Pansy Takes a Trip
Very excited, Anika hugged her favorite doll tight as she followed her parents through the airport. It was going to be her first time on an airplane. When she walked down the narrow aisle (走廊、过道) of the plane to find her seat, a tall flight attendant (服务人员) smiled at her and asked where they were going. “Walt Disney World,” Anika said with a smile, “We’ll be there for a week.”
“Have a wonderful trip,” replied the flight attendant, pointing to her name tag (名签), “I’m Leanne. You let me know if you and your pretty doll friend need anything.”
“Thanks. I’m Anika, and this is Pansy,” said Anika, holding the doll up to show her, “Do you fly to Disney World every day?”
Leanne shook her head. “I get to fly all over the world. It can be fun to explore new places.”
The flight was going to be a few hours. Anika read a book with Pansy and did some puzzles her mother had packed for the trip. Soon she was getting a little tired and asked Leanne for a pillow (枕头). The flight attendant returned with a pillow, a blanket, and a sleep mask to cover her eyes. Anika tucked Pansy under the blanket with her and fell asleep quickly. In no time, it seemed, she was being woken up again because it was time to land. They had arrived!
“Already?” yawned (打哈欠) Anika. She wasn’t quite awake yet. Her parents were busily packing up their bags and jackets, ready to leave the plane. Leanne walked past them, collecting the pillows and blankets from passengers as she went.
“Now you will have lots of energy to enjoy your visit to Disney World!” She smiled to Anika. “I will see you next week on your return flight home.”
Anika was delighted to be in the new city. When her family got to the hotel, she couldn’t wait to bring Pansy along to see all the amazing sights with her. She looked around, but she couldn’t find her doll.
She searched through the bags and jackets, but Pansy was nowhere to be found.

Although I am a girl, I can say I am a true fan of soccer games, for it is definitely one of the best ways to get away from my tiring work temporarily and have fun. Therefore, the moment I got the news that there would be a game between our home team against the Team from London City, immediately I booked a seat at the front row, wishing to have a fantastic weekend.
I had a great mood when I got seated in the stadium. However, as the game began, I spotted that in front of me sat a guy, who looked quite nice. But maybe his idea of having fun was nothing like mine, or most normal well-behaved fans, such as standing and yelling, non-stop, as loud as he could. He yelled at the coaches, at the players, at the London City’s fans, and even at the officials present, always at the top of his lungs.
He kept his action for the entire 45 minutes and never showed any sign of tiredness. Obviously he was so absorbed in the game that he failed to notice he was ruining the experience of hundreds of others.
With him yelling by me, my ear drums almost got broken, for his mouth was so close to my ears. For a while, I even thought of shouting back at him and stopping his yelling. People around were turning to look at him, and I could read their thoughts, “Is he never going to stop?” But He seemed blind to those looks.
At half-time, I escaped by walking for a few minutes outside the stadium. I was thinking of seeking an empty seat in the student section across the stadium, but to my disappointment, the seats were all taken. I had no choice but to go back to the guy.
To make matters worse, when returning to my seat, I missed my steps and fell heavily on the stairs. As I was struggling to stand up, a pair of huge hands helped me from behind.

Chris and I laughed as we got off the Tilt ‘n’ Spin ride and wandered into the crowd at the fair. We felt like we were still spinning (旋转).We inched along with the crowd, one small step at a time. In front of me, all I could see was the back of someone’s T-shirt.
“Three tickets each, please," said a man right in front of us. Bodies pushed against us. “Wait,” Chris said. “We’re in a line? What for?”
“Ferris wheel (摩天轮),” said the man. “Step right up and sit right down.”
Before I knew it, I was sitting on a small seat that was hung in what seemed like outer space. As we reached the top, Chris was excited. He was totally attracted by the amazing view, but I was rather nervous with my hands holding a bar for dear life.
“There’s a place that sells chocolate-covered bananas,” Chris said. “Keep talking,” I thought. “So you don’t notice that I’m totally terrified (极度惊恐的).” Every time Chris moved, our seat rocked. I tried to pretend I was playing on the swings in my backyard, and hoped I wouldn’t cry. “How many turns will this make before it’s over?” I managed to say. Luckily, my voice sounded normal. “Five or six, probably, Chris replied. “ We have tons of time. Look, a hot-air balloon!” He pointed and the seat shook. I cried. Chris looked at me. It seemed he’d realized something.
On our fifth time around, the wheel suddenly stopped, and we were hung in midair at the highest point possible. I cried, again. I couldn’t help myself. “Hey, Jared,” said Chris, “are you OK?” I nodded and tried to smile like I was having fun. Chris patted (轻拍) my shoulder and said we would be back on the ground soon.
“Attention!” called a voice over the loudspeaker. “Due to mechanical difficulties, the Ferris wheel is stuck. We’ll get it turning again as soon as possible.”

