The Organizing Committee of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 revealed its Olympic torch design in the National Aquatics (水上运动) Centre,     1     has been transformed into the “Ice Cube” for next year’s Olympic Winter Games curling competition.

The winning design,     2     (select) from 182 entries in a global competition, was praised by Beijing 2022’s judges for     3     (it) combination of Chinese aesthetic (审美的) value, traditional cultural meanings     4     advanced technology.

One of the design highlights     5     (allow) two Olympic torches to lock into each other at the top when torchbearers exchange the flame during the Olympic Torch Relay. The two-tone design represents an indication of fire and ice,     6     (symbolize) how it will bring light and warmth to the winter sports scene.

In     7     (recognize) of Beijing’s status as the world’s first city to host both the Summer and Winter Games, the 2022 Olympic torch features a similar design     8     the 2008 Olympic torch and by     9     same color combination and artistic elements from that torch, the Organizing Committee aims to present Beijing’s rich Olympic culture.

This year, several young athletes     1     (shine) brightly at the Beijing Winter Olympics, giving us a glimpse of their generation’s nature.

After she finished strong in the first two jumps in the women’s freeski Big Air event, it was certain that she could get a medal. After he was judged to have lost the gold to Canadian athlete Max Parrot in the men’s slopestyle final, the 17-year-old didn’t feel upset. Instead, he was happy to have the chance     7     (compete) with his idol.

“When I was on the platform     8     (hug) Max Parrot, it felt     9     (real),” Su told China Daily. “All I did today was enjoy the runs and concentrate on my tricks. As long as I am on my snowboard I am happy,”

China's Yang Qian Wins First Gold Medal of 2021 Olympics

The first gold medal of the 2020 Olympics was     1     (official) won Saturday in Japan. China's Qian Yang earned gold in the women's 10-meter air rifle（步枪）to take home the long-awaited first medal. The 21-year-old is     2     rising star in the sport.

Yang,     3     was ranked sixth in the qualification, scored 251.8 points in the final, beating Russian Galashina's 251.1 points to set off Team China to a fine start at the     4     (postpone) Tokyo games.

As the first champion of the 2020 Games, Yang     5     (award) her medal by International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach.

“It's unbelievable that I can be here. The     6     (compete) was really tight, but I'm so happy that I could win,” Yang said after     7     (claim) the first gold medal of the Games and for China.

“I'm so happy that this golden medal is a gift     8     my country. I'm so     9     (pride).”

But she had to keep her composure（沉着） to do it.

“I didn't think too much during the match because I was very nervous and my heart was beating very fast, so I just tried to be     10     (I) and keep my emotions in control.” the shooter added.

Deng Yaping, who was a well-known table tennis player, was born in 1973, in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. She started playing table tennis at the age of 5 and    1    (show) her great gift. Four years later, she won her provincial junior championship. At the age of 13, she won her first     2     (nation) championship and beat many other competitors in all kinds of matches in    3     following years. She had won 18 championships by the time she retired(退役) from sports at the age of 24. Deng Yaping is regarded as one of the greatest     4    (player) in the history of sport.

At first, Deng Yaping    7    (refuse) by the Henan Provincial Team just because she wasn’t tall enough. Her path to success was filled with many other difficulties, none of     8     stopped her. Now, she has become a living legend in the sports field    10    home and abroad.

The home crowd erupted when China’s Eileen Gu won the Women’s Freeski Big Air gold in Beijing.

Gu jumped into the top position with her third run,     1    (score) 94.50. Her total score was 188.25 in the event’s debut at the Winter Olympics.

The 18-year-old,who also     2    (go) by her Chinese name, Gu Ailing, is a freestyle skier, model and grade-A student with     3     American father and a Chinese mother. She grew up in the United States. It was there     4     she grew to love skiing. By 2018, she was representing the US in the world cup for the sport.

Then, she decided to switch from representing the US     5     representing China. The decision met with shock and     6    (confuse) from her growing fan base but Gu was     7    (determine), sharing her reasoning on Instagram at the time.
