It's now been nine years since I sold everything and left the United States to travel the world. These are the travel tips I'd like to share to help you save money and have a great trip.
Patience is important.
Don't get mad at things you cannot control.
Wake up early to avoid crowds.
Get up and head out before sunrise to have the best attractions all to yourself. It's a magical time for photos due to the soft light and there aren't any large tourist crowds to obstruct(妨碍) your view. Also, it's usually easier to interact with locals who are getting ready for their day. Want those postcard shots?
Observe daily life around you
If you really want to get a feel for the pulse of a place, I recommend spending a few hours sitting in a park or on a busy street corner by yourself just watching day to day life happen in front of you.
Laugh at yourself sometimes
Slow down to enjoy your trip
Please don't try to visit six countries in six weeks of travel. All the good stuff happens when you really take the time to explore. I can honestly say that NONE of my best travel experiences happened within the first few days of arriving somewhere.
A.Spend more time in fewer places for maximum enjoyment. |
B.You'll learn about activities that aren't in your guidebook. |
C.Life is much too short to be angry and annoyed all the time. |
D.You will definitely look like a fool many times when traveling to new places. |
E.You may only see these places and meet these people once in your lifetime. |
F.You need to get out there before everyone else shows up. |
G.Slow down your train of thought and pay close attention to the details around you. |

Local stores often have areas where people can put small signs telling what kind of service they need or can provide. Such services include caring for children or cleaning houses.
Or, job searchers can look in the newspaper. Local newspapers have employment announcements placed by companies seeking workers.
Another popular tool for finding jobs is the Internet. For example, people in four hundred and fifty cities around the world can use the Craigslist website to buy objects, meet people or find a job. Craigslist says that it receives two million new job listings each month.
Another useful way to find a job is through a college or university. For example, students at the University of Texas in Austin can go to the Career Exploration Center to get help in finding a job. Of course, booking for a job requires knowing what kind of work you want to do. For example, there is a book called What Color Is Your Parachute? by Richard Bolles. This book has been helping people choose a career since it was first published in 1970.
Some experts also help people find jobs. Susan W. Miller owns a company called California Career Services in Los Angeles. She says her company helps people find jobs by first helping them understand their strengths, goals and interests. Then she provides them with methods and resources to help them find the right job

Be clear from the beginning.
Maybe you hate it when someone interrupts you when you are sleeping every morning. Maybe you need ten minutes to yourself before talking to anyone after you wake up.
This may seem simple, but it’s probably one of the biggest reasons why roommates experience conflicts. Don’t you think he’ll mind if you borrow his shoes for a quick soccer game? For all you know, you just stepped over an uncrossable line. Don’t borrow, use, or take anything without getting permission first.
Be open to change.
You should expect to learn and grow and change during your time at school.
Follow the Golden Rule.
A.Respect your roommate’s things. |
B.Let your roommate know about your preferences. |
C.Treat your roommate like you’d like to be treated. |
D.Living with a roommate is really a wonderful thing. |
E.Having a roommate surely has its challenges. |
F.You should correct your bad habits first. |
G.And the same should happen to your roommate, if all goes well. |

Studies have shown that opportunities are seen to be more valuable as they become less available, according to Robert Cialdini, a leading expert on influence, who said “What the scarcity principle says is that people are more attracted to rare opportunities.”
Appearing available can work against you, according to Jeremy Nicholson, a social psychologist. If you’re excited about a work opportunity, it indicates that you are in low demand.
“Making something harder to get,” Dr. Nicholson said, “tends to increase at least the perception of value.” If you are meeting with hiring managers or potential clients, Dr. Nicholson recommends that responding in a way that respects their interest without being too eager. Dr. Nicholson advises, with responses like: “I do have a couple of other projects to deal with. However, I could do this for you if you want.”
“It’s easy to become excited when an opportunity presents itself,” Ms. Ryan, founder of Human Workplace, said, “but remember that your power in any negotiation is related to your ability to walk away. Don’t accept an offer before fully considering the opportunity.” Once you have interest, turn that into diligence. Ms. Ryan recommends reading up on the organization from third-party perspectives, and checking out job-search websites to see what employees and ex-employees say about it. Keep in mind: The goal is to approach any negotiation cautiously and with a clear head.
Appearing less available isn’t about limiting our enthusiasm, but about trusting in our own self-worth so we can be proactive, experts say. This means mindfully transforming our excitement into strategy. “Emphasizing the uniqueness of your resources and your cooperative approach can help you more quickly advance your goals,” said Shirli Kopelman, a professor at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
1. Why is it necessary for us to appear scarce when we face opportunities?A.Because we should strictly follow the principle about scarcity. |

A.Being eager enough and ready. | B.Being cautious and clear-headed. |
C.Being confident and interested. | D.Being skillful and accomplished. |

One particular trip, I recall, was just a bit more memorable than the rest. What we now refer to as the snow pants incident began accidentally enough. My husband, Bernie, and our 2-year-old daughter, Faith, were building a snow fort while I sledded down a nearby slope.
On the way back up from one trip, I saw a small stone tumbling down the track I had just made. I was puzzled, since all the other rocks were buried under several feet of snow, as I stood and wondered about the stone---it jumped! This was no stone. This was a mouse.
Now, I love nature, but that doesn’t include mice. I loudly protested the invader, and Bernie, coming to my rescue, assured me that this was not a mouse but a mole, as if that mattered. A mouse or a mole I still didn’t like it.
Bernie and I stood for a few minutes watching the creature disappear from the path into the furry white and come back out again. But soon it disappeared and I headed up the hill again.
Shortly after I left, my husband screamed out, saying that the mole had gone up the leg of his snow pants. You have to understand Bernie can be quite a joker, and I smelled a rat. Not wanting to be a sucker and fall for another one of his jokes, I laughed it off. When he started running for the cabin, though, I stopped laughing and decided maybe this was for real.
“Don’t you dare take that thing into the house!” I yelled. But like a flash, Bernie was already dashing through the cabin’s front door, with his snow pants, the mole and all. If it were me, I’d have been down to my long underwear right there in the snow without a second thought.
A few minutes later Bernie appeared. We relished the rest of our winter vacation, drinking lots of hot chocolate, sitting beside the fireplace and admiring nature---from a safe distance.

Expert from Boundless Journeys, Matt Holmes, who works-on travel experiences towards conserving areas said, “As scientists and non-scientists learn more about how we human beings are impacting the planet, I think. more people want to do what they can while still exploring the world. Our guests are definitely interested in that aspect of our journeys. Travelers can farm their own food in Italy, managing their use of water and using solar or wind power. They can also visit n family-run camp that cares for retired logging elephants in Myanmar, know a park entry fee goes to a conservation organization in Costa Rica, employ and train members of the local community or partner with a protection group. There are lots of options for seeking out greener holiday.”
Most people believe that eco-travel is expensive and it is true. Matt explained “Anti-poaching patrols (巡逻) need to be paid, solar energy equipment costs a lot to install, building with environmentally friendly, materials is more expensive and so on. The extra cost is necessary, as you re paying to minimize your footprint and protect the places you visit, which is exactly what eco-travel is about.
