Tourism can be both good and bad. Yes, it brings in money for the local economy and creates lots of jobs for locals,     1     it may also bring some problems.

One growing problem is that tourists want to prove they have visited     2     destination. Tourists have used paint, rocks, or even keys to write on the memorial stones     3     the bottom of Qomolangma, and many other places. Thousands of tourist sites are being destroyed by tourists     4     “love them to death”. I have three words for people like this: please stop it. If you want to leave a mark on the world, do it by     5     (change) someone’s life with love. Pass     6     (kind) along to future generations, not destruction (破坏).

Another big problem in some places has been tourists disturbing (打扰) the local people and life. Some tourists wander around and take     7     (picture) of local people without asking for their permission. Other tourists love to party there late into the night, making     8     difficult for locals to sleep. I have three words for tourists like this: please be considerate. Have fun in a way that does not disturb others.

The number of problems from tourists     9     (be) endless: walking in large groups without considering others who need to walk by, crossing roads without thinking of local traffic laws, and many more. The only way     10     (solve) the problem of the terrible tourist is to make sure that you are not one! Be the best, kindest, most polite tourist possible.

Many Chinese students in autumn, will soon find themselves get to know more about traditional Chinese culture. Last month, the Ministry of Education announced a new set of curriculum standards (课程标准) for high school students,     1     will be introduced in the autumn term. One of the big     2     (change) is to place more importance on traditional Chinese culture.

According to     3     new standards, high school students will be required     4     (read) more classics (经典) of ancient China, such as The Analects of Confucius (《论语》) and Mencius (《孟子》), both in     5     outside class. There are many elective courses for students to choose    1     at my university,     2     (range) from art to zoology. For instance, I took a course on the harmonica this semester.

I think the elective courses give me    3     feeling that I can’t get from compulsory courses. For example, when I am bored with learning English, I take out the harmonica and play for a while, and immediately all my    4     (bore) will go away.

One of my roommates chose to take Japanese as an elective. She believes the class     5    (prove) useful to her career. She is more practical than I am, but I’d say that the majority of students choose their electives out of personal interests.
