Spectacular Waterfalls in the World
Victoria Falls, Zambia and Zimbabwe
They are accessible via the Western Zimbabwe town of the same name. Though technically not the tallest (107 meters), Victoria Falls is commonly known as the largest for its rapidly falling water. Summers can be hot and too dry to see the falls in full form, making the best views between March and August.
Iguazu Falls, Argentina and Brazil
Though Iguazu is only 82 meters tall, its curtain of water extends for over 1,600 meters. But if two stamps in your passport aren’t enough of a reason, these Falls are also considered the largest waterfall system in the world. The temperate year-round weather around Iguazu Falls only adds to its popularity.
Niagara Falls, New York and Ontario
The falls are impressively high at 99 meters but equally impressively long, stretching on for what feels like forever. While the Canadian side boasts a touristy town to spend the weekend, the American side trades mostly in natural views. For blue skies and high waterfall rainbow visibility opportunity, visit in summer. And while those making the trip in the winter shouldn’t expect the falls to freeze, they should bundle up or risk freezing themselves.
The Detian Falls, China and Vietnam
The Detian Falls is located in Daxin County of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, crossing the Sino-Vietnamese border. The roaring waterfall is separated into three-tiered falls by rocks and trees, dropping more than 70 meters. It has a maximum width of 200 meters. The waterfall is the largest naturally formed falls in Southeast Asia and has been identified as a top tourist destination.

One of the world’s greatest spectacles also happens to be one of the most vulnerable. Whether you choose to view this global treasure from a helicopter or go diving to enjoy close encounters with tropical fish, it’s hard not to notice the direct impact of climate change. Warmer temperatures have led to amounts of coral bleaching. If the damage continues at the rate, more than 90 percent of the living coral will erode within the next decade.
Blue Grotto, Malta
Malta is known for year-round warm weather, ancient cities, dazzling beaches, and the Blue Grotto: a series of caves that form high arches along the southern coast of the island. What makes Kruger National Park unique from other parks is that it is accessible via self-drive. About Sunscreens
■Wear SPF daily. It helps protect against not only sunburn but also almost 80 percent of the skin and ageing problems. Meanwhile, remember to prevent skin from drying after the use of sunscreen since skin needs moisture (水分).
■Choose an SPF number based on length of time in the sun and the intensity of the sunlight. SPF30 lets about three percent of UVB ray s through;SPF50 about two percent.
■Understand the difference between chemical (or “organic”) and mineral (or “inorganic” physical) sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens tend to be more lightweight and less oily, which absorb UV light (紫外线). Their composition causes a reaction where light is changed into heat and then gone. Mineral sunscreens, meanwhile, act like a barrier. Active ingredients protect from UV rays, and sit on the surface of the skin, reflecting the sun’s rays. These are generally thicker in property and can leave a white cast.
Application tips
■Apply enough:about a shot glass for the whole body and about a quarter teaspoon (1.25ml) each for face and neck. No less for high SPF.
■Apply at least 20 minutes earlier before heading outside and reapply every two hours (more if you are swimming or sweating).
■Don’t miss the hairline, ears, front and back of neck.
■Make-up with SPF is not enough for sun protection. Layer it on top of sunscreen.
1. What is one of the benefits of wearing sunscreens daily?A.Protecting against sun damage. | B.Solving skin problems entirely. |
C.Relieving all the aging problems. | D.Keeping skin from losing water. |
A.Sunscreens with a higher SPF let more rays through. |
B.Chemical sunscreens work by blocking the sun light. |
C.Mineral sunscreens prevent the skin from absorbing the sun rays. |
D.Mineral sunscreens are more lightweight than chemical sunscreens. |
A.Go outside 25 minutes later after applying sunscreens. |
B.Choose an SPF number as high as possible. |
C.Altogether put a quarter teaspoon on your face and neck. |
D.Wear make-up with SPF alone to protect yourself from the sun. |
