Sandy was one of my best friends at high school and she was interesting in every new thing. At that time, we often spend time together, sharing happiness and sadness as well. With her help, I made great progresses in my study. Last year, she decided study abroad. In other words, we would be separating for a long time. After she left, I prepared for a gift to show my best wishes to her. And she gave me the English book, which helped me improve my English. Since then, they have kept in touch with each other through emails. I think high of the friendship between us and look forward to see her again in the near future.

Years ago, I was a volunteer teacher in a village in Cameroon, which I befriended one of my young students, Dick. He was very helpful to me and spent much evenings at my home, assisting me with chores in exchange for meal, and teaching me the ins and outs of life in the village. He never asked me for something, but I would regular buy him school supplies or clothing, as he was very poor but said he was fatherless. At one point, I left him money care for my dog while I was away on a extended trip. After I left Cameroon, I lost in touch with Dick. I feel guilty for “abandoning him”— guilt that haunted me for years.

In the afternoon I started to feel sad because he is my best friend. After school, I asked him if he wanted to go with me as usually. He gave me a strange look and turned away. But, this time, he does say goodbye to me quietly. Later, while I was watching TV at home, the phone rang. This was Ben and he said he was sorry for that he did. He felt like childish. Dear Ralph,
I'm a newcomer here who comes of a small town. I describe myself as shy and quietly. Before my classmates, it seems always difficult for me to do things well as them. I'm sure they will laugh to me and see me as a fool. So I felt unhappy every day. Besides, I have few friends. I don't know that they treat me like this — they talk to each other very well in class, but after class we become stranger right away. I am trying to improve the situation and it doesn't seem to work. Can you tell me what I should do it?
Yours,
Li Hua

There are a lot researches showing that when we are kind to others, they become happier. In a sense, giving is much more better than receiving. If you spend time practice three acts of kindness each day, you will improve your level of happiness, especial if you practice such kindness often. An act of kindness can be as simple as holding the door open for someone, buy a classmate a favorite drink in the morning or giving moneys to charity. You can also call someone in need and offered a friendly ear. It is also an useful choice for you to cook a delicious meal for the family despite being tiring.