One year, I was burn by hot water, which left me with some permanent, ugly scars on my arms. Growing up, I tried to hide those scars. Even in the hot summer, I’d wear shirts that had long sleeves which could cover all my scars. I feared being laughed at by other kids, although many loved me because I was nice and kind. I saw myself as different.
At 12 years old, I went to junior high school. On the first day of school, I found that we had swimming class every week and we were required to change into swimsuits in the open locker room before the class. This meant I would have to undress before the other girls. They would see my scars.
“Would you feel better if I talked to your teacher to see whether you could change your clothes after the other girls are gone?” my mother asked. “Yeah,” I said quietly. “I’m afraid they’ll laugh at me.”
My mother looked at me. Even though she may have been hurting for me inside, she didn’t let me see it. The next day, my mother met with my teacher and they worked out a solution: I would wait until the other girls got dressed and went to the class, and then I would put on my swimsuit and be allowed to be late. I was relieved.
But that night as I lay in bed, I felt like a coward (胆小鬼). I didn’t want to be different and to be picked on because I was allowed to do things the other girls didn’t get to do. It was then that I knew what I had to do.
The next morning, as I got ready for school, I told my mother, “I think I might go ahead and put on my swimsuit like everyone else. I don’t want to be different.” Surprised, she hugged me and said, “I’m proud of you. But Stacie, if you change your mind, I’ll support you.”
That day, I felt nervous because I knew that I was going to change my clothes in the presence of other girls for the first time.

Excited screams of joy, the sounds of two happy little girls playing in the sand, rang across the beach. But I walked along, barely aware of it. I’d come to this remote beach on my sailboat, a place to escape. My wife and I had recently separated, our marriage in trouble. I worried about my two boys, just six and eight. It seemed like forever since I’d heard them laugh. But I didn’t know what to do to make things better.
“Help! Help!” The girls shouted. I’d meant to tell them to stay away from the dangerous water. Now one of them was in the ocean, beyond the surf line. I could just hear her screams over the waves. Any second now she’d be swept away. I ran across the sand as fast as I could. The other girl was at the edge of the surf line, yelling.
“Wait! Stop! Don’t go any farther!” I charged into the waves and was reaching for her when a wall of water dashed over us. For half a second I saw her disappear under another big wave. I’m a strong swimmer, but I could feel the wave pulling me hard. I swam to her and seized her, her little body shaking, trembling. But where is the other girl? I saw a waving arm. A head broke the surface, not far away. The arms of the girl I’d rescued were wrapped desperately around my neck. She was breathing with sobs. “Let go of my neck. I need you on my back. Hold my shoulders so I can swim to your friend.”
She loosed her hands and I shifted her to my back. “She’s my sister, Sarah, and I am Lillian,” she said. For a moment I thought of my boys. How much they loved each other. How much I loved them.
I looked across the water and saw a small head after a big wave. I quickened my swimming, fighting for each breath. Tiny arms pressed against my shoulder. I reached out and held the second little girl. She was in total tiredness, taking deep breaths, crying quietly.

It was just past midnight. The stars were shining across the sky. Nicholas Bostic, a 38-year-old driver, was still out on his evening pizza delivery shift. With his favorite music on, he enjoyed the soft wind kissing his face. A she drove pasta two-story house around a street corner, he was shocked at the frightening sight: It was on fire! He stopped his car and rushed over to assess the situation and to determine if anyone might be trapped inside. He reached for his phone to dial 911, but realized he left it at home. He didn’t hear sirens(警报) in the distance. Nor did he see any bystanders dialing the fire department. Nicholas feared the home’s sleeping occupants might not wakeup in time to move to safety.
With no time to waste, he made the courageous decision to enter the home on his own without protective gear(护具). He gained entry through the back door. He rushed upstairs, yelling “fire!” throughout the home. The oldest child, Seionna, heard his screams and woke up. She woke up her younger sister and a friend who had stayed the night. She then ran to grab her 1-year-old baby sister.
Nicholas called out to the terrified girls and instructed them to follow him. The sister—Seionna, 18; Shaylee, 13; and Kalia, 1―and their family friend, Livian, 13, followed his directions to escape to the safety of the street.
“For a minute I didn’t understand it,” Shaylee recalled. “But my sister ran upstairs with the baby in her hands, yelling at us to get up because there’s a fire. That’s when we went downstairs, and Nicolas was downstairs helping us.”
Once outside in the fresh air, the girls shook in far and coughed from the smoke. However, they soon realized that their 6-year-old sister, Kaylani, had not escaped with them.

