Grandmother Bonnie called out to Amy as she finished setting the table and served them dinner. When Amy didn’t respond, Bonnie went to the young girl’s room and pushed the door open. Amy sat at her desk with her headphones on, drawing a picture.

“Are you drawing those strange pictures again?” Bonnie yelled. “Have you finished your homework? Your teacher called me today and told me you’ve been ignoring her homework!” she shouted angrily.

Minutes later, Amy walked into the kitchen and quietly sat at the table. They began eating dinner in silence. Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

Bonnie answered the door to see a man in his early 40s standing outside. It turned out to be Mr. Henderson, a famous New York-based cartoonist. He explained to Amy he received a letter with some pieces of her artwork and was so impressed with her talent. In fact, he wrote Amy letters, but never got an answer.

Amy noticed Bonnie moving nervously in her seat, and realized why the letters had never reached her. Her grandmother kept them hidden from her.

“I’ m here with an offer for Amy,” Mr. Henderson continued. “We are accepting applications for our arts training program this summer. I would personally teach the students the art of cartoons and everything related. For that, Amy needs to pass a test, and then she’ll have to spend her summer in New York learning under me. If everything goes well, she will be able to join my team later and seek her dream of art.”

“Really?!” Amy was so excited. But Bonnie refused because she promised Amy’s late parents to raise their child well and make her an educated person. Mr. Henderson sighed and pulled out a file from his bag, “It’s a test. I know your Granny is against it, kid. But if you manage to finish it and hand it over to me by 10 a.m. the day after tomorrow, I can take it to my manager,” he added as he gave Amy an encouraging smile and left the house. Amy decided to finish the test after school the next day.

Two tickets.Only two tickets to the big basketball game.

Three pairs of eyes all focused on (关注) the tickets in Dad’s hand. Marcus, the oldest, spoke the question running through everyone’s mind, “Only two tickets? But, Dad, which of us gets to go with you?”

“Yeah, Daddy, who gets to go?” reported Caleb the youngest.

“Dad, can’t you get any more tickets?” I asked. I might be the in-between sister, but I was just as eager as my basketball-crazy brothers were for a night out with Dad.

“I’m afraid not,” Dad answered. “Mr. Williams only has two season tickets. He gave them to me.”

But each of us wanted to get the ticket.

“I guess I’ll have to figure out a fair way of choosing between the three of you by tomorrow morning. I’ll have to decide who deserves it. Let me sleep on it — okay, guys and girls?” he added quickly before Mom and I could correct him.

The next morning, Dad and Mom went shopping early and said we should all get started on our Saturday chores (家务活) as soon as we finished breakfast.

“I’m going for the morning newspaper.” Marcus announced.

“Wait for me!” Caleb added.

The back door snapped shut as the two boys rushed down the driveway. I looked at the breakfast table in front of me. Well, I thought to myself as I pushed my chair away from the table, looks like Saturday morning chores start right here.

A few minutes later, as I was washing offthe kitchen countertops (操作台), I heard the familiar “thump… thump…thump” of the basketball. I glanced out of the kitchen window and saw Marcis practicing his hook shot while Caleb cheered him on.

“You guys, Mom and dad will be back any minute. Remember the chores.” I reminded them as I lifted the lid (盖子) on the garbage container and placed the full plastic bag inside.

It was two weeks before a holiday, and I still hadn’t sent out our holiday cards. Each year, my family gets dozens of holiday cards from friends and family. I wanted to send some out as well that year — perfect ones.

I decided to make them with a family picture taken by a professional photographer. After dropping off my two boys at school, I called a local photographer. The photographer told me since there wasn’t much time before the holiday, he would come on early Sunday morning and told me to have the whole family in white shirts.

Now, not only did I have my usual five million things to do, but I also had to find matching white shirts for my entire family. My husband was trying to help, but I thought I could juggle (尽量兼顾) everything and fix everything perfectly. He also suggested wearing our old shirts, but I insisted on getting new ones to ensure the picture was perfect.

After visiting a bunch of stores, I got perfect white polo shirts. I was able to continue doing all my other errands (差事) with a smile, knowing that my family was going to look great for the holiday photograph session.

I’m not sure where the rest of the hours went, but when I went to get my younger son to sleep on Saturday night, I noticed his hair was a complete mess. He needed a haircut! With all my running around, I hadn’t noticed how badly he needed one. It was 8:00 at night — too late to find a barber. The photographer was coming the next morning.

I took out the scissors I barely used and told my younger son to come into the bathroom where I started to cut his hair. My son was very cooperative. When I was done, we both knew that the haircut was a disaster! I started to panic — our holiday cards might be delayed.

My husband offered to help again. I hesitated for seconds and agreed. He asked me to go downstairs and have a cup of tea while he took care of the situation. My older son also came to help.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

With no mood for tea, I was walking around downstairs restlessly. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

When I saw the three of them were happy with the same buzz cut (寸头) made by my husband, my tears were replaced with smiles and I made a decision. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
