Johnson lived alone in a small town, Salem. Once he suffered a minor stroke (中风). He didn't usually go outside of his home unless it was to get his favorite food: pizza. He only ordered from Domino’s Pizza, and due to him frequently ordering, the staff was well familiar with his name.

Although Johnson was a loyal customer, the staff had never heard his voice or seen is face. It was only the delivery drivers who caught a glance of the man. Many neighbors went on to say that he just liked to keep to himself.

The manager of Johnson’s local Domino’s Pizza, Mary, said that he was always so polite to the delivery staff. Throughout the seven years of him placing orders at and supporting the particular Domino’s store, there had never been a problem.

And so none of the employees at Johnson's local Domino’s seemed to notice anything unusual the first couple of days. However, this quickly changed when Mary realized that they hadn't had an order from Johnson in a while. Johnson was considered to be one of the branch's most loyal customers. It was unusual that Johnson hadn't ordered anything for more than 12 days. They felt something might be off. A member of the staff, Tom, was sent to Johnson’s house to see if they could notice anything unusual.

As Tom approached Johnson’s house, he was relieved to see that the lights were on. Johnson wasn't answering the door, even though the lights and TV were on in his room. Tom decided to knock once again and called him on his phone, but there was no answer. There was a horrible feeling in the pit of his stomach. Tom decided to call the police. After hearing the situation, the police arrived quickly. They knocked on the door just as Tom had, but there was no answer once again. Just then one of the officers heard a faint voice coming from inside of the home.

If there's one thing I can't stand people saying,it is"I'm no good at anything,I don't have any talent".I just don't buy that at all.To me,everyone has at least one talent, and while it sometimes takes you a lifetime to find,it does exist. There was a time when I didn't believe that. What changed my mind was a seemingly small event that took place in 1953.

At that time I was a high school student.I was a funny-looking skinny boy named Eugene Orowitz, who weighed barely 100 pounds.I was a good student, but as far as I was concerned,in just about every other department I was a loser.I wanted to fit in,to be someone and do something well. But I hadn't found anything I was good at.One sunny afternoon, our gym class went out to the school's running track. The teacher taught us all various track and field events.I was a loser in all of them. Then came the javelin(标枪). Suddenly something inside me began saying,"Try it! Try it!”I had to wait my turn, though, trying not to look too eager. Finally, when everyone had had a chance to throw-the best throw going about 30 yards-I looked at the teacher.

"Hey,Orowitz,you want to try?"he asked.

Embarrassed,I looked down, but managed to nod my head.

“Well, come on then,"he said impatiently, and handed me the javelin.Behind me I could hear some of my classmates laughing. As I grasped the javelin in my hand,I was seized with a strange feeling-a new-found excitement. For some crazy reason,I was relaxed over what I was about to do,even though I'd never done it before.I raised the javelin over my head, took six quick steps and let the thing go.The same voice that had urged me to throw it,now told me it was a good throw.

Paragraph 1:

I watched as the javelin took off.My heart quickened

Paragraph2:

That night I took the javelin home with me.

For two years, Mika and I were hunting for a cheap, cosy cottage by a stream. Then, late one night, something appeared online. A log cabin(木屋)on four acres, with a dirt road to the Susquehanna River and protected farmland on all sides. Perfect!

Except......

“You know where it is, riiiight?” the realtor(房地产经纪人)warned when I called the next morning. Only two houses were down there. Everything else, for hundreds of acres, was open farmland. No police, no local government, not even a grocery store. The only place within fifteen miles to buy food was a one-room shop in the back of an Amish farm. If we moved out there, he warned, we'd be completely our own.

Whatever. It had to be better than our apartment here, right?

We pulled into the dirt drive way to find horses eating grass along the fence, flowers blooming in the streams, and an Amish farmer rumbling(轰隆隆)past in a steel-wheeled truck. Unbelievable! We threw open the car doors, excitedly talking about the wonderful view. Pulling the realtor aside, we couldn't wait to make an offer. And a few weeks later, we left Philly for our dream home.

Solitude(独处)was going to be our biggest problem — or so I thought, until I heard Mika scream. I dropped the box I was unpacking and came running. I found her on the back door, holding two-year-old Maya in her arms, moving away from a six-foot black snake winding at her feet. She had been watering a row of plants and when she stepped from one to the next, the snake dropped from the roof and felt down right where Mika had been standing a second earlier.

There lived two brothers, John McNeil and James, in a village in Kentucky in the north of America, who had lost their parents in a terrible earthquake ten years before. Worse still, ten-year-old John McNeil suffered from serious autism. He often stayed at a corner without saying anything with others and frequently ran everywhere, so his brother James was concerned about his safety.

On a windy, cold day, John McNeil forgot to put on his shoes and ran out the door. He headed straight for the 125-foot electrical tower behind the McNeiI home and didn’t realize the dangers of the structure. That day his thoughts were set on climbing to the top of that tower, touching the sky. Maybe he thought he could meet his parents in the sky. What a poor boy!

His seventeen-year-old brother, James, was always close by. James always made sure that no danger came to his little brother. But today was different. Today, John ran out the door unnoticed. He was making his way to the sky step by step by the time James saw him. John, like most autistic children, had no idea about fear or danger. James, on the other hand, realized that he had to face his greatest fear of all — the fear of heights.

However, James understood the danger of the electrical tower but chose to follow his younger brother secretly, trying not to look down, all the way to the top. He finally reached his brother and held him with his right hand. With his left hand, he held a metal bar to help stabilize them both. What a thrilling scene!