There was a rich couple who was throwing a big new year party at their house. So they went shopping at the market where everything was of high cost and fixed price. They wanted to maintain their high living standard so they didn’t mind paying a lot for it. After purchasing everything they needed, they called a porter to carry everything and drop it off at their home. The porter who came was of an old age, not very healthy looking. His clothes were torn and he looked as if he wasn’t even able to meet his daily needs.
They asked the porter about the charges for delivering their goods at their home. The old porter quoted just a $20, a price well below the market rate for delivering goods at couple’s home in his cart. Yet, the couple argued and bargained with the porter and finally settled for $15. The porter was struggling to make money for every single meal so he needed anything he could earn.
The couple was very happy thinking how well they bargained with the poor porter and paid him $15 in advance and left after giving the porter their address for delivery. They reached their home and one hour passed, two hours passed, but the porter still hadn’t delivered their stuff(东西,物品).
The wife started to get angry at her husband, “I always tell you not to trust such person but you never listen to me. Such a person is not even able to earn to feed himself for one time in a day, and you handed him everything we purchased for our big party. I am sure instead of delivering at our home, he must have disappeared with everything. We must immediately go back to the market to inquire and then to the police station to file the complaint against him.”
They both left towards the market. On their way, near the market, they saw another porter. They stopped him to inquire about the old porter and noticed that he was carrying their stuff in his cart!

Zipping Out Of Fear
“Breakfast time!” I quickly put on my clothes and rushed down the stairs.
“Come on, we don't want to be late!” My mom said. The aroma of pancakes filled the kitchen, making the room warm. I looked out of the window. The sun was out, making a warm and brightmorning.
“Today's the day,zip lining” My dad said, sounding very enthusiastic early this morning.
Today we would go zip lining. Theexcitementbuilt up inside of me as breakfast went on. After breakfast, we set out in my dad's car. Half way through the ride, the sun grewhot, and the leather on the seats burned my legs. I thought about the trip, how myparentswent but not me. It was my first time experiencing something like this. I also thought about myfearof heights, one thing I tried to get rid of multiple times. It got in the way of so many fun activities, like roller coasters at Kings Island.
We were basically there by now, the sun still blazing hot. We pulled up to a big sign where ourinstructorwaited for us.
“Hi y'all!” said our instructor cheerfully.
“So, have y'all done this before?”
My parents nodded but I shook my head. Our instructor went over safety instructions while we each put on a safetyharness. I started to get nervous. A never ending roller coaster of excitement and anxiousness built inside of me. I looked down thecliff. My heart skipped a beat when thewindhowled, blowing leaves and twigs in the trees. My legs started to shake.

Mary was fond of outdoor activities, especially the beauty of nature. She would often spend her weekends hiking, biking, or simply taking long walks in the countryside. She had a group of close friends who shared the same enthusiasm for the outdoors.
One day, while enjoying a cup of coffee at a local cafe, Mary’s friend Jenny approached her with an exciting idea. “Mary, have you ever thought about stargazing (观星) in the wilderness?” Jenny asked, her eyes shining with excitement. Mary’s eyes widened, and a smile spread across her face. “Stargazing? That sounds incredible! Count me in,” she exclaimed, her voice filled with expectation.
The plan was set for a cool evening when the sky would be at its clearest. As the day turned into night, the two friends gathered their warmest clothes, packed some snacks and hot chocolate, and set off on their adventure. They began their journey from Mary’s house.
As they walked hand in hand, their breath turned into misty clouds in the cool night air. The moon was hidden behind thick clouds, casting a darkness on their path. But instead of feeling scared, they felt a rush of excitement washing over them. The stillness of the night, broken only by the soft whispers of the wind, brought a newfound peace to their mind.
They walked through the streets, little by little, the city lights faded, and the stars above became increasingly obvious. They couldn’t help but feel amazed by the countless stars that decorated the sky. They decided not to choose the well-known path and wandered deeper into the wilderness. Fireflies (萤火虫) danced gracefully, lighting up the night sky.
Mary’s eyes widened with childlike wonder as she watched the tiny creatures create their magical light show. Absorbed in chats and laughter, they failed to notice when the familiar sights started to disappear, slowly getting swallowed by the tall trees of the forest.
