Join a Summer Swim Team and compete with other swimmers! The program is offered at eight different local pools for youths to 17 years old. The season runs June 21—August 21. Practices are daily (Monday through Friday) throughout the summer. The championship meet(冠军赛) is August 21. Cost: $50.00

Do you want to make a difference in your community? The Verizon Innovative App Challenge can get you started. The first step is to think of a problem in your community. The next step is to create an app that can solve the problem.
Groups of five to seven students in middle school or high school, led by a teacher, can enter the contest. First, teams compete on a local level. Teams that make it to the next round receive $5,000 for their schools. Finalists present their app ideas to judges in a live webinar (网络研讨会)．
Next, the judges pick national winners. The top eight teams receive an additional $15,000 for their schools, and each team member receives a Samsung tablet. Plus, the winning teams get the chance to bring their app to life.
A group of six girls from Los Fresnos, Texas, won the second annual Verizon Innovative App Challenge. They came up with the Hello Navi app concept, short for “hello navigation”. White Cube presented a large collection of international works by Andreas Gursky (German), Theaster Gates (American) and Beatriz Milhazes (Brazilian). But not every artist, gallery and form showed to equal advantage in this alternative fair. Besides depth and texture, there are aspects of gallery hopping that a website is unlikely to copy. One is serendipity —the sense of wandering between artworks and encountering the unexpected. 【推荐3】Internationally famous sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik and 20 of his students created 100 sand sculptures(雕像) of Santa Claus on the Puri beach—setting the world record for the Most Santa Claus Images on Sand.

Patnaik, along with his students, created the Most Santa Claus Images on Sand in time for Christmas to deliver an environmental message to the world. The message,"Save Earth From Global Warming", has been carved(雕刻) into the sculpture itself. Patnaik said, "It took nearly 48 hours to create 100 Santas and Christmas trees. About 1,000 tons of sand was used in creating the statues."

Two little girls from West Bengal officially opened the exhibition with the Most Santa Claus Images on Sand at the beach on the eve of Christmas. "The girls were chosen for the event because children love Santas," Patnaik said.

"Puri is the place where sand art started in the 14th century and the inflow of tourists into Puri is another reason why I chose the awareness about global warming by carving images of Santa Claus," said Patnaik. "The popularity of Santa is growing by the year among children. The message on global warming through Santa is especially for them as they alone can convince elders to restraint(克制) and prevent the disaster for the earth from global warming."

"Myself and my students are putting in at least 10 hours every day in giving shape to the Santa Clauses," said Patnaik, who was recently felicitated by President Pratibha Patil at Puri for his achievement in the field of sand sculpting.
