A lot of people in our country take a nap after lunch, so do my classmates.     1     (recent) I have conducted a survey on     2     (take) a nap after lunch among my classmates. Most of them are in the habit of sleeping for     3     while at noon as they believe it does good to them. The majority prefer     4     do so around 12：30 and the nap usually     5     (last) for about 30 minutes. They often     6     (choice) to sleep at home instead of in their classroom     7     dormitory.

Hopefully, the result of my survey can draw the attention of our parents and school. Since most students are in need of a nap, proper arrangements should be made so that students can have a good rest after a whole     8     (morning) hard work. Students should not be     9     (ask) to do extra work during this period of time. After all, having a nap after lunch, one can feel     10     (refresh) and energetic enough to study more efficiently in the afternoon.

I found it very difficult to speak in public. I think it's due to     1    fact that I'm naturally shy.

When I     2    (ask)to deliver a speech in my English class, I just stood still in front of the entire class. I couldn't move or say a word. I remember the classroom was     3    （silence)for several seconds. During that time, I was even more aware of everything around me, the other students staring     4    me, my teacher watching me, and the clock ticking on the wall. It seemed s if the world were standing still. I could feel sweat     5    (drop) down my back. My teacher saw that I was frozen with fear. She finally came up to me and told me     6    (relax),take a deep breath, and start again from the very beginning. Her kindness made me feel better. Now I am still grateful for this experience, for     10     helped me overcome my shyness and build up my confidence.

I can well remember that I was once asked to deliver a speech titled—A Real Test in My Life—before the whole class at the age of 9！You can imagine how     1     (terrible) shy I was the moment I thought of that with so many eyes fixed upon me. I had no     2     (choose) but to prepare for it，though. First of all，I was to draft the speech，which was just a piece of cake for me，    3     good writer. But the hardest part     4     (lie) in my oral presentation from my memory—for to read from the paper was not allowed. The real moment began     5     I stood on the platform with my legs trembling and my mind blank. But my     6     (listen) were waiting patiently without any signs of rushing me. After what seemed to be a hundred years ，I found my audience applauding—I made it！From then on，my fear of talking before a big audience     8     (appear)．Actually，with my confidence     9    (build) up，I now turn out to be a great speaker.

Looking back，I know the greatest difficulty on our way     10    success is our fear. Overcome it, and we will be able to achieve our goals.

Have you ever wanted to be part of a band as a famous singer or musician? Have you ever dreamed of playing in front of thousands of people     1     a concert? To be honest, a lot of people attach great importance to     2     (become) rich and famous. But just how do people form a band?

Many musicians meet and form a band     3     they like to write and play their own music. They may start as a group of high-school students, for     4     practising their music in someone’s house is     5    first step to fame. Sometimes they may play to     6     (passer-by) in the street or subway so that they can earn some extra money for     7     (them) or to pay for their instruments. Later they may give     8     (perform) in pubs or clubs, for which they     9     (pay) in cash. If you used to collect small objects, I’m sure(if you were anything like my younger self) that you used to collect mechanical pencils.

In one of the math preparatory classes I     1    (go) to in elementary and middle school, we used to receive mechanical pencils as prizes for doing well on the in-class exams or answering questions in class. This was       2     I built up my collection of Cadoozles, which are short mechanical pencils decorated with brightly colored spaceships and ice cream bars. But I’ve long since used up all my Cadoozles and a majority of the mechanical pencils that I     3     (hide) in an empty mooncake tin so many years before, which makes me reflect fondly back on those old days, when receiving a mechanical pencil was as easy as drinking a glass of water.

Mechanical pencils are not only more convenient than your traditional Ticonderoga in the sense that they never need     4     (sharpen); they also produce thinner, cleaner lines, which is extremely important for drawers and drafters. Furthermore, they are environmentally friendly, since you don’t have to buy       5     wooden pencil whenever you run out of lead(铅芯). You can simply refill your mechanical pencil! There is only one slight negative I must remark on,     6     is that as someone who calls mechanical pencils “lead pencil” in casual conversation, the term “lead pencil” is confusing. Mechanical pencil lead is actually not made from the chemical element lead. It is made from a mixture of graphite and clay, which     7     not give you lead poisoning. This is contrary to what my third-grade teacher said when she saw my classmate John clicking his mechanical pencil against his index finger out of boredom: “John, stop that! You’re going to get lead poisoning!” I think all the third-graders (and teachers) in the world would feel much       8     (safe) if they knew what really made up the pencils they use every day.

It used to be so easy to grab a mechanical pencil whenever I needed one, but now    9     the mooncake tin has become increasingly lighter, I have learned to appreciate my writing instruments more. Perhaps I should have collected a few more Cadoozles when I was younger; perhaps I should have appreciated the feeling of holding up the mooncake tin when it was three-quarters full, hoping that there would always be a new pencil for me     10     (use) tomorrow.
