Society looks down on people who collect the wastes of others, but what they don’t realize is that they could get more money in one day than what they get in one week working at their daily job from selling other people’s unwanted goods.

I am no “make-money-quick guru” but I have made a couple thousand dollars from selling what others throw out to the garbage. As the saying goes: “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

You don’t have to start a business. You could simply sell second-hand things people give away and profit from it. In my high school days, I had my first experience selling an old pre-loved Logitech keyboard to a buyer on Gumtree.com.au for $50. I remember how exciting it was for me to make money from something I no longer needed. I technically made a $50 profit in less than an hour.

How to make $1,000 with $0 in a day?

Go on platforms such as Facebook market or Gumtree and find things people are giving away for free in your local area, then sell them. I found an abundance of household items like cupboards, shelves, mirror cabinet, and chairs that sell very well. Don’t worry what people think of you, remember that you could get a few hundred for those.

Reinvest your money and buy something with a higher value that someone might be happy to get rid of, and sell that for a profit of $600, etc. Your action is not just about making money, but also seeing it as using the earth’s resources efficiently and not wasting them in the trash.

If there is one thing I learned from this practice, it is that: there is always someone out there who considers one man’s trash as treasure, no matter what the item is.

1. What may a “make-money-quick guru” do in paragraph 2?
A.A person who works in a company.
B.A person who throws unwanted things.
C.A person who makes money by selling second-hand things.
D.A person who teaches people how to make great profit.
2. How did the writer start his business?
A.By buying valuable things.B.By collecting others’ trash.
C.By selling his old things.D.By giving away useless things.
3. Why did the writer suggest others buy more valuable things?
A.To collect them for later use.
B.To sell them and get a higher profit.
C.To learn from the practice.
D.To get rid of the unwanted things.
4. Which of the following could be the best title for the text?
A.Sell Unwanted Things
B.Make Money in a New Business
C.One Person’s Trash, Another Person’s Cash
D.Live an Environmentally Friendly Life

Roborock Q5+

Roborock’s midrange model overcomes most of the limitations of robot vacuums. It’s easy to clean, maps rooms flawlessly, and goes far on a charge. It doesn’t sense when its bin is full but can follow voice commands.

Price:$500. roborock.com

iLifeV3s Pro Robot

A budget alternative, this machine “outperformed much more expensive vacuums.” You control it with a remote, not an app. But it’s thorough, avoids obstacles, and has no brushes that would require regular cleaning to remove fur and hair.

Price: $165, iliferobot.com

Source: Better Homes &Gardens

Eufy RoboVac 11S

This budget option is “surprisingly thorough.” It cleans more randomly because it doesn’t map your space and it doesn’t empty its own bin. But it’s quieter than its smart rivals and “a great value for light everyday maintenance.”

Price: $140. eufy.com

Source: Wall Street Journal

iRobot Roomba S9+

Roomba’s top-end model can’t match the cleaning power of a traditional vacuum, but it has few robotic rivals on that score. Another plus: The bin is automatically emptied into a disposable bag in the docking station.

Price: $799, irobot.com

Source: Consumer Reports

Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Though this pricey vacuum delivers “below average” cleaning performance, it’s good-looking, gentle on furniture, and is “packed full of features.” It can even double as a patrolling security camera that will live-stream to your phone.

Price: $1,300, samsung.com

【推荐3】Early excitement about the next generation of the iPhone is building months ahead of an expected autumn debut(问世). Analysts expect Apple to release three iPhones this year, but the one getting the most attention is a rumored super-premium model to celebrate the iPhone's tenth anniversary. And, for that phone, Apple is expected to change the type of screen the iPhone uses.

Here's a quick look at what you need to know about what it means if Apple switches from its current liquid crystal display (LCD) screens to a type of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen called AMOLED.

The essential difference between an LCD screen and an AMOLED one is the presence of a backlight. Thanks to that difference, AMOLED screens can be very thin, which means you can make thinner products. They also provide more vivid colors, which is a reason that television makers have been pushing OLED in its various forms for their big screens. AMOLED screens, in particular, boast(夸口) even greater control over each individual pixel (像素)— which means better contrast for the viewer. These screens can also improve battery life. Because there's no backlight, AMOLED screens can be more energy-efficient when the user is viewing darker subjects, allowing the phone to shut off pixels and stop drawing power.

So why hasn't Apple switched to AMOLED yet? After all, Apple competitors such as Samsung and LG already have these screens on their smartphones.

AMOLED screens are not cheap to produce. It's also not that easy to make the complex AMOLED screens, which could explain why most Apple fans expect that only the highest-end phone will have the new screen.

And then there's the cost. The switch to AMOLED has also been cited as a reason that the price of the high-end iPhone may jump above the $1,000 mark. Beauty, even in a mass-produced world, does not come cheap.

Still, the expense may be worth it, especially as people shoot more photos and videos.

1. According to the passage, when will the iPhone’s tenth anniversary most probably be held?
A.In June.
B.In March.
C.In November.
D.In January.
2. According to most Apple fans, AMOLED screens will only be used on ________ this year.
A.the cheapest iPhones
B.the most massive iPhones
C.the highest iPhones
D.the most expensive iPhones
3. What does the underlined sentence indicate?
A.It is very expensive to become beautiful.
B.Everything has a price.
C.The more you pay, the more beautiful you will become.
D.Practice more, and you will become better.
4. What’s the author’s attitude towards the expected iPhone?
A.Negative.
B.Critical.
C.Positive.
D.Uninterested.
