Each year, on the 15th day of the seventh month in the Chinese lunar calendar, the Ghost Festival is celebrated all over Asia. On this day, it     1     (believe) that the gates of Heaven and Hell open up,     2     (allow) the spirits of all the dead to visit the Earth. During this time, people will burn offerings (祭品) and prepare fancy meals     3     (pay) respect to the dead.

Similar holidays are celebrated all around the world. However, these holidays tend to be less gloomy (阴郁的)     4     Chinese holidays. In the Western world, Halloween, Oct 31 every year, is mainly celebrated by     5     (light) pumpkin lanterns and dressing up in costumes (服装). It is considered     6     a time to remember and honor the dead. The Day of the Dead is celebrated in Mexico on Nov.1&2 each year. People will build altars (祭坛) at home and decorate them with candles, flowers, skulls (骷髅头) and gifts. Around the altar, people pray and tell stories about the dead. This holiday is also     7     (joy). In some public areas, there are even parties at night.

Death is a     8     (frighten) thing. But holidays like these can help us to better understand death as a natural part of life,    9     can remind us to value our own time on Earth and encourage us to live our best     10     (life).

Compared with the people in many other countries, the Australians seem to know more about how to enjoy their lives. In Australia, different people have different ways of enjoying     1    (they). They also have their own ideas about how to kill time (消磨时间).

I experienced the Naadam Festival in China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region for the first time this year. The festival     1    (fall)on the fourth day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar, usually lasting for three days. Naadam means "games" in Mongolian,     2    (represent)by three events: horse racing, wresting and archery,     3     are all so exciting to watch!

On the first day, I set off to the games early with my friend Burin. I saw a lot of people     4    (wear)fancy Mongolian robes. Some were feeding their horses, some were practising archery, and others were chatting     5     taking photographs. Burin told me that Mongolians travel every year from near and far     6    (attend)the festival, just as their ancestors had done for centuries.

After the opening ceremony and some amazing performances, the wrestling     7    (compete)began. After singing some songs, the competitors danced onto the green field, waving their arms in the air as if they were eagles. I was quite moved at their show of strength and grace.

I'm finally back home now, feeling really     8    (tire), but celebrating Naadam with my friend was totally worth     9    . He invited me back for the winter to stay in a     10    (tradition)Mongolian tent and eat hot. I can't wait!
