been several threats to this field. They encompass development, pollution from a neighboring airfield, damage to the sand from vehicle traffic and waste left by visitors to the nearby beach. In addition, rising sea levels and weather might stop the practice.
The process of turning sea water into salt can be slow. The season begins once the rain stops and water starts to disappear from the salt beds. Ocean water travels underground and enters the wells. Each family has their own well. As water enters the well, so do tiny, red brine shrimp. These small ocean animals give Hanapepe salt its unusual, sweet taste.
The families first clean the salt beds and line them with black clay (陶土). Then they move water from the wells into the beds. There, salt crystals form. The top level, or layer, is the whitest. It is used for table salt. The middle layer is pinkish and is used in cooking, while the bottom layer, which is a deep red color, is used in blessings.

Marlborough SPCA and the Railway Café, in Blenheim, have joined forces to help welcome pets and their people to the region with a fortnightly morning tea. They hope the morning teas will get tails and tongues wagging as well as giving advice on how to make the move smoother.
Railway Café owner Leanne Harris came up with the innovative(创新的) plan as a way to help welcome people to the area. Leanne moved to Marlborough from Auckland two years ago and said she initially struggled to find friends and feel part of the community. “Coming from Auckland I thought people would open their doors and that there would be neighbours calling round with cake. I expected people to come to me and, of course, it wasn’t like that. I did get lonely. “I hope to save newcomers having to wait as long as I did to feel part of it all. I would like to welcome them to the town.”
Free platters of sandwiches, cakes and other goodies will be on offer, for the people, while there will be special handmade yoghurt and banana treats for the dogs. The morning teas will take place in the covered area at the back of the popular café beside the railway station off Grove Rd.
Leanne said she was happy to devote both her time and effort into giving back to the community and felt the venture was a great fit with the SPCA.
“Volunteering is such an amazing thing to do and it changed things for me completely, and I met some amazing people with similar interests.”
SPCA Op Shop manager Karina Greenall, originally from the United Kingdom, said she also wanted to help. “I can give advice on how to resettle pets, the best parks to go to , where the best walks are and where the vet centers are in town.” There will be volunteering opportunities too for people where they can help out and hopefully make friends too.”

It all started on December 5, when a Las Vegas citizen named Bobby Lee noticed two funny-looking birds walking near a dustbin. The pigeons drew his attention because they were wearing tiny cowboy hats — one red and one grey — so he took out his smartphone and started filming them. Later, he uploaded the video online, where is quickly spread. The next day, everyone was talking about Las Vegas’ cowboy-hat-wearing pigeons, and Lee was getting phone calls from agencies trying to license his video.
It was only a matter of time before news outlets picked up the story and reported on the mysterious pigeon cowboys spotted around Las Vegas. The only link anyone could think of was the Wrangler National Rodeo Finals that were taking place in town at the time, but the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, which organized the event, denied any involvement.
While some netizens just found the idea cute and jumped at the opportunity to catch the pigeons on camera if they spotted them around Vegas, others expressed concern about the birds’ well-being. They even mentioned animal cruelty.
Hillman, the founder of local pigeon rescue Lofty Hopes, said that her organization was trying to track down the birds and remove their hats, but trapping them with food has proven very difficult so far. That’s because the two known cowboy-hat-wearing pigeons have become very popular around Las Vegas, and people are constantly throwing them much food.
“When you see them today, you could see some loose feathers in the glue around the hat, and it’s surely a concern,” Hillman said, adding that she believed the hats had been glued on with a strong adhesive (粘合剂).

