CALIFORNIA: LIGHTS ON THE LAKE (LAKE TAHOE)
Launched from boats on the shore of Lake Tahoe, this show is considered one of the biggest such displays in the West, which means the fireworks are visible all over town. If you’re worried about getting a seat, park your picnic at the El Dorado Beaches before 9:45 p.m. Or you can take the road less traveled and hike to the top of Mount Tallac for an unforgettable and best view of the display. Just remember you’ll have to hike down, so bring a headlight.
DELAWARE: REHOBOTH BEACH
Launched from the beach south of Rehoboth Avenue, these fireworks are visible up and down the boardwalk and beach. So jump on the Jolly Trolley(观光车) early and spend your whole day at the beach. There’s even live music after the fireworks. Note: This year’s fireworks display is scheduled for July 1, 2018.
FLORIDA: SERTOMA’S 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS (PENSACOLA BAY)
The Gulf Coast knows how to celebrate the Fourth of July. With vendors, arts and crafts, kid-friendly activities and live entertainment, this fun-filled day in Old Seville culminates(达到高潮) with the largest fireworks display in the area. Unfortunately the pony rides and face painting are only for the kids, though.

Pack up your lawn chairs, blankets and coolers and head about an hour outside of Atlanta to the University of North Georgia. It’s even pet friendly — just make sure your dog can take the noise. The celebrity footwear section is probably the most popular in the entire museum. Started in the 1950s there is a wide variety of shoes and boots belonging to everyone from queens and presidents to pop stars and actors! Most visitors find the celebrities' choice of footwear extremely interesting.
Room 2
Most of our visitors are amazed-and shocked-by the collection of "special purpose" shoes on exhibition here at the Museum of Footwear. For example, there are Chinese shoes made of silk that were worn by women to tie their feet firmly to prevent them from growing too much!

As well as shoes and boots the museum also exhibits shoe-shaped objects. The variety is unbelievable. For example, there is a metal lamp that resembles a pair of shoes, and Greek wine bottles that look like legs!

Lego Braille Bricks are designed to help people learn Braille. That’s a system of writing in which letters are represented by raised dots. People who are blind or visually impaired use their fingertips to read it.
According to the World Health Organization, 36 million people worldwide are blind. In the United States, it’s estimated that only 10% of blind children learn Braille. Lego Braille Bricks can help change that. The small dots on the bricks are arranged as Braille letters. Blind children can use these dots to learn Braille.
Lego plans to launch Braille Bricks next year. For some schools and institutions, Braille Bricks will be free. Each will contain about 250 bricks. Along with the alphabet, the bricks will feature numbers and math symbols.
The Danish Association of the Blind was one of the first organizations to come up with the idea of using Lego bricks to teach Braille. Thorkild Olesen is the president of the group. Olesen is blind. He says many teachers don’t have the tools and skills to help kids learn Braille. So they teach with audio tools, such as audio books. “Like any other people, we need to express ourselves in writing,” Olesen said. “Audio is great. But it can never replace Braille. Braille is the single most important tool for us in order to learn to spell correctly, write, and gain literacy like sighted people.”

Das gets to work at 3:00 a.m. Thirty workers are already working to make tens of thousands of rounds of bread. It will be brought to 1,516 schools in and around Vrindaban.
A Growing Problem
Going to school is difficult for more than 13 million children in India. They must go to work instead, or go hungry. That’s why India began the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, the largest school-lunch program in the world. A free lunch encourages children to come to school and gives them the energy they need for learning. The program began in the 1960s.
The kitchen in Vrindaban is run by the Akshaya Patra Foundation. It is one of the lunch program’s biggest partners. “Just $11.50 can feed one child for an entire year,” said Madhu Sridhar, president of the Akshaya Patra Foundation.
Lunch Is Served!
The Akshaya Patra food truck arrives at Gopalgarh Primary School. Since the program started, the number of underweight children has gone down. The children get foods they need — as long as they finish what’s on their plates.

Music lessons, horseback riding, summer camps, sports teams﹣the list goes on and on. Often,so do the costs. And even if the money is not there, some parents find a way. I know people who have borrowed from family and run up their credit cards to pay for all the stuff they believe their children just cannot miss.
“The experiences we thought kids had to have before high school has moved down to junior high and now elementary,” said William Doherty,a professor of family studies and director of the marriage and family therapy program at the University of Minnesota. Soon,we’ll be talking about leadership opportunities for babies.”
Somehow, not offering our children every possible opportunity”feels like bad parenting,”said Wendy Mogel,a clinical psychologist.
But in an effort to give their children everything. some parents end up not just using up financial resources, but also their own emotional energy.“A lot of parents are exhausted by their own overparenting,”said Bryan Caplan,an economics professor at George Mason University.”They make so many sacrifices and are so stressed out by driving around so much that they explode at kids for changing the radio station.”
“It’s easy to take a look at the more successful kids and assume that all the activities are why they are more successful,”Professor Caplan said. But research doesn’t bear that out. On a recent National Public Radio program,Steven D. Levitt,a professor of economics at the University of Chicago, said he and another economist could find no evidence that that sort of parental choices could be correlated at all with academic success.
1. What can we infer from William Doherty’s argument?A.Kids need to experience so many activities at a young age. |
B.Kids should seize leadership opportunities when they were babies. |
C.Kids are taking part in extracurricular activities at a much younger age. |

"For years, I found myself walking less and less. As I got older, aches and pains in my back and legs caused me to stay in my chair, watching TV and watching life go by. My doctor told me to be more active, and I tried. I tried canes and walkers…and I hated them. Dragging myself along, bent over, looking at the ground two feet in front of me—that didn't seem like a fun way to get around. Then, one day, a friend introduced me to the Perfect Walker. Nothing is going to stop me now!"
Join millions of older Americans who are rediscovering the joy of walking!
The Perfect Walker is an innovative mobility device that can change your life. It enables you to stand upright when you walk-with your spine straight and your eyes looking straight ahead. Your weight is supported by your upper arms and shoulders, some of the strongest parts of your body. Traditional walkers force you to put the pressure of your body weight on your hands and wrists. You push them in front of you, looking at the ground instead of where you are going. The Perfect Walker moves with you, with your feet free to walk in a normal fashion. Its easy height-adjust system allows it to be the perfect height for anyone from 4'9" to 6'2"and supports up to 300 pounds. The new Stand Assist HandlesTM enable you to distribute your weight across your arms and shoulders, not your hands and wrists, to help reduce back, neck, wrist pain and discomfort. It features comfortable arm pads, hand brakes, a fold-down seat and storage area with a backrest. It's built with aircraft- grade aluminum to be strong yet lightweight, and its streamlined design and oversized wheels make it perfect for walking in the yard.
Why spend another day bent over and dragging yourself around—or worse yet, lying in front of the TV all day? Pick up the phone and take back your life.
