Imagining Food Fit for a Queen
Are you a writer with a fascination for food? Then we’ve got a competition for you. The competition began in 2008 and is the only national food writing competition that is aimed at children and young people up to the age of 18.
To be in with a chance of winning, write a short story or poem around the theme of “Food Fit for a Queen”. You can explore the theme in any way you want. You could write about a tea party that our Queen is invited, or imagine a meal with a real queen. For example, you could imagine dining with your favourite historical queen. What would it be like to have dinner with Queen Victoria or Elizabeth I? What would their table manners be like, and what would be on the menu?
The competition is divided into four different age categories (分类), each with a different word limit:
·6 and under — 150 words
·7-10 — 250 words
·11-14 — 500 words
·15-18 — 750 words
The judges will choose a winner and a runner-up in each category. Your story or poem needs to be written without the help of a parent. Please include the word count at the end of your story, and send your entry (参赛作品) by email to competitions@theweekjunior.co.uk by 30 April 2022. To date we have rescued and adopted over 8, 000 dogs. We offer education to our adopters on how to use natural supplements and a good quality food to care for the new dog or pup. We offer on-site puppy kindergarten classes for our adopters during the months when the weather is favorable. We send our rescued dogs home with an adoption contract that ensures the dog will never again end up in a shelter again. We advocate positive reinforcement (强化) training for dogs at home.
We charge an adoption fee. Our adoption fees vary. For senior dogs (9 years and older), the adoption donation ranges from $150 to $350. For adult dogs (older than 1 year) the donation is $450. Adolescent dogs range from $450-500, and the donation for puppies is $600. We are a 501c3 organization privately funded by donations and the adoption fees. We are always very grateful if you can add a little extra donation to help us continue our rescue work.
Our shelter is small and we cannot accommodate drop-in visits at this time. If you would like to meet our rescued dogs, please fill out an application for free and we will send you the next steps. If you have additional questions, the best way to reach us is via email to adoptions@saveadog.org.

The retina is the light sensing nerve tissue at the back of the eye. In no time the potentially blinding condition was treated and his vision is now restored.
"In April 2008, I noticed straight lines started to become distorted, and white patch appeared in the centre of my vision. I went to the Singapore National Eye Centre immediately. The ophthalmologist, a medical doctor who specializes in eye care and surgery, found a central macular hole in my left eye."
The treatment of this condition involves delicate judgment dependent on the experience of the doctor. The success of the recovery, however, relies largely on the face- down posture by the patient.
"The Ophthalmologist explained to me the operational procedures, and taught me how to comply with the post- surgery face- down posture. The best part is that when I forgot some of the key points he told me, he showed no sign of resentment but instead comforted me not to worry before he went through the points again. I underwent an operation which lasted for only one hour, and maintained a face- down posture for three weeks. The result was very successful."
"I once consulted my Ophthalmologist during his lunch time, and he attended to me without finishing his lunch. His understanding and concern shown towards his patients can be scarcely found in other medical centres. I am very pleased to have received timely treatment in Singapore National Eye Centre where the doctors care about their patients."