They usually tell untruthful stories to cover up the mistakes that they have done in the past. Lying is also a way to avoid receiving punishments from parents. If parents fail to reprimand their children for making up false stories, then there is a possibility that they will continue to lie during their teenage years.
Teenagers lie because they want to be accepted by their friends. This is the main reason why they create stories that are not true just to become presentable and acceptable to other people. In some instances, teenagers tell untruthful statements to avoid criticisms from their families and friends.
As teenagers grow, lying becomes one of their habits. Their knowledge on making up untruthful stories becomes more developed. People lie in workplaces if they fail to meet the deadlines and if they fail to accomplish and do their tasks efficiently. Some of the common lies made in workplaces are getting sick and having emergencies at home. The danger involved in frequent lying is when it becomes a character. Frequent lying causes the development of the condition known to doctors as pathological lying.
Pathological lying is a mental health condition, which is associated with individuals who have the urge to tell untruthful statements. Patients suffering from it make up stories about everything and anything. These individuals pretend to meet the standards of other people who they want to please. These patients cheat other people because it gives them an unexplained pleasure. One of the best ways of treating pathological liars is to help them tell true statements and stories at all times. This may be hard for them, but as they are accustomed to it, they will start to realize that they will be more accepted by their families and other people if they stop themselves from making up false stories.

Back in 1999, a team of scientists led by Andrew Whiten showed that chimps from different parts of Africa be have very differently from one another. Some groups would get each other’s attention by tapping branches with their knuckles (指关节), while others did it by loudly tearing leaves with their teeth. The team identified 39 of these traditions that are practiced by some communities but not others — a pattern that, at the time, hadn’t been seen in any animal except humans. It was evident, the team said, that chimps have their own cultures.
It took a long time to convince unbelievers that such cultures exist, but now we have plenty of examples of animals learning local traditions from one another. However, when many scientists have come to accept the existence of animal cultures, many of those cultures might disappear. Ammie Kalan and her colleagues have shown, through years of intensive field work, that the very presence of humans has gradually reduced the diversity of chimp behavior. Where we grow, their cultures weaken. It is a bitterly ironic thing to learn on the 20th anniversary of Whiten’s classic study.
“It’s amazing to think that just 60 years ago, we knew next to nothing of the behavior of our sister species in the wild,” Whiten says. “But now, just as we are truly getting to know our primate (灵长类) cousins, the actions of humans are closing the window on all we have discovered.”
No one knows whether the destruction of chimp culture is getting worse. Obviously, conservationists need to think about saving species in a completely new way — by preserving animal traditions as well as bodies and genes. “Instead of focusing only on the conservation of genetically based beings like species, we now need to also consider culturally based ones,” says Andrew Whiten.
1. What does the author say we humans have been doing to chimps?A.Ruining their culture. | B.Accelerating their extinction. |

B.Chimps rely heavily upon their body language to communicate. |
C.Chimps behave in ways quite similar to those of human beings. |
D.Different chimp groups differ in their way of communication. |

B.Chimp behavior becomes less varied with the increase of human activity. |
C.Chimps transform their culture to quickly adapt to the changed environment. |
D.It might already be too late to prevent animal cultures from extinction. |
A.Focus entirely on culturally-based beings rather than genetically-based ones. |
B.Place more stress on animal traditions than on their physical conservation. |
C.Conserve animal species in a novel and all-round way. |

This year’s annual moustache-growing campaign in London will surpass (超过) 2014 fundraising numbers.
Last year London men grew enough facial hair to raise $ 200, 000. As of Thursday 2015 fundraising sat at $250,000 with additional money still expected to roll in.
“Well I think London is a pretty charitable community” said Lincoln McCardle president of the London chapter. “Whether it is a food drive or Movember we always step up and either meet or surpass the goal.”
As a result of last year’s success London was awarded a wrap-up gala (演出) which took place Thursday night at Jim Bob Ray’s on Richmond Street.
“Up until now the galas have been happening in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary” said McCandle. “We wanted to have a gala. I told the guys in head office in Toronto to pick a number - not to tell me - but if we hit it I want a gala in London. And we did. It is a chance to thank the people who registered, hand out a few awards and have some fun.”
This year 60 percent of the money collected in Canada will still go to cancer research with the remaining 40 percent being directed towards men’s mental health.

