Sports and movies often go hand in hand. Many important elements of good storytelling are present in most sports competitions. As a result, screenwriters and directors are keen on telling interesting stories of athletes. Here are a few truly unforgettable sports films over the past years alone.
Read on! Kids.
Teen Wolf
Year released: 1985 Director: Rod Daniel
Teen wolf is one of the most famous films of the 1980s, starring Michael J. Fox who was one of the biggest stars of the decade. Fox acts the role of a werewolf (狼人) boy, Scott Howard. He stands out as a player of the school basketball team, gaining popularity and attention.
Sunset Park
Year released: 1996 Director: Steve Gomer
Starring Rhea Perlman, Fredro Starr, and the then- unknown Terrence Howard, Sunset Park is about a high school basketball team filled with kids at a loss for meaning of life. When the new coach, Phyllis Saroka, a woman, takes over the team, the kids give her a hard time. But she doesn’t lose heart or give them up. Eventually, they inspire each other and turn into a family.
Hoosiers
Year released: 1986 Director: David Anspaugh
The film tells the story of a small town in Indiana and how its high school goes on to win a state title despite all the difficulties. Featuring an amazing performance by Gene Hackman in a starring role as the team’s coach, Hoosiers is richly detailed and real to life, as it spares no expense in making sure that every problem that team must overcome is examined.
Space Jam
Year released: 1996 Director: Joe Pytka

If Disney's animated-movie(动画电影) relies on tales of heroes and princesses, of villains(坏人) destroyed and personal freedom achieved, then Pixar's movie is far more ordinary. For decades; the computer-animation studio has made movies that present remarkable feelings and experiences as the products of ordinary jobs, performed diligently by strange little beings behind the scenes. Monsters, Inc., in 2001, showed that our fears were created by blue-collar creatures. Inside Out in 2015, presented our feelings as brightly colored sprites(精灵). Now, Soul imagines how our personalities are created at a cartoon summer camp, where smiley blobs(小球) and squiggles(涂鸦) create human souls.
All these movies were directed by Pete Docter, the man who is also behind Up. The filmmaker is fond of using animation to create worlds rooted in abstract metaphor(隐喻). Soul is largely set in a world known as "the Great Before". And the smaller, human story he tries to tell— about a jazz pianist who finds himself stuck in the Great Before after a near-death experience—is sweet and attractive.
Docter has wrestled with"grown-up" themes before and managed to put them into an easy-to-understand story. Up began with the emotional hammer blow of an aging character losing his wife before he started a new adventure. Soul sets an even tougher challenge for itself by apparently telling the audience that Joe finds himself in to teach valuable lessons about finding joy in life even as it disappoints us.
We are all born with dreams. Docter seems to be saying with ideas and personalities that are created even before we come into the world. Compared to Pixar's recent sequels(续集) to past hits, Soul is a nobler project —a messy but expansive story worthy of its director's great ambitions.
1. How many Docter's works does the passage mention?A.Two. | B.Three. | C.Four. | D.Five. |
A.Using common cartoon characters. |
B.Counting on heroes' stories. |

The TV shows like “Children are hard to support!”, “Where are we going, Dad?”, “hot mom” and “cute kids” are becoming more and more popular. All of these show the new parents’ confusion in children’s education and the appeal for the balance between career and family.
In the real life, on the one hand the young parents feel helpless because they are too busy to accompany their children under the pressures of work and life; on the other hand they continue to do so. The data collected by HNTV shows that nearly two-thirds of their audience are female, among whom 36% are aged from 25 to 34.We can imagine such a scene that one evening a young mother is watching the show with her young children, while her husband is still at work or trapped in socializing, or maybe is just playing computer games in the bedroom. The story of a child without the company of father is still going on. In fact, it is sometimes the same to mothers. In a modern family, it is often the old who take the responsibility of raising a child. Theparticipation of mother in the children’s education is also very low.
It is just this kind of confusion where the parents have gone in the modern family education, and where the parents will guide their children to go that “Where are we going, Dad?” shows us. If a child wants to grow up healthily and safely into a modern citizen with independent personality and free spirit, it is very important for him or her to follow the parents who serve as their first teacher. Maybe this is the real reason why such kind of TV programs could get hot. The truth is that children will go where their parents go; and society will go where the children go.
1. To raise a child in modern society, parents should ________.
A.break down the barrier between children and teachers |
B.play computer games with their children |
C.balance well between family and career |
D.keep their children at home to avoid socializing |

B.Parents shouldn’t entirely leave the education of children to the old. |

【推荐3】Fire has been known for its powerful energy for centuries and is used in both ancient and modern ceremonies. Here are some fantastic fire festivals around the world.
Fire and Snow Festival
Originally, this festival had its roots in a religious ceremony, when in Japan farming communities would try to rid the bad spirits which troubled them. Although some people still believe in this purpose, the festival is now more of a community event. A sweet wine made from rice is served up there. At the peak of the festival, participants light a basketball-sized rice straw ball that’s attached to a rope and spin it above their heads.
Deulbli Festival
Another fire celebration in February is the Deulbli Festival in South Korea. The festival goes back centuries to when local families would keep cows. To maintain the grass, farmers would set fire to the mountains to destroy old grass and kill harmful insects. Now, a hilltop is set bright to pray for health and a good harvest in the coming year.
Quema del Diablo
In Central America, Quema del Diablo takes place in Guatemala, when the bad spirits are driven from Guatemalans’ homes and chased into the streets. By holding firework displays, bonfires, and burning devil statues, locals believe they are ridding themselves of bad spirits.
Guy Fawkes Night
Perhaps the most famous fire ceremony of all happens in England. Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night, is held on November 5 and goes back all the way to 1605. The most famous and biggest-celebration is in Lewes in Sussex, also known as the bonfire capital of the world. Whole streets are shut down and tens of thousands of people take to the streets to watch the parades.
