文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍太空旅游即将成为现实,以及人们对此的质疑。

【推荐1】Space tourism is the term used to describe space travel for leisure purposes. What was once only a dream — described in books — is now becoming a reality.

Futurologists are scientists who try to develop predictions of what life will be like in the future. After the first man landed on the moon in 1969, they thought that hotels would be built on the moon by the year 2000. They also considered the possibility that, in the 2lst century, families might go for a holiday on the moon. Neither of these has come true yet, but the rapid develop- ment of technology may mean these predictions are a possibility in the years to come.

Space Adventures is now the only company to have succeeded in sending paying passengers into space. It makes flights for the world’s first private space explorers easy. Each person paid over $20 million for the 10-day trip to the International Space Station.

Following several successful explorations into space, several companies are now considering the possibility of enabling tourists to visit space, including Virgin Galactic. Passengers would be taken to a height of between l00 km and l60 km above the earth, experience 3~ 6 minutes of weightlessness and a view of the stars before being taken back down to the earth. This is expected to cost around $200,000 per person.

While it could be an interesting experience, there are some disadvantages to space tourism. Many people have said that a huge growth in the spaceflight industry could speed up the process of   global warming. In addition, space travel is only a possibility for the super-rich. Although Virgin Galactic claims to be opening space to the rest of us, there are still millions of people worldwide who can’t afford it.

1. Why are futurologists’ predictions mentioned?
A.To show that landing on the moon is easy.
B.To tell us that people are interested in space。
C.To show that people will live on the moon soon.
D.To show that exploring space further may succeed.
2. What can we say about Space Adventures?
A.It is able to send people into space.
B.It builds the International Space Station.
C.It earns about $20 million every year.
D.It provides free space travel for people.
3. What can we infer about space tourism from the last paragraph?
A.It is fit for all people.B.It receives some doubts.
C.It stops the spaceflight industry.D.It will lead to natural disasters.
4. What can be the best title for the text?
A.Space Tourism Is on the WayB.Space Needs Our Protection
C.Virgin Galactic Is Becoming PopularD.Space Tourism Leads to Global Warming

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了虽然造纸业受到Covid-19大流行的影响,但是很快就会反弹。

【推荐2】Today the paper industry has, like many others, been hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. But the industry is expected to bounce back in 2022, and by 2023, it’s predicted to reach new heights of $1, 031 billion. Here’s how that might happen.

The world was affected by the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020, as people rushed to pile up this bathroom product. In reality, there was never a true shortage. It’s not clear exactly why the mass hysteria occurred.

To nobody’s surprise, today the tissue market is still booming. Demand for toilet paper, tissues and paper towels has been growing for years. As an added bonus, many companies are now branching out into medical tissue papers. Some have temporarily switched to surgical face masks and gowns to meet the demand for personal protection equipment.

But there’s more surprising medical use for paper: rapid tests. The system is widely used for many routine tests, such as to detect pregnancy and HIV. And there are already rapid tests out there that use paper to identify if a person has developed antibodies to Covid-19.

Equally, food hygiene has become more of a concern. There has been a sharp decrease in the number of customers wanting to reach into a pot to fetch spoons, forks or straws for obvious reasons, causing restaurants to use more and more disposable packaging. Meanwhile, schools have started to provide paper lunch boxes so that students don’t need to eat all together in a canteen.

Then there’s art. After months of lockdowns and disruption to social calendar, practical hobbies such as DIY, crafts, art and baking have recently experienced a renaissance. Some paper companies have seen more interest in paper for education, art and design.

Of course, some aspects of paper production have taken more of a hit.

“We supply a lot of paper that ends up in hotel, so we’ve seen a drop in sales,” says Nick Bizzell, the director of London-based Bizzell Paper. But Bizzell is still optimistic. He pointed out that demand for certain types of paper, such as the A4 kind used in offices, has been shrinking for decades, after losing the battle against computers. But overall the paper industry is growing.

Paper is now protecting us from viral infections and boredom, and it will always be a valuable material in our life.

1. What does the underlined phrase “the mass hysteria” probably refer to?
A.The mass production of toilet paper in 2020.
B.The true shortage of toilet paper caused by the public.
C.The effect of Covid-19 on the paper industry.
D.The unreasonable storage of toilet paper among the public.
2. Which of the following have witnessed an increasing demand for paper?
A.Rapid tests and physical checkup.
B.Surgical face masks and eating tools.
C.Medical protection equipment and food packaging.
D.The treatment of Covid-19 and pregnancy detection.
3. What causes more use of paper in art?
A.Being unable to socialize.
B.The promotion of paper companies.
C.Being interested in art education.
D.The marketing strategies of paper companies.
4. What’s the text mainly about?
A.Paper industry on the decline.
B.Paper industry in the recovery.
C.The blow of Covid-19 to the paper industry.
D.The effect of medicine on the paper industry.

文章大意:本文是一篇新闻报道。主要介绍了嫦娥五号的发射,在月球的任务和回归情况,展示了中国科技的力量。

【推荐3】China’s Chang’e 5 spacecraft, tasked with bringing lunar rock samples to Earth, successfully landed on the Moon on December 1st, 2020. The 8,200 kg spacecraft, launched from China’s Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site on November 23, 2020, entered the satellite’s orbit on November 28th, 2020.

Within 19 hours of landing, the probe (空间探测器) gathered about 2k g of rocks and soil by drilling almost 2 meters deep into the lunar surface using its robotic arm. The sample-filled jar was placed in the ascender vehicle (上升器), which left the Moon’s surface and entered the lunar orbit on December 3rd, 2020. Then, in a historic first, the ascender and Chang’e 5 orbiter spacecraft successfully came together on December 6, 2020, to complete the first-ever robotic rendezvous and docking (交会和对接) in lunar orbit.

“In terms of the space tasks that humans have performed so far, only the Apollo program missions have completed the rendezvous and docking in lunar orbit. However, uncrewed rendezvous and docking have never been done before us,” Peng Jing told Chinese media ahead of the attempt.

With the rock samples safely transferred to the return capsule, the Chang’ e 5 spacecraft continued to circle the Moon for a few days before beginning its 112-hour journey back to Earth. The spacecraft landed in the Ulanqab region of Inner Mongolia, China, on the early morning of December 17th, 2020. Up to now, China has become the third country, after the US and Russia, to successfully get back lunar rocks. More importantly, the 1.2 billion-year-old samples are the youngest-ever obtained from the satellite. The novel space souvenirs, the first collected in 44 years, can give scientists a better understanding of the Moon’s formation and provide important insights into how Earth and the solar system evolved.

1. What did Chang’ e 5 do after landing on the Moon?
A.It drilled for rocks and soil.B.It took photos of the surface.
C.It sent data back to the earth.D.It analyzed rock samples soon.
2. Why were Peng Jing’s words mentioned?
A.To show that he takes great pride.B.To introduce the Apollo program.
C.To inform us of rendezvous and docking.D.To compare the differences of two tasks.
3. What can we get with the research into the samples?
A.Explore more into the earth.B.Store them as good souvenirs.
C.Know the evolution of the moon.D.Compete with the US and Russia.
4. In which section of a newspaper may the text appear?
A.Entertainment.B.Health.C.Education.D.Science.