White at the corner of Richmond Street and Queens Avenue. For a $20 donation your prized moustache will be professionally removed. Organizers are hoping to set a Guinness World Record for the most number of shaves given in a day.
Started in Australia in 2003 the craze (热潮) found its way to Canadian men by 2007 and in the last couple of years Canada has collected more setting the pace in terms of fundraising. China’s achievements in poverty alleviation (扶贫) made the world look at China with admiration.
“For me, it is unbelievable that over 40 years, that is, over the course of one working lifetime, China has gone from one of the poorest countries in the world to one that is about to eliminate(消除) absolute poverty,” said Craig Allen, president of the US-China Business Council.
Varaprasad Sekhar Dolla, a professor of Chinese studies at India’s Jawaharlal Nehru University, also spoke highly of China’s achievements in poverty reduction. “If global poverty came down greatly in the last three or four decades, it’s partly because of the Chinese contribution to reducing poverty within its own national boundaries,” said the Indian scholar.
In the eyes of Khairy Tourk, a professor of economics with the Stuart School of Business at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, “many countries look up to China to learn from its experience.” “The Chinese experience is based on building a modern infrastructure (基础设施) and then on setting up special economic zones that would help underdeveloped countries to become more industrial,” he added.
In the government work report delivered at the opening of the annual NPC session (全国人大会议) on March 5, China promises to reduce its population of rural poor by over 10 million this year.

After a successful experiment on the island of Borneo, the botany professor Alan Baker and a group of researchers want to introduce phytomining (harvesting minerals from plants) as a better, partial substitute for traditional mining.
Phytomining, also known as agromining, means collecting metals from live plants. However, this can only be done with a group of plants known as "hyperaccumulators". There are around 700 identified types worldwide, and what makes these hyperaccumulators special is that they naturally attract and absorb minerals through their roots-metals poisonous to other plants-and then store huge, pure concentrations of these minerals in their bodies. The metals can then be extracted from the plants' sap(汁;液), oil, or sometimes even live tissue.
Baker and his colleagues see a lot of potential in phytomining. Not only can it help meet the growing global demand for metals, but is a way of undoing some of that damage to the environment by traditional mining.
One of the biggest problems with traditional mining is that it pollutes the surrounding area. Phytomining can extract metal waste, plus planting the hyperaccumulators would regrow the deforested areas caused by mining operations. Aside from this, if phytomining is able to replace part of traditional mining, then there would be fewer instances of bad mining practices like abandoned mines, which pollute the nearby waters. Also, since phytomining provides metals that are already naturally pure, there is no need to use huge amounts of energy to purify the ore(矿石).
Phytomining has its drawbacks. Harvesting plants on a large scale is expensive today, compared to traditional mining. Besides, plants can be wiped out by diseases or unexpected weather conditions.
However, there are many reasons to consider phytomining. After all, we need to make sure that our planet can keep up and sustainable practices like phytomining give us the hope that our advancement doesn't mean sacrificing Mother Earth.

Sandra Siedliecki is a Senior Scientist at the Nursing Institute of Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. She says music is a low-cost treatment. And she says scientists have done a lot of research on music’s effect on pain. Dr. Marian Good did a lot of studies looking at surgery patients and the use of music. In her studies, patients just listened to relaxing music. Dr. Good found that her surgery patients took fewer painkillers after they listened to music. Music had a good effect on short-term pain. However, chronic pain, the kind that recurs (复发) continually, changed little under the effect of music.
Dr. Linda Chian was studying something different. She was not interested in patients’ pain, but instead, their anxiety. She spent a lot of time with people who were in the hospital because their anxiety was so great that they couldn’t breathe. People with this condition often have to use breathing machines. Dr. Chian said that the machines sometimes did little to improve their condition. Sometimes they even made things worse. The patients would become more anxious. Dr. Chian let nurses tell patients that music was a good choice to make them feel better. They also placed signs near the patients’ beds—Listen to your music at least twice a day. The people who listened to music had a reduction in the amount of medication they received. In addition, their anxiety reduced by about 36 percent.
Both doctors had similar explanations why music was so helpful. Music can be a very powerful distracter in the brain when we’re listening to music that is pleasing and then it interrupts stressful thoughts.
