Even worse, some schools have never had music classes to begin with. But without them, students’ academic (学术的) growth and spiritual health could suffer. In fact, music classes are necessary for all students in schools.
Recent studies Brown University have shown that students who received music education classes were better in math and reading skills than those without music classes. Another study by The College Board found that students taking music and art classes got higher points. Students’ academic success seems to depend on their taking part in music education..
Music programs in public schools also help to add to a student’s sense of pride and self-confidence. Teens today have too many learning tasks. Besides, they have family problems, self-confidence problems, relations hip troubles, and choices about smoke and alcohol (酒精). All of these can stop academic success, but music education can help. A study by The Texas Commission on Drug and Alcohol Abuse found that students who took part in school music programs were less likely to turn to smoke. Music programs encourage students to work together to produce an excellent performance.
Music crosses language, class and culture. Music allows students from different countries to connect. For example, at a school talent show, a new Japanese student played a piano duet (二重奏) with an American classmate. Two students from different cultures worked as a team with self-confidence and common purpose through music.
The gift of music is priceless. We need to be sure to have necessary music classes for all students. The world is losing its music, and putting music into schools is the first step to get it back.

A program in the United States brings scientists and engineers into elementary schools to teach teachers more about how to teach science.
Dave Weiss is a retired engineer. One day each week he volunteers at Georgian Forest Elementary School in Silver Spring, Maryland, near Washington. He works with teacher Fred Tenyke on science projects for ten years and gets as much pleasure from helping the teachers as he does helping the students.
Student Jada Lockwood says she enjoys Mr. Weiss' visits to her classroom. She likes the drawings he uses to explain scientific ideas.
The American Association for the Advancement of Science sponsors the Senior Scientists and Engineers program. Dave Weiss has been a volunteer in that program for many years. The scientists and engineers help teachers in elementary schools improve their skills.
Mr. Weiss says he and the other volunteers help teachers by providing hands-on knowledge. He notes that science is an area in which many elementary school teachers have______experience.In elementary school, for the most part, a regular classroom teacher is responsible for teaching science, along with reading and math, and if they don't have a strong science background, just by nature, they're going to tend to underrepresent science in the curriculum.
American fifteen-year-olds scored about average in science among countries that took part in testing by the OECD in 2009. The OECD is the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Dave Weiss says he is concerned about such results, but hopeful for the future for American students learning science. Fred Tenkye thinks volunteers like Dave Weiss are helping students do that. "And if you can develop a passion for science, then eventually the grades and the test scores, then that will follow and increase, too." he said.

● Scholarships & Grants
Because Harvard is committed to affordability, our scholarships are designed to cover 100% of your financial need. Here is our process:
— Establish your parent contribution;
— Factor in student employment and outside awards;
— Cover the remaining needs by scholarship funds which never need to be repaid.
● Outside Awards
Like many of our students, you may receive funds from sources outside Harvard, such as secondary schools, your parental employers, etc. Since the intention of these awards is that they be used for educational purposes, you must report them to Harvard and apply them to your college expenses. We will consider your outside awards as a part of your overall financial aid funding.
● Student Employment
If you receive financial aid from Harvard, you will likely be expected to contribute to your education through employment. Your expected term-time work expectation is often around 10 to 12 hours per week. All wages earned are paid directly to you and can be used to help pay for your out-of-pocket personal expenses.
● Loans
You are not expected to take out loans, since our aid packages are designed to cover your financial need without additional borrowing. However, you may choose to pursue loans to help cover your student or family contribution. If you are interested in a loan, we will help you find one that works for you.

El Dorado
El Dorado is a story that began in 1537 when Spanish explorers found the Muisca people in the mountains of what is now Colombia. They heard the story of a man who covered himself with gold and dived into a lake. Then people began to talk of El Dorado—“the golden man”. Soon people started to think of El Dorado as a place, too— a city of gold and amazing riches. Nowadays, the name “El Dorado” is still used to mean “a place where you can get rich quickly”.
Atlantis
There was once an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It was the mythical island of Atlantis. The people of the island were very rich, thanks to the natural resources on their island. For hundreds of years, they lived simple lives. But slowly they began to change. They started to want power. So the gods decided to destroy Atlantis. Suddenly, the island and its people were swallowed(淹没) by the sea and were never seen, again.
Shambhala
In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Shambhala is a mystical country that is hidden somewhere behind the Himalayas. Shambhala is a word from an old language that means “place of peace” or “place of happiness”. It is said that there is no war in Shambhala, and in the future, when the world is full of war, a huge army will come out of Shambhala, destroy the world’s bad rulers, and start a new Golden Age. Some people say this will happen in 2424.
