The Fisherman's Fantasy was a club which attracted lots of people claiming that fishing was their favorite hobby. There were streams and lakes filled with hungry fish in the neighborhood. The club members met regularly to discuss the excitement of catching fish. They seemed to get crazy about fishing!

The group carefully defined fishing, the purpose of fishing and so on when somebody thought that they needed philosophies of fishing. They not only outlined fishing strategies and skills, but also thought about different questions. Do fish view the world as we humans do? What do fishermen look like to the fish? What do fish feed on? With so many questions to answer, they started their serious research and attended various discussions on fishing. Some even traveled faraway to study different kinds of fish, with different habits. What's more, some made effort to gain a PhD in biology with the objective of further exploring fish. But surprisingly, no one had yet gone fishing even once!

Because there were too many fishing places for fishermen to choose from, they even set up a special committee to make choices before a list of selected fishing places was posted on walls. Nevertheless, believe it or not, still, no one was fishing!

Finally the club carried out a survey and found out that some were attracted to study fish, some to clean fishing equipment, and several to go around encouraging others to go fishing. They were so occupied that they just simply didn't have time to fish themselves.

Now, Fred, a new member to the fishing club, instantly went fishing after the first meeting. He tried some skills discussed in the meeting, got the hang of them, and caught a fish. At the next meeting, he told his story, and was honored for his catch, and then scheduled to tell others how he did it. Nowadays, Fred no longer had time to go fishing due to all the speaking invitations and his election to the board of directors of the Fisherman' Fantasy. Before long, he began to feel bored, restless and empty. He desired to feel the fish bite on the line once again. So he refused those restless and empty. He desired to feel the fish bite on the line once again. So he refused those speaking invitations and retired from the board. He said to a friend, “Let's go fishing,”. 【推荐2】I received a message on WeChat. It began harmlessly enough: “Hey, girl Wanted to invite you to join my next challenge group —we’ll be focusing on fitting in 30minutes of exercise and balanced nutrition.”

It was all becoming too much. WeChat was running my life, not me.

But what killed WeChat for me was when I posted a photo, and five minutes later my son asked me how many “likes” it had got. His question was a wake-up call.

Before WeChat, surfing the internet was occasional and I spent a lot more time reading books and magazines. I checked in with friends through texts, emails and phone calls.

To recreate the simple life of those days and set a healthier example for my son, I deactivated my WeChat account.

I’d been in the habit of checking WeChat many times a day, so I had to come up with some new habits. I carried a novel around with me. I picked up knitting. I started taking yoga classes.

I started to remember a few things. My body is fine just the way it is. I have friends who will help me out when I’m in trouble, and I will help them out. I do my best to be a good mother, and our son is happy and healthy. We are very lucky to be able to have two vacations a year.

I stopped looking at the world through my cellphone. I felt completely present in the moment.

The break left me feeling better about myself, my family, my home and my life.

After a few weeks, I returned to WeChat. Now I look at the photos of my friends’ kids growing up and treasure how social media allows me to keep in touch with family far and wide. I look in on a daily basis, but no longer with the desire constantly to post updates.

It is not an addiction any more.

【推荐3】Poppy beamed at herself in the mirror. Her new dress was absolutely perfect. It was her favorite colour of blue and had a row of bows (蝴蝶结) down the front.

Poppy’s mother was making her famous fruit juice. “My goodness, sweetheart, why are you dressed up today?” she asked. “I’m trying on my dress for picture day tomorrow,” Poppy explained. “I want to make sure everything is perfect.”

“Well, I think you’re already perfect,” her mom said. “Be careful. Don’t spill it.” Poppy rolled her eyes, grabbing a cup of fruit and gulping it down.

Seconds later, her mom yelled, “Oh, sweetheart — you spilled your juice!” Poppy glanced down at the spots and gasped. She couldn’t go to school picture day like this! Her class picture would be in the yearbook forever. “It will be all right,” her mom said positively. “I’ll wash it tonight. It’ll be as good as new.”

The next morning, Poppy grabbed her blue dress out of the laundry basket. She pulled it over her head, but something wasn’t right. Poppy couldn’t lower her arms, and the bows pulled tightly. “Oh, no!” Poppy cried. “My dress shrank!” She ran to her closet to find something else she could wear. Finally, in the back of the closet, Poppy found an old yellow dress. Nevertheless, it would have to do.

While waiting for the class’s turn, she hoped it would never come. Maybe the camera couldn’t work or it happened to rain dogs and cats!

The class marched onstage. “All right,” the photographer called. “I guess we all have something we don’t like about our looks. None of us is perfect.”

Poppy glanced at her classmates. Rosa had a bandage taped across her nose. Tom was pulling at his pants, trying to hide his mismatched socks. Lei flashed a Jack-o’-lantern grin, showing several missing teeth. We’re all different, she thought. Maybe that’s what makes us special. Poppy breathed a sigh of relief.

“Cheese!” the photographer called out. The flash went off as the photographer snapped the picture of the yearbook. Poppy smiled her brightest. The picture day hadn’t gone the way she had planned. It had gone even better. “Perfect anyway!” she cried.
