Door - to - door food delivery service has become increasingly popular in cities due to the fast development of e - commerce and the fast - paced life in China. As food delivery is extremely _______in China, it creates large amounts of waste due to the plastic containers, bags, and chopsticks that come with each _______ . This in turn has _______ great environmental concerns for the waste packaging materials. We have therefore estimated and predicted the volume of food delivery packaging waste in China. The _______ show that the total amount of packaging waste _______ from 0.2 million metric tons in 2015 to 1.5 million metric tons in 2017.

Over packaging is also a(n) _______ . The food delivery packaging is not the _______ , the better. Instead, it is the more environmental friendly, the better. Therefore, it is high time that regulations were _______ to stop restaurants and companies from spending too much on unnecessary packaging and wrapping. Also, smart policy suggestions should be provided to _______ the pressing issues, particularly using the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle environmental friendly practices.

As the largest city in China, Shanghai has an important role in innovating and contributing to a global ________to the problem of waste. With over 24 million people living in Shanghai, materials sustainability (可持续性), particularly that of plastics, is a great issue. ________, delivery companies like Saucepan have begun to ________ the plastic usage of the food delivery in Shanghai by using biodegradable(可降解的)packaging in the delivery process. ________, it encourages consumers to both recycle their plastic bags and stay in the business by rewarding customers for every 10 used bags that they return to the company.

The more delivery services that promote sustainability, the more suppliers will see that there is a market for environmentally - friendly products. The food delivery service plays a ________ in the creation of waste in China, and innovating in this specific context can make a big ________ in the new plastics economy.

【推荐1】China and India are Rebuilding the Green World

Over the last two decades, the Earth has seen an increase in foliage (植物) around the planet, measured in average leaf area per year on plants and trees. Data from NASA satellites (卫星) shows that China and India-two___________economies with the world’s biggest populations-are___________the increase in greening on and. The effect comes mostly from_________tree-planting programs in China and intensive agriculture (精耕细作) in both countries.

Researchers from Boston University found that global green leaf area has increased by five percent since the early 2000s, an area_________to the entire Amazon rainforest.(亚马逊热带雨林) The study was also published in the journal Nature Sustainability on February 11. It revealed that at least 25 percent of the global plant_________this century came in China.

“China and India_________one-third of the greening, but contain only nine percent of the planets land area covered in vegetation,” said lead author Chi Chen of Boston University. “That is a surprising finding, considering the general idea of land degradation (退化) in populous (人口多) countries from_________.”

China’s_________contribution to the global greening trend came in large part from programs to protect and expand forests, accounting for about 42 percent of the greening contribution. These programs were developed in an effort to _________the effects of air pollution, soil erosion and climate change.

Another 32 percent of the greening change in China, and 82 percent in India, resulted from intensive__________of food crops. The land area used to grow crops in China and India has not changed much since the early 2000s.

【推荐2】A new Duke University-led study finds that more than 200 bird species in six rapidly developing regions are at risk of extinction despite not being included on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.

The study, ______ in the peer-reviewed journal Science Advances, used remote sensing data to map recent land-use changes that are ______ suitable habitat for more than 600 bird species in the Atlantic forest of Brazil, Central America, the western Andes of Colombia, Sumatra, Madagascar and Southeast Asia. Of the 600 species, only 108 are ______ classified by the IUCN Red List as being at risk of extinction.

The new analysis, however, reveals that 210 of the species face ______ risks of extinction and 189 of them should now be classified as threatened, based on the extent and pace of habitat loss documented by recent remote sensing.

“Good as it is, the Red List assessment process dates back 25 years and does not make use of ______ in geospatial(地理空间) technologies,” said Stuart L. Pimm, Doris Duke Professor of Conservation Ecology at Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment. “We have powerful new tools at our fingertips, including vastly ______ digital maps, regular global assessments of land use changes from satellite images, and maps showing which areas of the planet are ______ by national parks.”

By not involving this type of modern geospatial data into its assessments, Pimm said, the Red List is ______ the number of species at risk and causing scientists and policymakers to overlook ______ areas for conservation.

For instance, while the Red List currently includes estimates of the size of a species’ geographical range in its assessment process, it ______ to account for how much preferred habitat remains within that range, said Natalia Ocampo-Peñuela, the new study’s lead author.

“Knowing how much of this preferred habitat remains -- and how much of it has been ______ or degraded -- is vital for accurately assessing extinction risks, especially for species that have small geographical ranges to begin with. But it’s ______ in the current Red List assessment process.”

“When these factors are accounted for, some species that are not currently considered at risk of extinction probably have ranges that are smaller than those that the Red List quite sensibly decides are at risk,” said study co-author Clinton Jenkins, who directs the biodiversity mapping site.

Added Ocampo-Peñuela, “Natural habitats in the most biodiverse places on Earth are ______, pushing species toward extinction a thousand times faster than their ______ rates. Preventing these extinctions requires ______ what species are at risk and where they live,” she said. “With better data we can make better decisions, and have a greater chance of saving species and protecting the places that matter.”
