Photographer Lindsey Villatoro gave one family the most beautiful gif. She organized a fake wedding ceremony so that a terminal(不治的)ill father could walk his Il-year-old daughter down the aisle.

Jim Zetz, 62, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and knew that he wouldn't be around for all the big moments in his daughter Josie's life. So when Villatoro heard about the family's heartbreaking story, she decided to do something special for them.

"One day you'll wake up and realize you're given the opportunity to change someone's life for the better, "Villatoro wrote in the description of the wedding video. "If you get an idea, don't think twice and run with it. It was an honour doing this for them. "

Villatoro first met Zetz and his family when she was invited to take one of their final family photos together. When Zetz's wife mentioned that Josie was upset that her father wouldn't be around for "memories down the line", Villatoro decided to help out.

Amazingly, the photographer managed to organize a mini-wedding in the family's backyard within 72 hours! With the help of financial contributions from the local community, she gathered a wedding cake, a dress, flowers, and make-up for the little girl. Friends, family, and even strangers attended the event to show their support.

"Your dad may not live to see you get married, but he is here to walk you down the aisle today, "Gary Galbraith, the pastor(牧师), said in the ceremony. "The daddy and daughter relationship is one of the most special relationships in life. "

At the ceremony Zetz placed a ring on Josie's finger as the pastor called them "daddy and daughter". Josie's mini-wedding coincided(同时发生)with her 11th birthday. Her mother said, "I knew it would be her last birthday with her dad. If I were Josie, this would be the best gif anyone could give. "

"It was a beautiful ceremony, "the neighbour Jennifer Stout said. "It's sad to think of someone so young losing her dad but at least she will have a memory of this event. "

【推荐1】My 12-year-old son and I ride bikes to and from his school every day. I accompany him on the 20-minute ride through Manhattan, drop him off and return at the end of day to pick him up. We always ride together;sometimes he leads;sometimes I do.And as we ride, we communicate the ways to minimize the dangers:Don't go too fast, and watch out for doors suddenly swinging out from parked cars and jaywalking pedestrians, etc. Some friends worry about the risk of riding in traffic, but is there a better way to let my son know how to deal with traffic dangers?

But recently he requested me to start hanging back a half block or so. This way he could enjoy the feeling of riding on his own, with the security of knowing that I was nearby in case he needed me.This is healthy, of course, as my son needs space to develop independence in preparation for his inevitable departure from home. However, that means soon he will want to ride to school on his own, and I will no longer have this wonderful routine."Let your children go if you want to keep them."I understand this and am trying to let my son go in age-appropriate phases, but I still suffer. It's one of the most troubling experiences of parenthood—recognizing that your presence is becoming less welcome.

My dilemma as a husband mirrors the concern I feel as a parent. My wife has just left on a six-month mission to cover the situation in Libya. In the days leading up to her departure, we spoke openly about the possibility, however unlikely, that she might be killed. But while I influence her decisions, I do not control them. Finally, it was her decision. I know that letting go is the wisest path in this case too.As we travel through life's phases, we must let go of so much. And I don 't think it gets easier with practice. But maybe just accepting that eventually we will have to let go is the secret to living a full life.

【推荐2】My father was a taxi driver but I am a king—King Renato, of the country Pontinha, an island on Funchal harbour. It’s in Madeira, Portugal, where I grew up. It was discovered in 1419; Captain Cook once came here.

In 1903, the Portuguese government didn’t have enough money to build a harbor port, so the king sold the land to a wealthy British family, the Blandys, who make Madeira wine. Fourteen years ago, the family decided to sell it for just € 25,000 (£19,500). I decided to buy it though I had no money—I was just an art teacher.

I tried to find some business partners, but they all thought I was crazy to want to buy what is actually a large rock; it has a small cave, a platform on top, and no electricity or running water. So I sold some of my possessions, put my savings together and bought it.

When the king of Portugal originally sold the island in 1903, he and all the governors signed a document, selling all the “possessions and the dominions (领土)” of the island. It means I can do what I want with it—I could start a restaurant, or a cinema, but nobody thought that someone would want to start a country. So that’s what I did: I decided that this would no longer be just a rock on the port of Funchal. It would be my island, about the size of a one-bedroom house.

After I bought it, the governor of Madeira asked to buy my island. Of course, I said no. He said that unless I sold it back to the state, he wouldn’t let me connect to any electricity. But I have a solar panel and a small windmill, and maybe in the future I will be able to generate power from the ocean around Pontinha.

1. What does the writer want to show by mentioning his father?
A.He had a royal family.B.He loved his family.
C.He was not a born king.D.He was not a good driver.
2. Who sold the island to the author?
A.A Portuguese king.B.An art teacher.
C.The Blandy family.D.Captain Cook.
3. How did the writer start the country?
A.He discovered the island.
B.He found business supporters.
C.He was supported by citizens in the island.
D.He took advantage of the official document.
4. What can we infer about the country Pontinha?
A.It was a tiny island.
B.A harbor port was built on it.
C.It was a wealthy land.
D.Life there was very convenient.

【推荐3】A Turning Point

Seventy years ago I was quite a small little girl. My father was very ill then, and my mother took in sewing(缝纫) of any kind so we could live. She would sew far into the night with an old sewing machine. She never complained even when the food would be very scarce(稀少).

Things were very bad that winter. Then a letter came from where her sewing machine was bought, saying that they would have to pick up her machine the next day unless payments were brought up to date. I remember when she read the letter I became frightened, I could picture us starving to death and all sorts of things that could come to a child's mind. My mother did not appear to be worried. However, she seemed to be quite calm about the matter. She said God would not disappoint her. I couldn’t see how God was going to help us keep this old sewing machine.

The day when the men came for our machine arrived. There was a knock at the kitchen door. I was frightened as a child would be, for I was sure it was those men who would take away our sewing machine. Instead, a nicely dressed man stood at our door with a darling baby in his arms.

He asked my mother if she was Mrs. Hill. When she said she was, he said, "I’m in trouble this morning and you have been recommended(推荐)by the neighbors as an honest and wonderful woman. My wife was rushed to the hospital this morning, and since we have no relatives here, and I must open my dentist office, I have nowhere to leave my baby. Could you possibly take care of her for a few days?" He continued, "I will pay you in advance." With this he took out ten dollars and gave it to my mother.

Mother said, "Yes, yes, I will be glad to do so," and took the baby from his arms. When the man left, my mother turned to me with tears streaming down a face that looked as though a light was shining on it. She said, "I knew God would never let them take away my machine."
