The day began like any other on Goldshore Beach. People were walking, running or simply sitting on the sandy beach,     1     (enjoy) the warm sea air and the soft wind that brushed their hair     2     Sabrina, one of the happy     3     (tour), noticed something odd. She had just     4     (learn) about tsunamis in a Geography lesson.     5     immediately occurred to her that these were signs of     6     approaching tsunami.

Sabrina was     7     (frighten), but she soon kept her head. She warned her parents     8     the danger, though at first they just thought she was joking. However, Sabrina was certain that a terrible disaster was on its way and kept asking her parents     9     (talk) to a safety officer. To her great relief, the officer immediately realized the coming danger. The beach     10     (clear) of people rapidly, just before the huge waves crashed into the coast.

When I first arrived in China four years ago, I was just an exchange student who     1     (speak) only English. Then at the end of the year-long program, I came up     2     the idea of finishing my high school studies there. I was really attracted by Chinese language, culture and history and delighted in my new future,     3     I neglected the academic challenge of competing school in Chinese language. It     4     (consider) by many to be one of the most difficult languages to learn. Once I even received the     5    (bad) mark in my class and people around me doubted I would ever graduate. In order to avoid     6    (lose) my confidence, I worked hard and was not afraid of my mistakes     7    (correct). On the day before my final examination, I took     8     small walk near my home, I played back everything     9     was related to my school life in China and people who helped me in my head. With the encouragement and great efforts, I     10     (eventual) passed it with a good grade.

It was my first trip to India, alone. One day, as I     1    (walk) through a local market, a ten-year-old boy came over and begged me to buy a book,    2    had the words “Interesting India” on its cover. I bought it,    3    (think) that when I returned home it would remind me     4    my wonderful Indian adventure. The book claimed that India's people were very welcoming of tourists, and never tried     5    (cheat) them. As I read I felt deeply touched by these warm words.

Suddenly, a monkey came down from a nearby tree, snatched the book from my hand and took it away, along with my bag which contained all my belongings. I couldn't do anything but stand and stare. Then a man approached me and asked       6     I wanted my belongings back. He said it would cost

He blew a whistle and the monkey     8    immediate) threw the bag down. I picked it up and gave him the money. I later learned that     9    man made his living this way: tricking tourists.

This was the     10    (bad) thing I ever experienced in “Interesting India”.
