Villains (反派主角) are realistic. Studies have proven that we are more likely to sympathize with characters who are similar to us. Good guys are often portrayed in movies as nearly perfect, and it’s hard to relate to them. We all have our own imperfections and a dark side. So, villains are often more realistic than good guys are.
At the same time, modern antagonists aren’t 100% evil. They’re complex and troubled characters who have their own story. Everyone hates Dolores Umbridge from the Harry Potter movies because she’s unreasonably ill-natured. There’s no story and no logic behind her behavior. She’s just self-serving. But many antagonists actually have their point which we see, and often even accept. We see what they’re going through and what they’re thinking, and we can’t help but empathize with them.
We’re curious about them. Every time we see a person acting bad or weird, we want to know why. And that makes us eager to know more about them, about their past, and about what they’re even thinking. They’re controversial, and we like to analyze these characters and their actions. They’re not pure evil, and modern movies do a good job of emphasizing this. There’s something that made them evil or something that won’t let them be good. There’s some internal conflict constantly going on within the character that we just find fascinating.
Villains are unpredictable. We never know what will happen to the villain. And that makes us care about them during the whole story. It’s what gets us hooked on watching them through to the end. Also, you can’t predict their actions. There are not many options aside from the right thing to do for the hero. But there’re many absolutely crazy possibilities for the villain that we couldn’t come up with even in our wildest dreams. And this makes us interested in watching them.

“Eating Animals”
The 2018 documentary “Eating Animals”, based on the book by Jonathan Safran Foer published in 2009, tells us that factory farming is bad, and that most Americans don’t realize just how bad. Still, this isn’t a feel-guilty film. There’s plenty of hope as director Christopher Quinn shows farmers who are still using practices that do not, for example, force chickens to live their short lives in a dark building while covered in their own poop(大便). Will the film cause you to go vegan(素食者)?Eh, burgers are really tasty. But it will make you think about what it is that you’re putting in your mouth and maybe inspire you to head for the farmers’ market to see what a chicken that lived a happy life tastes like.

“The Last Tightrope Dancer in Annenia"
Sometimes it’s enjoyable to see what everyone else has been seeing. It helps with dinner party conversation. Sometimes, though, it’s fun to see something really different. “The Last Tightrope Dancer in Armenia” is a 2009 documentary about the only two surviving performers of Armenian tightrope dancing, 76 and 77 at the time of the film, and their desperate efforts to pass on the traditional art form to the only student of tightrope dancing left in the land, a 16-year-old orphan (MJL) boy.

Fantasia 2000
Budget: $80 million
Score: 75%
I remember disliking Fantasia 2000 in theaters as a young child, but I have developed a much deeper appreciation for the fantastic music as an adult. Disney has employed advanced sound tools to produce a movie that was under-appreciated at its first appearance.
Pete’s Dragon
Budget: $65 million
Score: 60%
I love Disney as much as the younger generation. But it’s disappointing to see flavorless remakes like The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast harvest billions at the box office while more soulful remakes like Pete’s Dragon is largely ignored.
The Rescuers Down Under
Budget: $38 million
Score: 70%
I won’t lie to you, kind reader. The Rescuers Down Under is the only movie that I’ve never seen here and my honor won’t allow me to pretend otherwise. According to Disney, it’s about the world’s bravest mice, Bernard and Bianca, who race to Australia to save a boy and a rare golden eagle from a cruel hunter. So, you know, normal Disney stuff.
The Great Mouse Detective
Budget: $14 million
Score: 72%
Picture this: a young mouse named Olivia is committed to discovering the truth of her father’s disappearance in 1897 London, and she got the help from his friends, Dr. Dawson and Toby. It’s basically Disney’s Sherlock Holmes.

After they were given an invitation to appear live on BBC, the Beatles quickly became famous in Britain with nationwide tours. By mid-1963, the Beatles had been extremely popular in England. Even their hairstyles became major trends at that time. They held large concerts and performed at clubs. They became the hottest thing on the pop music scene in England. They began as a modestly successful musician group and ended the year as show business leg-ends (传说). John Lennon and Paul McCartney were composers (作曲家) of the year.
They decided on a tour to the United States in 1964. They were not sure how the Americans would react to the new type of music. Beatlemania (披头士热) hit New York on February 7, 1964. Hundreds of fans went to the airport to greet them. They performed their first concert in America at CBS television's 53rd street studio. The concert was broadcast live and attracted the largest one night audience in the history of television up to that time.
The Beatles were described as a British invasion (入侵) by local and nationwide news-papers at that time. Their victory in America was still remembered as a major turning point in the history of rock and roll. Thanks to the Beatles, a lot of opportunities were opened up to new faces on the market.
