The city has a certain charm, but I find it isn’t as great as other Italian cities like Verona, let alone Venice or Rome. The Michelin Green Guide gives it two stars, which is right.
I first visited the city centre. The Cathedral and Castello Estense are at the heart of the city. Both have striking appearances. I visited the Cathedral first. Castello Estense is also worth visiting, which owes its name to the powerful Este family. It was built with bricks and surrounded by a moat (护城河). At the lower levels, the history of the city and the Este family are told through displays, and in another part the ceilings are shown through mirrors on the ground.
In the north, we can appreciate the Renaissance extension of the town, with straight streets and monumental houses. The famous Palazzo dei Diamanti lies here.
When I was visiting it, it started to rain, so after taking a few photos quickly, I cut my visit there short. It had been raining for a few days. When the rain stopped, I went to visit the historical centre and the Renaissance buildings.
After leaving there, I visited several other interesting places such as palaces and the narrow streets of the downtown. After four hours in Ferrara I left by train to Mantua. There I had a much better time.

B.The writer visited Palazzo dei Diamanti for a long time. |
C.The writer was much more satisfied with the tour in Mantua than in Ferrara. |

ParoLess than 10 minutes away from the airport, the historic riverside town of Paro is known for the National Museum, Rinpung Dzong and symbolic Tiger’s Nest Monastery. When you’ve worked up an appetite, step into any restaurant for fresh, handmade momo dumplings.
ThimphuIn Bhutan’s capital city, spend the day creating your own stamps at the Bhutan Postal Museum, touring the massive Thimphu’s museums and watching policemen manually direct traffic(there are no traffic lights in the entire city). When the sun sets below the mountains, enjoy yourself at bars like Grey Area, a popular art bar with live music where you can shout “tashi delek!”, a Xizang’s expression for good luck and health.
PunakhaBeloved for riverside farms where cows eat among rice and pepper fields, Punakha is home to what is its most beautiful temple, which sits along the Punakha River. Punakha’s low altitude means it tends to be hotter and sunnier than nearby towns and districts, which means you’ll need to take precautions to avoid sunburn.
KhomaFashion lovers can expect to visit behind the curtain in Bhutan’s textile center, Khoma. In the eastern district of Lhuentse, this village is home to roughly 1,000 residents—and few cars. It will take too much time to successfully control the spread of the mosquitofish,” says Giovanni Polverino. “This global pest is a serious threat to many animals living in water. Instead of killing them one by one, we’re presenting an approach that can inform better strategies to control this global pest. We made their worst nightmare become real: a robot that scares the mosquitofish but not the other animals around it.”
In the presence of the robotic fish, mosquitofish would stay closer to each other and spend more time at the center of the testing area. They were unwilling to swim to unknown waters. They also swam more crazily, with frequent and sharp turns, than those who haven’t met the robot. They swam away from the robot and back to their living area. The influence of fear lasted. The scared fish were less active, ate more, and froze longer, presenting signs of anxiety that continued weeks after their last encounter (相遇) with the robot.
For the tadpoles (蝌蚪) the mosquitofish usually hunt for food, the robot’s presence was a change for the better. Tadpoles have poor eyesight. They don’t see the robot well. Because the robot changed the behavior of the mosquitofish, the tadpoles didn’t have predators (捕食者) at their tails anymore and they were more willing to explore in the testing area. “It turned out to be a positive thing for tadpoles. Once freed from the danger of having mosquitofish around, they were not scared anymore. They’re happy.”
After five weeks of brief encounters between the mosquitofish and the robot, the team found that the fish spent more energy towards escaping than reproducing. Male fish’s bodies became thin.
“While successful at preventing mosquitofish, the lab-grown robotic fish is not ready to be put into the wild,” says Maurizio Porfiri. The team will still have to overcome technical challenges.

For Ahn, 17, a rising senior at Ames High School in Iowa in the US, there was a good month’s worth of nights staying up until 4 am — before going to school the next day — during which he first gained the idea for an auto rolling and erasing whiteboard, or ARE Board. He then submitted it to the Raytheon Technologies Invention Convention US Nationals.
All that work paid off for Ahn in 2022 when he was among inventors from across the country to win awards at the competition.
In his advanced placement physics class — and throughout most of his time in school — he noticed his teachers struggle with having to write and erase the same notes for each of their classes; that was if they could even reach the top of their traditional whiteboards. However, electronic whiteboards are too expensive.
He made a working prototype (原型) of a whiteboard on a motorized conveyor belt system that can be scrolled (滚动) up and down. It is more time and space efficient than a traditional whiteboard. He wanted to make something similar to an electronic whiteboard but far cheaper and easy to use.
“I’ve seen my friends kind of joking, ‘Isn’t this kind of a step backward? We’ve evolved all the way to electronic whiteboards’.” Ahn said.
“In some cases, it’s good to keep the traditional aspects and characteristics of some fundamental tools,” because markers and erasers are more tangible (有形的) and accessible to people, he added.
One of the awards he won at the competition provided him with a patent lawyer to help him get a patent application with the fee covered. He’d be willing to sell a patent to a company.
Ahn thinks of things in daily life that might make the world a better place. “I’m making a notebook of all the ideas that I’m thinking of,” he said.

An escape plan can help every member of a family get out of a burning house. The idea is to get outside quickly and safely. Smoke from a fire can make it hard to see where things are, so it’s important to learn and remember the different ways out of your home. If you live in an apartment building, you’ll want to know the best way to the stair or other emergency exits. If you’re in a room with the door closed when the fire breaks out, you need to take a few extra steps:
Check to see if there’s heat or smoke coming in the cracks (裂缝) around the door.
If you don’t see smoke — touch the door.If the door is hot or very warm — don’t open the door!
If you don’t see smoke and the door is not hot — then use your fingers to lightly touch the doorknob (门把手). If the doorknob is hot or very warm — don’t open the door!
If the doorknob feels cool, and you can’t see any smoke around the door, you can open the door very carefully and slowly. When you open the door, if you feel a burst of heat, or smoke pours into the room, quickly shut the door and make sure it is really closed. If there’s no smoke or heat when you open the door, go toward your escape route exit.
